  • This study summarizes improvement strategies for addressing the imbalance problem in observed default data that must be considered when constructing a default model and compares and analyzes the performance improvement effects using data resampling techniques and default threshold adjustments. Empirical analysis results indicate that as the level of imbalance resolution in the data increases, and as the default threshold of the model decreases, the recall of the model improves. Conversely, it was found that as the level of imbalance resolution in the data decreases, and as the default threshold of the model increases, the precision of the model improves. Additionally, focusing solely on either recall or precision when addressing the imbalance problem results in a phenomenon where the other performance evaluation metrics decrease significantly due to the trade-off relationship. This study differs from most previous research by focusing on the relationship between improvement strategies for the imbalance problem of default data and the enhancement of default model performance. Moreover, it is confirmed that to enhance the practical usability of the default model, different improvement strategies for the imbalance problem should be applied depending on the main purpose of the model, and there is a need to utilize the Fβ Score as a performance evaluation metric.

  • In areas where large-scale sediment transport occurs, it is important to apply appropriate countermeasure method because the phenomenon tends to accelerate by time duration. Among the various countermeasure methods applied so far, beach nourishment needs to be reviewed as an erosion prevention measure because the erosion pattern is mitigated and environmentally friendly depending on the particle size. In the case of beach nourishment. a detailed review is required to determine the size, range, etc., of an appropriate particle diameter. In this study, we investigated the characteristics of the related topographic change using the change in the particle size of nourishment materials, the application of partial area, and the condition under the coexistence of waves and wind as variables because those factors are hard to be analyzed and interpreted within results and limitation of that the existing numerical models are not able to calculate and result out so that it is required that phenomenon or efforts are reviewed at the same time through physical model experiments, field monitoring and etc. So we attempt to reproduce the tendency of beach erosion and deposition and predict possible phenomena in the future using machine learning techniques for phenomena that it is not able to be interpreted by numerical models. we used the hydraulic experiment results for the training data, and the accuracy of the prediction results according to the change in the training method was simultaneously analyzed. As a result of the study it was found that topographic changes using machine learning tended to be similar to those of previous studies in short-term predictions, but we also found differences in the formation of scour and sandbars.

  • The role of a GIS as a tool for a national information infrastructure can best be fulfilled once GIS standards are implemented. In this paper, we have identified what the contents of GIS standards in other countries are, and what should be the future direction for implementing a nation's GIS standards. Based on a detailed review on GIS standards in the USA, Australia, Japan and the United Kingdom, we derived the following: (1) A nations's GIS standards should include both geographic information content standards and geographic information service standards: (2) A nation's GIS standards should be a profile of ISO GIS standards: (3) Each GIS standards should be developed on the bassis of the Entity-Relationship Model using Unified Modeling Language: and (4) Experts in GIS should pay much more attention on studies on GIS service standardization. As for building the national GIS Standards for Korea, we recommend both GIS Content Standards and GIS Service Standards be simultaneously developed. GIS Content Standards include geographic feature content standard, feature classification standard, portrayal standard, rules for application standards, spatial reference model and terminology. GIS Service Standards include standards for data sharing such as metadata standard and transfer standard, quality standard, quality principle and portrayal standards.

  • Ocean currents play the most important role in causing and controlling global climate change. The water depth of the Yellow Sea is very shallow compared to the East Sea, and the circulation and currents of seawater are quite complicated owing to the influence of various wind fields, ocean currents, and river discharge with low-salinity seawater. The Yellow Sea Warm Current (YSWC) is one of the most representative currents of the Yellow Sea in winter and is closely related to the weather of the southwest coast of the Korean Peninsula, so it needs to be treated as important in secondary-school textbooks. Based on the 2015 revised national educational curriculum, secondary-school science and earth science textbooks were analyzed for content related to the YSWC. In addition, a questionnaire survey of secondary-school science teachers was conducted to investigate their perceptions of the temporal variability of ocean currents. Most teachers appeared to have the incorrect knowledge that the YSWC moves north all year round to the west coast of the Korean Peninsula and is strong in the summer like a general warm current. The YSWC does not have strong seasonal variability in current strength, unlike the North Korean Cold Current (NKCC), but does not exist all year round and appears only in winter. These errors in teachers' subject knowledge had a background similar to why they had a misconception that the NKCC was strong in winter. Therefore, errors in textbook contents on the YSWC were analyzed and presented. In addition, to develop students' and teachers' data literacy, class materials on the YSWC that can be used in inquiry activities were developed. A graphical user interface (GUI) program that can visualize the sea surface temperature of the Yellow Sea was introduced, and a program displaying the spatial distribution of water temperature and salinity was developed using World Ocean Atlas (WOA) 2018 oceanic in-situ measurements of water temperature and salinity data and ocean numerical model reanalysis field data. This data visualization materials using oceanic data is expected to improve teachers' misunderstandings and serve as an opportunity to cultivate both students and teachers' ocean and data literacy.

  • A Wind resource assessment and optimal micrositing of wind turbines were implemented for the development of an onshore wind farm of 30 MW capacity on Gadeok Island in Busan, Republic of Korea. The wind data measured by the automatic weather system (AWS) that was installed and operated in the candidate area were used, and a reliability investigation was conducted through a data quality check. The AWS data were measured for one year, and were corrected for the long term of 30 years by using the modern era retrospective analysis for research and application (MERRA) reanalysis data and a measure- correlate-predict (MCP) technique; the corrected data were used for the optimal micrositing of the wind turbines. The micrositing of the 3 MW wind turbines was conducted under 25 conditions, then the best-optimized layout was analyzed with a various wake model. When the optimization was complete, the estimated park efficiency and capacity factor were from 97.6 to 98.7 and from 37.9 to 38.3, respectively. Furthermore, the annual energy production (AEP), including wake losses, was estimated to be from 99,598.4 MWh to 100,732.9 MWh, and the area was confirmed as a highly economical location for development of a wind farm.

  • A ship in a sea cruises with rolling, pitching, heaving etc because of environmental causes such as wind and wave. Those motions make crews or passengers feel inconvenience and they feel acceleration changes. Therefore, if lateral and vertical accelerations can be measured at a specific position in a ship, it can be known how discomfortable crews or passengers are. The motion monitoring system developed in this paper consists of measuring and communicating part including five accelerometers and gyro and a main computer which acquires measuring data and calculates motion indices. MSI(Motion Sickness Incidence) and MII(Motion Induced Interrupt) are calculated in real time using measured acceleration and angular rate. The validity of the developed system was confirmed through the real ship test of Hannara which is the school ship of Korea Maritime University.

  • The paper investigates the determinants of female, maternal, and male employment in a comparable setting using an unbalanced panel data of 29 OECD countries from 2000-2013. Our empirical results show that early childhood childcare and education (ECEC) is positively associated with female employment. Furthermore, we find that ECEC does not hurt male employment. We also find that tax rates on the second earner are negatively associated with male employment as well as female employment. The estimated coefficients of ECEC, social expenditure, tax rates, and tertiary education attainment rates in maternal employment regressions are much larger in the absolute value than those in female employment regressions. Policy implications of our analysis are that an expansion of ECEC, a lower tax on secondary earner, and education are key to promote the total employment as well as female employment.

  • In this study, an assessment method that considers the effects of directional wind speeds on buildings or structures that are sensitive to wind is proposed. Also, the basic characteristics of directional wind speeds were assessed by means of local annual maximum wind speeds. From the method of assessment of the characteristics of directional wind speeds, their goodness-of-fit was verified by applying extreme value distribution to the data on annual maximum wind speeds from the Korea Meteorological Administration. To consider the characteristics of directional winds, an assessment method is suggested that divides the directional wind pattern of each directional wind speed into four groups. From the study results, all the data on directional wind speeds based on the Gumbel distribution were examined using data on annual maximum wind speeds from Seoul, Tongyung, and Incheon. Since the Gumbel model of all directional wind speeds has independent probability characteristics that govern the 4 directional wind pattern groups, the application ratio proposed was based on the assessment of these four groups. According to the goodness-of-fit of the data on the annual maximum wind speeds based on the Gumbel distribution, new application ratios were proposed that consider the directional wind speeds in Seoul, Tongyung, and Incheon.

  • The flight controller(FC) used in small-sized drone was developed as simple structure does not perform complex operations because it uses different MCU with large-sized drone. Also, the balance control of small-sized drone should be simpler than Kalman filter using complex filter and the method using Complementary filter has relatively more operations. So, the method to realize the balance control on small-sized drone effectively using two-track control operating as proper method for above is suggested in this research. This method is a system maintaining effective balance with simple structure and less operations by operating adaptively for the unbalance of the drone with the acceleration sensor with the advantage which performing accurate correction by data processing for long term change and gyroscope sensor maintaining the balance of the drone by data processing for short term change. It is confirmed that stable operation was performed mostly based on the test result for repeatable test more than 100 times using two-track control and it maintained normal state operation more than 98% excluding the difficulty of maintaining normal operation when meets sudden and rapid wind yet.
