  • In conventional small signal stability analysis, system is assumed to be invariant and the state space equations are used to calculate the eigenvalues of state matrix. However, when a system contains switching elements such as FACTS devices, it becomes non-continuous system. In this case, a mathematically rigorous approach to system small signal stability analysis is by means of eigenvalue analysis of the system periodic transition matrix based on discrete system analysis method. In this research, RCF(Resistive Companion Form) method is used to analyse small signal stability of a non-continuous system including switching elements'. Applying the RCF method to the differential and integral equations of power system, generator, controllers and FACTS devices including switching elements should be modeled in the form of state transition matrix. From this state transition matrix eigenvalues which are mapped to unit circle can be calculated.

  • Modern power grids are becoming more and more stressed with the load demands increasing continually. Therefore large stressed power systems exhibit complicated dynamic behavior when subjected to small disturbance. Especially, it is needed to analyze special conditions which make small signal stability structure varied according to operating conditions. This paper shows that the relation between small signal stability structure varied according to operating conditions. This paper shows that the relation between small signal stability and operating conditions can be identified well using node-focus point and 1:1 resonance point. Also, the weak point which limits operating range is found by the analysis of resonance condition, and it is shown that reactive power compensation may solve the problem in the weak points. The proposed method is applied to test systems, and the results illustrate its capabilities.

  • This paper presents the framework for analysis of small-signal stability. In this framework the equilibrium points of system DAE model are traced using continuation method and instability points are determined on the solution path. Especially Implicit shift QR-modified Arnoldi method is utilized to calculated the rightmost eigenvalues. Small-signal stability is becoming one of the major factors that affect the ATC in the environment of deregulation. Stability limited ATC is easily evaluated in this stability analysis process.

  • It is the most important in small signal stability analysis of large scale Power systems to compute only the dominant eigenvalues selectively with numerical stability and efficiency. In this Paper evoluted linear analysis program, transformed state matrix using Inverse transformation with complex shift and then Hessenberg process and iterative scheme are used to accelerate Hessenberg process, can calculate dominant eigenvalues. In this Paper, The accuracy of this Program has been validated against 4-machines 11-bus system and New England 10-machines 39-bus system. Also applied to KEPCO system - about 791-bus 250-machines 2500-branches, got 2568 order state matrix, and calculated two dominant modes. This analysis result equaled to result of EPRI's SSSP program to use commonly, and calculating time is faster.

  • This paper represents how to reduce the computer time in small signal stability analysis by selecting the dominant oscillation modes with frequency of 0.5 to 1.2 Hz using the clustering technique. Clustering technique links the buses which are expected to be similar with zero-impedance lines and the voltage variations of these buses are regarded to be identical. The computer time was reduced remarkably with this technique and the effect of clustering will be powerful in the analysis of large-scale power systems.

  • A new small signal stability analysis method for eigenvalue analysis is presented. The method is based on the computation of the transition matrix over a specified time interval that corresponds to one cycle operation of the system The method is applicable to any system with or without nonlinear elements. An applicable example of RCF method is presented and the eigenvalues are compared with those of the conventional state space method to show the exactness of the computed eigenvalues of the new method. Also, the variations of oscillation modes which were caused by the switching operation can be analyzed exactly using RCF method.

  • In power system operation, the stability of synchronous machine has been recognized one of the most important things. AESOPS program developed by EPRI in U.S.A. is a frequency domain analysis program in power system stability and it computes the electro-mechanical oscillation mode. This paper presents how to analyze the power system small signal stability problem efficiently by uusing the AESOPS program and analyze the various factors affecting the damping characteristics of these oscillations in KEPCO power system of 1986 with pumped-storage plant. To reduce the computing time and efforts, selecting the poorly-damped oscillation mode and clustering technique have been used. The characteristics of load, the amount of power flow on the transmission line and the gain of exciter have a significant effects on the damping of the system while the governing system has only a minor one. With the Power System Stabilizers, the stability of the power system has been improved.

  • In this paper, we propose a detection method of the leukocyte motions in a microvessel by using spatiotemporal image analysis. The leukocyte motions that adhere to blood vessel walls can be visualized to move along the blood vessel wall's contours in a sequence of images. In this proposal method, we use the constraint that the leukocytes move along the blood vessel wall's contours and detect the leukocyte motions by using the spatiotemporal image analysis method. The generated spatiotemporal image is processed by a special-purpose orientation-selective filter and then subsequent grouping processes are done. The subsequent grouping processes select and group the leukocyte trace segments among all the segments obtained by simple thresholding and skeletonizing operations. Experimental results show that the proposed method can stably detect the leukocyte motions even when multiple leukocyte traces intersect each other.
