Ground dynamic parameter such as shear elastic modulus and damping ratio is a very important variable in design of ground-structure with repeated load and dynamic load. Shear elastic modulus and damping ratio on small strain below linear limit strain is constant regardless of strain. Shear elastic modulus as the maximum shear elastic modulus and damping ratio as the minimum damping ratio were considered. As a lot of experiment related to the maximum shear elastic modulus, which is in dynamic deformation characteristics, have been conducted, many factors including voiding ratio, over consolidation ratio(OCR), confining pressure, geology time, PI, and the number of load cycle affect to dynamic soil characteristic. However, the research of ground dynamic characteristic improved with grout is absent such as underground continuous wall construction, deep mixing method, umbrella arch method. In order to investigate the dynamic soil characteristics improved with grout, in this study, resonant column tests were performed with changing water content(20%, 25%, 30%) and injection ratio of grout(5%, 10%, 15%), cure time(7th day, 28th day) As a result, shear elastic modulus and damping ratio, which are ground dynamic parameter, are affected by the injection ratio of milk grout, cure time and water content.
Recently, problems related to vibrations of decomposed granite soils have acquired increasing attention in Korea because those soils cover approximately one third of the country. Both resonant column and cyclic triaxial test were performed to investigate deformation characteristics of unsaturated and cement-mixed decomposed granite soils in Suwon region. The important soil parameters in this respect are the shear moduli, dynamic moduli of elasticity and damping ratios. The dynamic parameters are influenced by variables such as strain amplitude, ratio of loading cycles, and degree of saturations, etc. Test results and data have shown that the optimum degree of saturation to the maximum shear modulus due to a capillary menisci effect was about 17~18 % at low strain amplitude and 10~15 % at intermediate strain amplitude. This paper suggests the range of threshold strain and mean shear modulus of decomposed granite soils in Suwon region. It also proposed the empirical relationship between the dynamic parameters for cement-mixed and non-mixed decomposed granite soils.

This study investigates acoustic emission (AE) and micro-deformation characteristics of circular openings through biaxial compression experiments. The experimental results showed a significant increase in the frequency, count, energy, and amplitude of AE signals immediately before damage occurred in the circular opening. The differences in frequency and count between before and after damage initiation were significantly pronounced, indicating suitable factors for identifying damage occurrence in circular openings. The results for digital image correlation (DIC) technique revealed that micro-deformation was concentrated around the openings, as evidenced by the spatial distribution of strain. In addition, spalling was observed at the end of the experiments. The AE and micro-deformation characteristics presented in this study are expected to serve as fundamental data for evaluating the stability of underground openings and boreholes for deep subsurface projects.

This is the study on fracture life under the interaction of creep and fatigue. It is difficult to explain the interaction of the creep and fatigue with indication of frequency but the dependency of the time should be considered. The formulation of material varieties causing by interaction of creep and fatigue is required in the accumulative damage method. The strain range partition method requires some of modification corresponding to the changes in temperature and load. All of other method also comprehended with above mentioned problems. Generally, in this field, the variety of stress-strain and suitable parameter is required and connective study between the macro and micro results seems to be insufficient. The linear damage rule is acquiring the support generally but it requires modification in the hgigh temperature instruments. The variety of stress effecting on crack and variety of stress on the metallurgical side are considered to be problems in the future days.
The inherent characteristic of concrete tensile cracks, directional nonlocal crack damage, causes so-called rotating tensile crack damage and softening of compressive strength. In the present study, a plasticity model was developed to describe the behavior of reinforced concrete planar members In tension-compression. To describe the effect of directional nonlocal crack damage, the concept of microplane model was combined with the plasticity model. Unlike existing models, in the proposed model, softening of compressive strength as well as the tensile crack damage were defined by the directional nonlocal crack damage. Once a tensile cracking occurs, the microplanes of concrete are affected by the nonlocal crack damage. In the microplanes, microscopic tension and compression failure surfaces are calculated. By integrating the microscopic failure surfaces, the macroscopic failure surface is calculated. The proposed model was implemented to finite element analysis, and it was verified by comparisons with the results of existing shear panel tests.
To study the compressive stress, recovery force and permanent strain of foams for footwear midsole, polyurethane(PU), phylon(PH) and injection phylon(IP) foams were repetitively compressed with constant compressive stress. Maximum compressive stress of PU did not decrease with repetitive compression on the constant compressive stress, but that of IP largely decreased. Engineering strain of foams were formed by repetitively compressing the three types of foam. The engineering strain of PU was smaller than that of IP and PH. Compressive stress and recovery force of IP and PH at certain strain were decreased with repetitive compression, but that of PU was not noticeably changed.
Elastic waves provide an important information about the soil mass in the near-surface. Soil properties in relation to elastic wave parameters are clarified to facilitate the application of geophysical technique to soil characterization. As an example, experiments are performed to gain further insight into the behavior of unsaturated particulate materials using bender elements. The small strain stiffness is continuously measured on specimens subjected to drying, and changes in stiffness are related to changes in interparticle forces such as capillarity, bonding due to ion sharing, buttress effect due to fine migration, and cementation due to salt precipitation. The rate of menisci regeneration is studied after a perturbation as well. Finally, several phenomena associated with the evolution of capillary forces during drying are identified.

An electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) system for measuring tensile properties under micro-tensile testing has been developed. The system consists of an optical system and an image processing system. In the optical system, optical components for measurement of in-plane deformation are arranged on the path of He-Ne laser. In the image processing system, the window-based program for acquiring speckle pattern interferometric image was developed and deformation in a small specimen is continuously evaluated during the test. Using this system, tensile strain of copper foil was measured during tensile testing. Tensile specimen had the thickness and width of 22 and 500 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, respectively. Tensile properties, including the elastic modulus, yielding strength and tensile strength, of the copper were evaluated and also plastic exponent and coefficient in the Ramberg-Osgood relationship were evaluated from the stress-strain curve.

In MEMS devices, packaging induced stress or stress induced structure deformation become increasing concerns since it directly affects the performance of the device. In this paper, deformation behavior of MEMS gyroscope package subjected to temperature change is investigated using high-sensitivity moire interferometry. Using the real-time moire setup, fringe patterns are recorded and analyzed at several temperatures. Temperature dependent analyses of warpages and extensions/contractions of the package are presented. Linear elastic behavior is documented in the temperature region of room temperature to $125^{\circ}C$. Analysis of the package reveals that global bending occurs due to the mismatch of thermal expansion coefficient between the chip, the molding compound and the PCB. Detailed global and local deformations of the package by temperature change are investigated, concerning the variation of natural frequency of MEMS gyro chip.

Fiber optics sensors that have been mainly applied to aerospace areas are now finding applicability in other areas, such as transportation, including railways. Among the sensors, the fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors have led to a steep increase due to their properties of absolute measurement and multiplexing capability. Generally, the FBG sensors adhere to structures and sensing modules using adhesives such as an epoxy. However, the measurement errors that occurred when the FBG sensors were used in a long-term application, where they were exposed to environmental thermal load, required calibration. For this reason, the thermal curing of adhesives needs to be investigated to enhance the reliability of the FBG sensor system. This can be done at room temperature through cyclic thermal load tests using four types of specimens. From the test results, it is confirmed that residual compressive strain occurs to the FBG sensors due to an initial cyclic thermal load. In conclusion, signals of the FBG sensors need to be stabilized for applying them to a long-term SHM.
