This study examined current status and futurity of libraries based on the survey of librarians awareness in the era of the $4^{th}$ Industrial Revolution and sought to find effective response strategies for future changes. For this purpose, this study reviewed research issues against the $4^{th}$ Industrial Revolution based on preceding researches in our library area and other fields. The awareness survey was conducted of librarians of several types including national libraries and public libraries. The results are as follows: First, librarians were interested in the $4^{th}$ Industrial Revolution, but they thought that new technologies are poorly adopted in their libraries. Second, librarians were most frequently using Desktop PCs, mobile phones, RFID tags, and QR codes for library services. Third, librarians were required intelligent-information services because of their effectiveness, but their libraries did not provide them for users. Fourth, librarians expected that the $4^{th}$ Industrial Revolution brings positive influences to libraries' future. On the other hands, they also concerned about their job losses. Fifth, librarians agreed with necessity of new technologies of the $4^{th}$ Industrial Revolution and they especially wanted educations and training related with technologies. Also, technical supports for online services and simply repeated works are required.

The purpose of this study was to examine effects of writing future autobiography program using information activities in school library on improving high school students' ego-identity. This study was conducted 198 high school students in grade 2. Writing an autobiography using information activities in library was conducted 15 times in total, once a week for 50 minutes, and students had done information activities to get to know about themselves and their own lives and they wrote their future autobiography based on those activities. Then they made their own books. As a result of analyzing the change of students' ego-identity before and after writing the future autobiography through t-test, it turned out that there were some meaningful differences.

한국도서관협회는 2013년 10월 23일(수)부터 25일(금)까지 제주특별자치도 서귀포시 제주국제컨벤션센터에서 "도서관대회 그 반세기의 회고와 미래 전망 : 창조의 힘 도서관, 새 시대를 꿈꾸다"를 주제로 제50회 전국도서관대회를 개최하였다. 이번 대회는 도서관 관계자 3,000여명이 참가하였으며, 다양한 학술프로그램과 전시회, 포스터세션, 문화행사 등이 열렸다. 이에 11월호와 12월호 특집에서는 이번 대회의 결과를 정리하여 소개한다.

다가오는 미래는 지식 경쟁에서 살아 남는 국가, 사회, 개인만이 존재하는 지식사회라고 한다. 인류문화의 보고라는 도서관도 예외일 수 없다. 기존의 도서관 시스템으로는 새로운 경쟁사회, 즉 지식사회에서 제 역할을 찾을 수 없다. 따라서. 지식과 정보를 직접 이용자에게 제공하는 정보공유의 시스템으로 전환되어야 한다. 사서들의 경험에 의한 Know-how를 아웃풋하여 새로운 지식을 창조함으로써 업무의 효율성과 양질의 지식정보를 서비스 받을 수 있는 지식관리시스템을 구현해야 한다. 본 글에서는 현 도서관 시스템의 문제점을 파악하고 바람직한 지식관리스템의 새로운 모형을 구축한다.

본고는 일본의 도서관정보대학에서 발간하고 있는 도서관정보학연구보고 제 10권 1호에 게재된「도서관정보학의 탄생과 미래」를 번역한 것이다. 그 내용은 선진국의 도서관학교의 명칭과 미국, 캐나다의 도서관학교의 현황을 소개하고 있으며 또한 도서관정보학이 탄생하게된 역사적인 필연성과 사회적 배경등에 대하여 기술하고 있다.「Library and Information Science」를 우리나라에서는 문헌정보학이라고 말하고 있으나 일본에서는 도서관ㆍ정보학이라고 하는 경우가 일반적이다. <역자주>

The National Library of Korea, Sejong, which celebrates its 10th anniversary, has been performing the duties of a specialized library for policy information while also serving as a public library for Sejong citizens. However, there are concerns about whether it is desirable for the National Library of Korea, Sejong, to continue to provide both policy information services and public library services simultaneously. In order to establish the identity of the National Library of Korea, Sejong, and strengthen its core competencies and services, a prior investigation of the current status and stakeholder groups is necessary. This study diagnosed the current status of the National Library of Korea, Sejong, and conducted a SWOT analysis, and then surveyed and analyzed stakeholders (National Library of Korea, Sejong, employees and relevant policy agency employees) related to policy information services to identify the library's core role and identity, and perception of policy information services. Based on this, this study presented ways to improve the library's core competencies and future direction as a specialized library for policy information.
