  • As a previous study to investigate recognition gap of creativity between Korea and America, this study has examined Korean university students' implicit creativity toward Korea and America. The research method using in this study was as follows: The subject were university students in Korea, and they were asked to answer multiply for open-ended questions. For the analysis of the answers, a frequency analysis was used. The results were as follows: 1) It showed that Korean university students considered creativity trait as cognitive trait, personality, cultural trait, research and development areas and arts areas. This result means that Korean university students tend to recognize creativity similarly to the ways of established theories of creativity. 2) For the case of Korea, environmental trait like sociocultural background had great importance for all cases of creativity trait and non-creativity trait. 3) American creativity was recognized focused on individual tendency, on the while, community spirit was considered as creativity trait in Korean creativity. 4) It is considered that American culture had better condition for displaying creativity than Korean culture. 5) Traditional culture of Korea was recognized as creativity trait in terms of originality and superiority, and the possibility of modernistic use of Korean culture. 6) Creative people were ranked by artists, executives, rulers and scientists who were well-known to Korean university students. 7) In the comparison of creativity trait between the two countries revealed the traits of creative people, American creativity was reflected more than Korean creativity, This result seems that those people were favored by Korean university students who were familiar with American culture. In conclusion, this study has found another possibility of creativity of the East among cross-cultural creativity studies. Moreover, this study has suggested that traditional culture and tradition renewal, and values of the East are superior cultural resources which are not exist in the West, and those are expected to play a role in developing creativity.

  • As creativity is a crucial attribute for companies' survival and innovative success, many firms encourage and implement ways to promote employee creativity. Previous studies in the dual pathway to creativity model have shown that creativity can be enhanced when either the cognitive flexibility or cognitive persistence path is triggered. Although individuals have different personal traits, prior research has rarely investigated whether one pathway is more effective for a certain personality in promoting creativity than the other. Using attachment theory, we examined the influence of attachment style on the degree of the impact of each path on creativity. Specifically, we hypothesized that securely attached people would show higher creativity only when they use the cognitive flexibility path. Data from the US support our hypothesis. Our research highlights that the link between cognitive flexibility and creativity is salient when securely attached people use the cognitive flexibility path because of the strong fit between secure attachment and flexible thinking.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of the summer enrichment programs on Korean gifted students' science learning and creativity development. This program is organized by Purdue University Gilled Education Resource Institute (GERI) in U.S.A. Researchers conducted semi-structured interview with 6 Korean students and observed 12 Korean students and GERI teachers for teacher-student interaction and teaching strategies during science-related classes. From the results, GERI program developed from Purdue 3 stage enrichment model that emphasizes creative teaching strategies, group discussions, and individual research were effective to foster creative thinking of Korean gilled students. Despite their language barriers, Korean gilled students found GERI program experience fun, creative, easy, relaxing, and thereby satisfying for their psychological and academic needs. They expected the level of stimulation in GERI program to be higher and the class to be organized more systematically; however, they reported that the broad range of topics and diverse content of GERI classes helped them develop creativity more than Korean classes. These findings will make contribution to the improvement of the quality of gifted education curriculum and programming in Korea.
