  • As RFID technology has been developed rapidly, its technical potential has it be widely used in many industrial fields. Particularly, in the physical distribution industry, the introduction of RFID has enormously contributed to effectively monitoring locations and information of products in real-time. Also, a significant decline in tag prices and RFID related technical competitiveness enabled each tag to be managed much more minutely by attaching it to an item, not a pallet nor a container. However, if a very large volume of tag data are continuously flowed into a RFID middleware with limited hardware resources, its entire data processing time may become considerably longer. Therefore, specific technologies are in great demand to handle and further to reduce the load of the middleware. In this paper, we proposed a mobile agent-based software module to efficiently reduce the load of the middleware by pre-processing a lot of tag data while items are in transit. Simulation results show that using the proposed software module considerably enhances the speed of processing tag data than otherwise. This behavior increases the tag recognition rate in a certain time limit and improves reliability of RFID middlewares.

  • Recently, there is increasing the development requirement of middleware and interface for GPS(Global Positioning System), RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification), sensor networks. GPS supports a useful location based service. RFID supports products logistic and distribution services through the identification. A sensor network collects a context information, such as humidity, temperature and atmospheric pressure. This paper implements and verifies a integrated service middleware for supporting efficiently process of sensing data collected from RFID, GPS and sensor network. This middleware have the temporary store function, the redundancy exclusion function, certification function, the classification function and the database storage function. Additionary, this middleware connects with low-level adaptor using socket interface and supports the high-level application services using database connection. Therefore, user can develop easily various many ubiquitous application system using proposed middleware instead of each RFID middleware, GPS middleware and, middleware based on sensor network.

  • The aim of this paper is to propose a communication middleware which makes it possible to easily and efficiently develop the networking support for multi-user applications. Even though existing middleware and development tools provides lots of functionalities to realize distributed applications, they are purely low-level services passing the most development efforts to developers, or too specialized for a specific application. It brings a challenging issue of how the middleware supports general and efficient high-level mechanisms. To meet different networking and interaction requirements of multi-user applications, we propose various schemes to provide the communication architecture, the user membership management, the content transmission mechanism and the event management. Our middleware provides developers with application-level APIs and configuration files so that the different interaction requirements of a multi-user application can be easily handled in the developers' point of view.

  • In this paper, we describes a design of Wireless Mesh Network based middleware that applied into USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Networks). WMN based middleware is a technique which links data between widely distributed sensor devices and WMN for context-awareness. The use of WMN base middleware in this paper makes possible communication on insufficiently network constructed area by use of WMN. WMN based middleware also anaylze events comprehensively that originated from specific sensor device. Based on the result from analyzed data with predetermined value WMN based middleware will given an order to designated actuator devices. Middleware operate each function of sensor network management and application service separately.

  • This paper proposes an efficient caching mechanism appropriate for the integrated RFID middleware which can integrate wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and RFID (radio frequency identification) systems. The operating environment of the integrated RFID middleware is expected to face the situations of a significant amount of data reading from RFID readers, constant stream data input from large numbers of autonomous sensor nodes, and queries from various applications to history data sensed before and stored in distributed storages. Consequently, an efficient middleware layer equipping with caching mechanism is inevitably necessary for low latency of request-response while processing both data stream from sensor networks and history data from distributed database. For this purpose, the proposed caching mechanism includes two optimization methods to reduce the overhead of data processing in RFID middleware based on the classical cache implementation polices. One is data stream cache (DSC) and the other is history data cache (HDC), according to the structure of data request. We conduct a number of simulation experiments under different parameters and the results show that the proposed caching mechanism contributes considerably to fast request-response times.

  • The most critical element in the real-time operation of RFID application programs that are suitable for the mobile environment is the RFID middleware, made exclusively for mobile handsets, which processes collected data on a real-time basis and sends only the useful information to the application client. In this paper, we intend to design and implement a mobile RFID middleware system that supports the mobile handset environment for real-time based processing of the necessary data in the mobile environment. The proposed mobile RFID middleware system includes a mobile reader interface that collects the tag data, a mobile filtering engine that processes the tag data into more meaningful data that is sent to the application interface, and finally the mobile application interface that supports the m-SOAP application access protocol for interfacing with existing mobile applications. The filtering speed of the newly-developed middleware engine was found to be suitable for the characteristics of mobile handsets.

  • In this paper, we propose a communication middleware for development of HACCP(Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) automation system, which is composed of lightweight devices and a server, to support effective HACCP data management. To provide the proper HACCP data to lightweight devices, we design the communication message protocol based on HACCP management regulation model. Moreover, we develop the communication middleware that performs various functions, such as processing of communication protocols for HACCP data, analyzing of messages between devices and a server, and providing database managements tools. In addition, it takes a role to guarantee sharing consistent data among the devices and server, through the active updates for information on devices. Actually, the proposed communication middleware can be a part of critical system to develop a HACCP automation system with lightweight devices, because it implements the HACCP communication protocols making lightweight devices execute every HACCP task.

  • Since there are a lot of researches regarding RFID nowadays, the idea of RFID Middleware has great popular appeal to improve the efficiency of most use the data from RFID Readers. Even though, there are many RFID Middleware products and solutions in the developing processing, there are unsatisfied researches to manage RFID equipments effectively. In this paper, highly recommends a solution to support various RFID Readers from ALE-complient RFID Middleware in an efficient path of constructing Middleware Connection Information and data protocol form various RFID Readers as an ontology metadata. Therefore, not only reuses of RFID Reader Ontology, but also, by adding the ontology regarding additional RFID Reader and protocol data as a Middleware in a near future, it is able to extend to be treated easily.
