  • Drones require altitude holding in order to achieve flight objectives. The altitude holding of the drone is to repeat the operation of raising or lowering the drone according to the altitude information being measured in real-time. When the drones are maintained altitude, the drone's altitude will continue to change due to external factors such as imbalance in thrust due to difference in motor speed or wind. Therefore, in order to maintain the altitude of drone, we have to exactly measure the continuously changing altitude of the drone. Generally, the acceleration sensor is used for measuring the height of the drones. In this method, there is a problem that the measured value due to the integration error accumulates, and the drone's vibration is recognized by the altitude change. To solve the difficulty of the altitude measurement, commercial drones and existing studies are used for altitude measurement together with acceleration sensors by adding other sensors. However, most of the additional sensors have a limitation on the measurement distance and when the sensors are used together, the calculation processing of the sensor values increases and the altitude measurement speed is delayed. Therefore, it is necessary to accurately measure the altitude of the drone without considering additional sensors or devices. In this paper, we propose a measurement algorithm that improves general altitude measurement method using acceleration sensor and show that accuracy of altitude holding and altitude measurement is improved as a result of applying this algorithm.

  • A collaborative system supports collaboration among participants by providing functions such as group composition and management of data shared for collaboration. In recent years, research on collaborative services based on the blockchain technology has been done to guarantee the reliability of collaboration processes and outcomes. The diversity of the application domains in which collaborations are performed and the various characteristics of the participants in the collaboration group naturally leads to various forms of collaborative processes. In order for these processes to produce the desired outcome of the collaborative efforts, it is desirable to specify the appropriate collaborative process in advance, so that the participants can understand and agree on the process, carrying out the collaboration. In this paper, we propose a method to control flexible collaborative processes according to workflow specifications in the Ethereum-based collaborative service environment. The specification of the workflow for the designated task is stored in the Ethereum smart contract and the process of performing the task is controlled according to the stored workflow specification. For this, we introduce JSFlow which is a simple workflow specification method using JSON and an Ethereum library to utilize it.

  • The death rate of industrial accidents per 10,000 people in Korea is two to three times higher than that of major countries. Falling accidents at the construction site happened to have caused the most deaths. Analysis of existing research and measures by national institutions showed that the industrial accident management concentrated on falling accidents was insufficient and the seasonal safety management measures were not enough. There is thus the need for research that provides detailed and enough information on falling accidents. This study, therefore, aims to overcome the limitations of existing research and safety management accident response using a methodology that provides the necessary information for the prevention of fall accidents by deriving seasonal crash characteristics of the construction site. In order to provide enough information, 387 cases of seasonal construction site falling were collected, which describes the causal relationship of accidents. Text mining using principal component analysis and cluster analysis was carried out. The analysis showed that: In the spring, snowfall and unreasonable operation of equipment including lifts were the major cause. In summer, most accidents were caused by form, insufficient safety inspection, and installation work. In autumn, weather factors such as wind and typhoon were the cause. In winter, material transportation, exterior wall work, and ignore safety precautions were the cause of the crash.

  • There is a growing interest this paper for ocean sensing where autonomous vehicles can play an essential role in assisting engineers, researchers, and scientists with environmental monitoring and collecting oceanographic data. This study was conducted to develop a rigid sail for the autonomous sailing drone. Our study aims to numerically analyze the aerodynamic characteristics of curvy twin sail and compare it with wing sail. Because racing regulations limit the sail shape, only the two-dimensional geometry (2D) was open for an optimization. Therefore, the first objective was to identify the aerodynamic performance of such curvy twin sails. The secondary objective was to estimate the effect of the sail's spacing and shapes. A viscous Navier-Stokes flow solver was used for the numerical aerodynamic analysis. The 2D aerodynamic investigation is a preliminary evaluation. The results indicated that the curvy twin sail designs have improved lift, drag, and driving force coefficient compared to the wing sails. The spacing between the port and starboard sails of curvy twin sail was an important parameter. The spacing is 0.035 L, 0.07 L, and 0.14 L shows the lift coefficient reduction because of dramatically stall effect, while flow separation is improved with spacing is 0.21 L, 0.28 L, and 0.35 L. Significantly, the spacing 0.28 L shows the maximum high pressure at the lower area and the small low pressure area at leading edges. Therefore, the highest lift was generated.

  • The operational modal analysis (OMA) technique, which extracts the modal parameters of a structural system using ambient vibrations, has been actively developed as a field of structural health monitoring of cable-supported bridges. In this paper, the short and long-term modal parameters of a cable-stayed bridge were evaluated using the acceleration data obtained from the two ambient vibration tests (AVTs) and three years of continuous measurements. A total of 27 vertical modes and 1 lateral mode in the range 0.1 ~ 2.5 Hz were extracted from the high-resolution AVTs which were conducted in the 6th and 19th years after its completion. Existing OMA methods such as Peak-Picking (PP), Eigensystem Realization Algorithm with Data Correlation (ERADC), Frequency Domain Decomposition (FDD) and Time Domain Decomposition (TDD) were applied for modal parameters extraction, and it was confirmed that there was no significant difference between the applied methods. From the correlation analysis between long-term natural frequencies and environmental factors, it was confirmed that temperature change is the dominant factor influencing natural frequency fluctuations. It was revealed that the decreased natural frequencies of the bridge were not due to changes in structural performance and integrity, but to the environmental effects caused by the temperature difference between the two AVTs. In addition, when the TDD technique is applied, the accuracy of extracted mode shapes is improved by adding a proposed algorithm that normalizes the sequence so that the autocorrelations at zero lag equal 1.

  • In this study, the measurement results of the coastal deep soft ground buried in the upper part of the dredged clay were analyzed and compared with the current specification standards. Based on the results, a suitable proposal was suggested for the selection, installation, data arrangement, and analysis of each instrument used in the deep soft ground improvement construction. The pore water pressure meter has a range of 1.5 times or more of the expected measurement range, considering the field conditions of the soft ground. The groundwater level meter installed in the horizontal drainage layer checks the change in the groundwater level during the embanking as well as the performance of the catchment well and the horizontal drainage layer. Therefore, it is important to manage so that the groundwater level exists inside the horizontal drainage layer during embanking. It is enough to install the inclinometer in the gravel layer below the soft ground or weathered rock with an N value of 40 or more for the deep soft ground. It seems desirable to install a screw type for differential settlement meter. However, the screw type should not settle due to its own weight. Considering that it is a dredged landfill where subsidence occurs significantly, it is sufficient to manage the tolerance of leveling at about 10 mm (L is the one-way distance (km)).

  • Recently developed drones are inexpensive and very convenient to operate. As a result, the production and utilization of spatial information using drones are increasing. However, most drones acquire images with a low-cost global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and an inertial measurement unit (IMU). Accordingly, the accuracy of the initial location and rotation angle elements of the image is low. In addition, because these drones are small and light, they can be greatly affected by wind, making it difficult to maintain a certain overlap, which degrades the positioning accuracy. Therefore, in this study, images are taken at different times in order to analyze the positioning accuracy according to changes in certain exterior orientation parameters. To do this, image processing was performed with Pix4D Mapper and the accuracy of the results was analyzed. In order to analyze the variation of the accuracy according to the exterior orientation parameters in detail, the exterior orientation parameters of the first processing result were used as meta-data for the second processing. Subsequently, the amount of change in the exterior orientation parameters was analyzed by in a strip-by-strip manner. As a result, it was proved that the changes of the Omega and Phi values among the rotation elements were related to a decrease in the height accuracy, while changes in Kappa were linked to the horizontal accuracy.

  • Three-dimensional approaches for the diagnosis and analysis of the dentofacial area are becoming more popular in accordance with the development of cone-beam CT (CBCT). The purposes of this study were to evaluate the reliability of cephalometric measurements of lateral cephalograms generated from a CBCT image by making comparisons with the traditional digital lateral cephalogram, and to evaluate the possibility of the clinical application of CBCT generated cephalogram images. Methods: Twenty patients whose external auditory meatus could be identified in the CBCT image were selected, and both CBCT and digital cephalograms were taken. Differences between the measurements of both cephalograms were tested by paired t-test. Results: Among the 22 measurements used, only U1-FH, Mx6 to PTV, and maxillomandibular difference showed statistically significant differences between the CBCT generated cephalogram and the digital cephalogram. Conclusions: The results suggest that the CBCT generated cephalogram can be used for some cephalometric measurements not requiring porion, PTV, condylion as a landmark (SNA, SNB, U1 to SN, IMPA, interincisal angle, etc.).

  • Even after the improvement in 2019, UNCTAD's Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (LSCI), which evaluates the performance of the global container port market, has limited use. In particular, since the liner shipping connectivity index evaluates the performance based only on the distance of the relationship, the performance index combining the port attractiveness of calling would be more efficient. This study used the modified Huff model, the hub-authority algorithm and the eigenvector centrality of social network analysis, and correlation analysis for 2007, 2017, and 2019 data of Ocean-Commerce, Japan. The findings are as follows: Firstly, the port attractiveness of calling and the overall performance of the port did not always match. However, according to the analysis of the attractiveness of a port calling, Busan remained within the top 10. Still, the attractiveness among other Korean ports improved slowly from the low level during the study period. Secondly, Global container ports are generally specialized for long-term specialized inbound and outbound ports by the route and grow while maintaining professionalism throughout the entire period. The Korean ports continue to change roles from analysis period to period. Lastly, the volume of cargo by period and the extended port connectivity index (EPCI) presented in this study showed a correlation from 0.77 to 0.85. Even though the Atlantic data is excluded from the analysis and the ship's operable capacity is used instead of the port throughput volume, it shows a high correlation. The study result would help evaluate and analyze global ports. According to the study, Korean ports need a long-term strategy to improve performance while maintaining professionalism. In order to maintain and develop the port's desirable role, it is necessary to utilize cooperation and partnerships with the complimentary port and attract shipping companies' services calling to the complementary port. Although this study carried out a complex analysis using a lot of data and methodologies for an extended period, it is necessary to conduct a study covering ports around the world, a long-term panel analysis, and a scientific parameter estimation study of the attractiveness analysis.

  • Recent discussions about a minimum wage increase (MWI) and its influence on the economy have mainly focused on the quantitative aspects, such as labor costs and employment. However, concerning the qualitative aspects, an MWI could have positive effects by enhancing firm productivity and crowding out marginal firms from the market. These positive effects of an MWI can offset, to some extent, its potential negative effects - increasing labor costs and decreasing employment, among others. In this regard we empirically examine the impact of an MWI on firm productivity (total factor productivity). Using firm level panel data from the manufacturing industry in Korea, we calculate the influence rates of a minimum wage by sector and by firm size (number of workers), and analyze its effects on firm productivity. In particular, the production functions of the firms are estimated by taking into account endogeneity among the input factors, in order to resolve the drawbacks of existing studies - underestimating the capital factor coefficient and overestimating the labor factor coefficient. This study finds that the influences of an MWI on wages, employment, and productivity are substantially different across sectors and firm sizes. While an MWI has shown to have positive influences on productivity growth in the manufacturing industry as a whole, each sector demonstrates a different direction of effect, and the degree of productivity change also varies by sector. The impacts of an MWI on firm productivity are generally estimated to be more negative for smaller firms, but in some sectors the effects are found to be positive. In addition, the wage increases resulting from an MWI seem to cause a productivity enhancement across all sectors in the manufacturing industry. The policy implications of this study are as follows. Considering the empirical findings that an MWI causes an increase in productivity in many sectors of the manufacturing industry, it would be desirable to take into consideration not only the negative side effects but also the positive effects of an MWI when designing any future minimum wage policy. Moreover, in spite of there being a uniform minimum wage, this study finds that the diverse influence rates of a minimum wage across firms have different impacts on wages, employment, and productivity across sectors or firm size. This finding could be conducive to discussions about differentiation among minimum wage schemes by sector or firm size.
