The Limiting Drift and Energy Dissipation Ratio for Shear Walls Based on Structural Testing (전단벽의 최소 층변위 및 에너지 소산성능)

  • Recently, new experimental criteria for reinforced concrete frame structures in high seismic regions have been reported in United States. The objective of the criteria is to get more reliable test data which are valid to compare with other test data done by different researchers. The criteria precribe test method of specimens, analysis method of test data, and limiting values needed to specimens like drift angle, energey dissipation ratio, stiffness, and strength. These criteria might be usefel to get objective conclusion. Shear wall structures, which belong to one of earthquake resisting systems, also need this kind of criteria. But, the general response of shear wall structures is a little bit different from that of frame structures since shear wall restrains the horizontal displacement caused by horizontal force and increases the stiffness and strength. The objective of this paper is to propose a criterion for limiting drift and energy dissipation ratio of shear walls based on structural testing. These are the most important values for presenting the capacity of shear walls. Limiting drift and energy dissipation ratios were examined for tests on shear walls having ductile type failures. Test data were analyzed and compared to the results for a suggested acceptance criteria that involve a limiting drift that is a function of aspect ratio and a limiting energy dissipation ratio that is a function of displacement ductility and damping.

Solubility Change of Gasoline Components Under Evaporation (휘발에 의한 가솔린 성분의 조성 및 용해도 변화특성)

  • Batch experiments were conducted to study the dissolution behavior of gasoline components. First, the dissolution kinetics of gasoline components and the applicability of Raoult's law in predicting their solubilities were investigated. In addition, the effects of compositional change of gasoline due to evaporization on the solubilities of individual components and TPH were determined. The kinetics of gasoline-water man transfer was found to be very similar for most components except for MTBE, which is a major additive for commercial gasoline. At equilibrium, the gasoline-water partitioning coefficients of individual components showed a log-linear relationship with their pure solubilities, though the slope was a little less than that predicted by Raoult's law. The concentrations of the individual components in the gasolines concentrated by volatilization could be characterized by the initial increase followed by substantial decrease. Almost the same behavior was observed for their solubilities. The total solubility (TPH) of gasoline decreased rapidly with the initial volume reduction and gradually decreased afterwards. The solubilities of BTEX, the major regulatory compounds, decreased even faster than the TPH solubilities. It was concluded that the compositional change of gasoline by volatilization may greatly affect their leaching potential and the toxicity of the contacting groundwater. The toxicity reduction efficiency by evaporating gasoline could be much more than the mass removal efficiency.

Numerical Analysis of Load Reduction for Underground Arch Structures with Soft Zone Using Expanded PolyStyrene Geofoam (EPS Geofoam을 이용한 Soft Zone 적용방법에 따른 지중아치구조물의 하중저감에 관한 해석 연구)

  • As the demand for underground space increases, many researchers have been studying the load reduction method using high compressible materials to solve for the stability problem of the overhead load and for the increase of the earth pressure which decreases the function of the underground structure. This paper determines the optimum soft zone and the effect of the using EPS Geofoam as a load reduction material to arch structures. A finite element analysis program, ABAQUS, is used to analyze the soil-structure interaction and the behavior of buried arch structures considering different four EPS Geofoam forms to confirm the most conservative shape. The optimum cross-sectional shape was determined by comparing the results of earth pressure reduction rate in accordance with the change of span-rise ratio and span length of the arch structure. It was confirmed that the earth pressure generated in the arch structure using the optimal soft zone selected by the numerical analysis was reduced by an average of 78%. In this study, the effect of EPS Geofoam on soil pressure reduction and its applicability to underground arch structures will provide an economical and conservative way to design underground structures and will help to increase the usability of deep underground space.

An Experimental Study on the dynamic behavior of 4-Span Cable-Stayed Bridge with ${\pi}$-Type Girder (${\pi}$형 거더를 가진 4경간 사장교의 동적거동에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Generally, a ${\pi}$-type girder composed of two I-type girders is known to have a significant disadvantage in wind resistance design because of aerodynamic instability. A representative bridge for this girder was Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Since Tacoma Narrows Bridge had very low stiffness of the bridge structure and its cross-section shape had aerodynamic instability, the bridge collapsed after severe torsion and vibration events in 19m/s wind speed. Aerodynamic vibration can be avoided by enhancing structural stiffness and damping factor and conducting a study of cross-section shapes. This study shows the angle of attack for the four-span cable stayed bridge having ${\pi}$-type cross-section and describes the aerodynamic characteristics of the changed cross-section with aerodynamic vibration damping additions, by carrying out two-dimension vibration tests. As a result of uniform flow and turbulent flow, the study shows that because the basic ${\pi}$-type cross-section alone can have efficient wind resistant stability, there is no need to have additional aerodynamic damping equipment. Since this four 230m-main-span bridge has a large frequency and also has a big stiffness compared to other bridges containing a similar cross-section, it has aerodynamic stability under the design wind speed.

신문지 재활용 공정의 일차 점착성 이물질 실시간 정략을 위한 새로운 방법

  • 본 연구는 신문지 고지의 점착성 이물질 중 Primary Stickies의 정 량에 관한 것으로 서, 실제 신문지료를 화상분석하여 실시간으로 매크로크기의 점착성 이물질올 측정할 때 효율적인 측정조건을 탐색하여 제지공정의 l 현장에서 일차 점착성 이물질을 정량 하는 새로운 측정기의 측정 기준을 제시하고자 하였다. 이물질이란 제지공정에 의도적으로 첨가되지 않은 불질의 총칭으로 dirt 및 각종 점착 성 이물질 즉, stickies를 들 수 있다. 이 가운데 스틱키{stickies}란 부드럽고, 점착성을 나타내는 이물질의 총청으로 주로 점착제와 확스에 의해 형성된다. 스틱키는 고지 재활 용의 효율성을 가장 크게 저해하는 이물질로 와이어, 펠트 및 기타 공정요소에 부착되 어 초지 시 지절을 발생시킴으로써 생산성을 저하시킬 뿐 아니라, 외관상 상품가치와 인쇄적성올 저하시키며, 최종 제품의 강도적 물성 및 가공적성에도 영향을 미친다. 특 히 국내에서는 원가절감을 위해 고지의 재활용율올 증대시키고자 전력을 다하고 있으 며 환경보호 및 용수 절감올 위해 공정수를 절감하고 궁극적으로는 무방류화를 목표로 하고 있어 토지 계 내의 점착성 이물질의 투입과 농축 현상이 심각하게 진행되고 있는 실정이다. 초지공정에서 발생하는 스틱키 즉 점착성 이물질은 미세한 스크린의 슬롯 폭인 0.15 - -0.3mm 이상의 크기를 가져 스크린에 의해 분리될 수 있는 매크로 스틱키{macro s stickies}와 이보다 작은 마이크로 스틱키(micro stickies)로 크게 분류된다. 즉 매크로 스틱키는 스크린에 의해 분리될 수 있으나 마이크로 스틱키는 스크린을 통하여 기계적 으로 분리할 수 없다는 문제점을 지니고 있다. 스틱키는 또 거동 특성에 따라 primary s stickies와 secondary stickies로 구분할 수 있다. primary stickies는 펄핑과정에서 점착 성 이물질이 파괴됨에 따라 나타나지만, secondary stickies는 지류 제지공정의 백수에 용해 되거나 분산된 상태인 1때1 이하의 콜로이 드로 폰재 한다. 이 러 한 secondary stickies 는 pH, 온도의 변화나 각종의 첨가제에 의해 웅집이나 홉착 등을 발생할 수 있는 잠재 적 문제점 등을 가지고 있다. 예를 들어 양성 고분자의 첨가는 펄프 섬유를 웅집시킬 뿐 아니라 지료에 함유된 secondary dtickies의 안정성을 저하시켜 응집, 침적시키는 작용을 한다. 따라서 분리가 어렵고, 제지공정에서 문제를 일으키기 쉬운 2차 스퇴키를 적절히 제어하기 위한 기술 개발은 용수절감 뿐 아니라, 초지공정의 침적물 절감을 통 한 공정개선에도 매우 중요한 요소기술이라 할 수 있다.

Simulation of Mixing Behavior for Dredging Plume using Puff Model (퍼프모형을 이용한 준설플륨의 혼합거동 모의)

  • The puff models have been developed to simulate the advection-diffusion processes of dredging suspended solids, either alone or in combination with Eulerian models. Computational efficiency and accuracy are of prime importance in designing these hybrid approaches to simulate a pollutant discharge, and we characterize two relatively simple Lagrangian techniques in this regard: forward Gaussian puff tracking (FGPT), and backward Gaussian puff tracking (BGPT). FGPT and BGPT offer dramatic savings in computational expense, but their applicability is limited by accuracy concerns in the presence of spatially variable flow or diffusivity fields or complex no-flux or open boundary conditions. For long simulations, particle and/or puff methods can transition to an Eulerian model if appropriate, since the relative computational expense of Lagrangian methods increases with time for continuous sources. Although we focus on simple Lagrangian models that are not suitable to all environmental applications, many of the implementation and computational efficiency concerns outlined herein would also be relevant to using higher order particle and puff methods to extend the near field.

A Methodology of Seismic Damage Assessment Using Capacity Spectrum Method (능력 스펙트럼법을 이용한 건물 지진 손실 평가 방법)

  • This paper describes a new objective methodology of seismic building damage assessment which is called Advanced Component Method(ACM). ACM is a major attempt to replace the conventional loss estimation procedure, which is based on subjective measures and the opinions of experts, with one that objectively measures both earthquake intensity and the response ol buildings. First, response of typical buildings is obtained analytically by nonlinear seismic static analysis, push-over analyses. The spectral displacement Is used as a measure of earthquake intensity in order to use Capacity Spectrum Method and the damage functions for each building component, both structural and non-structural, are developed as a function of component deformation. Examples of components Include columns, beams, floors, partitions, glazing, etc. A repair/replacement cost model is developed that maps the physical damage to monetary damage for each component. Finally, building response, component damage functions, and cost model were combined probabilistically, using Wonte Carlo simulation techniques, to develop the final damage functions for each building type. Uncertainties in building response resulting from variability in material properties and load assumptions were incorporated in the Latin Hypercube sampling technique. The paper also presents and compares ACM and conventional building loss estimation based on historical damage data and reported loss data.

Evaluation of Flexural Performance of Eco-Friendly Inorganic Binding Material RC Beams Using Sodium Activator (나트륨계 알칼리 활성화제를 사용한 친환경 무기결합재 철근콘크리트 보의 휨성능 평가)

  • In this study, it was developed eco-friendly inorganic binding material concrete using ground granulated blast furnace slag and alkali activator (water glass, sodium hydroxides). Eight reinforced concrete beam using inoganic binding material concrete were constructed and tested under monotonic loading. The major variables were mixture ratio of alkali activator, type of admixture and admixture. Experimental programs were carried out to improve and evaluate the flexural performance of such test specimens, such as the load-displacement, the failure mode, the maximum load carrying capacity, and ductility capacity. All the specimens were modeled in scale-down size. The eco-friendly concrete using inorganic binding material encouraged alkali activation reaction was rapidly hardening speed and showed possibility as a high strength concrete. Also, the RC beams using new materials showed similar behavior and failed similarly with RC beam used portland cement. It is thought that eco-friendly inorganic binding material concrete can be used with construction material and product as a basic research to replace cement concrete. If there is application to structures in PC member as well as production of 2nd concrete product, it could be improved the productivity and reduction of construction duration etc.

A Study on the Heat Release Characteristics of Fire Load for Performance Based Design of Multiplexes: A Focus on the Heat Release Rate and Fire Spread Rate of Cinema Seats (복합영상관의 성능위주설계를 위한 가연물의 연소발열특성 연구: 객석의자의 열발생률 및 연소확산속도를 중심으로)

  • As performance-based design (PBD) has a direct impact on evacuation safety assessments, designing fire scenarios based on real fire tests is essential. To improve the reliability of the PBD for fire safety in multiplexes, information on fire behavior, such as heat release rate (HRR) and fire spread rate, are provided in this study by conducting a standard fabric flammability test. To this end, several chairs were arranged in a pattern that resembled a theater-style seating. The peak HRR and heating value per unit mass for each chair ranged from 415 kW to 988 kW and 15.2 MJ/kg to 23.8 MJ/kg, respectively. The heating values per unit mass of the new and old chairs were 23.6 MJ/kg and 16.7 MJ/kg, respectively. As the quantity of plastic and cushioning materials in the new chairs was more than that of the old ones, the new chairs were more vulnerable to fire hazards. Furthermore, when the chairs were arranged in a line, the fire spread rate was observed to be 0.39-0.42 m/min, regardless of the ignition location. Finally, a fire growth curve showing the peak HRR and fire spread rate was also demonstrated.

A numerical comparison study on the estimation of relaxed rock mass height around subsea tunnels with the existing suggested methods (해저터널의 이완하중고 산정을 위한 제안식들과의 수치해석적 비교 연구)

  • When constructing subsea underground structures, the influence of high water and seepage pressure acting on the structures can not be neglected. Thus hydro-mechanical coupled analysis should be performed to estimate the behavior of the structures precisely In practice, relaxed rock load is generally used for the design of tunnel concrete lining. A method based on the distribution of local safety factor around a tunnel was proposed for the estimation of a height of relaxed rock mass ($H_{relaxed}$). In this study, the validation of the suggested method is investigated in the framework of hydro-mechanical coupled analyses. It was suggested that inducing inflow by pumping through a drainage well gave more reliable results than inducing inflow with shotcrete hydraulic characteristics in case of rock condition of Class III. In this study, therefore, inducing inflow by pumping through a drainage well are adopted in estimating $H_{relaxed}$ due to a tunnel excavation with the rock condition of Class I, III, and V. Also the estimated $H_{relaxed}$ results are compared with those of the existing suggested methods. As the result of this study, it is confirmed that estimating $H_{relaxed}$ based on the distribution of local safety factor around a tunnel can be effectively used even for the case of hydro-mechanical coupled analysis. It is also found that inducing inflow pumping through a drainage well gives more precise and consistent Hrelaxed of a subsea structure.
