Analysis on Economic Ripple Effects of the Korean Water Industry (물 산업의 경제적 파급효과 분석)

  • Water is an essential element required for the survival of 6 billion human beings around the world, and it has limited mobility. The importance of water industry has grown considerably, as its forecasted market size is expected to increase from $336 billion in 2007 to $865 billion in 2025, respectively. In 2003, the domestic water market was estimated to be worth 11 trillion won. However, according to the estimates of this research, the result above was overestimated by 2 trillion won. The economic ripple effects of newly defined water industry based on the input-output data from 2000 to 2008 were trivial, as the price effects of water industry was considerably minor at only 0.12%. To successfully implement policies to enhance the water industry, the market price mechanism must operate and function properly. Nevertheless, the impact of water's market prices on the economy upon application is projected to be trivial.

  • The drybulk shipping market has high freight rate volatility in the chartering market and various and complex factors affecting the market. In the unstable economic situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the BDI plunged due to a decrease in trade volume, but turned from the end of 2020 and maintained a booming period until the end of 2022. The main reason for the market change is the decrease in the available fleet that can actually be operated for cargo transport due to port congestion by the COVID-19 pandemic, regardless of the fleet and trade volume volatility that have affected the drybulk shipping market in the past. A decrease in the actual usable fleet due to vessel waiting at port by congestion led to freight increase, and the freight increase in charting market led to an increase in second-hand ship and new-building ship price in long-term equilibrium relationship. In the past, the drybulk shipping market was determined by the volatility of fleet and trade volume. but, in the future, available fleet volume volatility by pandemics, environmental regulations and climate will be the important factors affecting BDI. To response to the IMO carbon emission reduction in 2023, it is expected that ship speed will be slowed down and more ships are expected to be needed to transport the same trade volume. This slowdown is expected to have an impact on drybulk shipping market, such as a increase in freight and second-hand ship and new-building ship price due to a decrease in available fleet volume.

Influence of Merchandise Composition on the Competitiveness for the Korean Open Air Market (재래시장의 상품구성이 재래시장 활성화에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the strategic implication of the Korean open air market by examining the factors affecting their competitiveness. I have undertaken empirical research that uses the methodology of a mixture regression modeling, as a way to ascertain the determinants of competitiveness for the Korean open air market. I construct a mixture regression model which uses the proportions of merchandise categories as explanatory variables and the number of visitors as a dependent variable. The analysis of results show that competitive and non-competitive markets have different proportions of merchandise categories. The finding shows that stock farm products and home appliances are major influencers on the number of visitors in neighborhood markets. The finding also presents that stock farm products and processed foods are major influencers on the number of visitors in small & medium-sized city markets.

  • 전 세계적으로 이용 가능한 수자원이 한정되어 있는데 반해 기후변화, 인구증가에 따른 물 부족 사태는 심각해져 가고 있다. 이에 따른 대체수자원의 개발이 지속적으로 요구되고 있으며, 하수재 이용과 더불어 가장 큰 성장세를 보이고 있는 해수담수화는 이미 국내외에서 주요 용수 공급원으로 이용되고 있다. 하지만, 현재 국내에선 해수담수화 플랜트 기술 연구에 비해 해외 시장에 대한 연구는 미흡하기 때문에, 국내 기업의 해외시장 진출 지원이 취약한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 Frost & Sullivan의 2004년 자료를 기초로 하여 남부유럽, 북아프리카, 중동, 페르시아만 연안 6개국, 사우디아라비아 지역 37개 국가를 대상으로 해수담수화 수익성 평가를 하였다. 조사 기간은 2000년부터 2010년까지며, 각 지역별 연 수익금 및 증가율을 조사하였다. 조사 결과 5개 지역 모두 2010년까지 모두 증가 추세를 보였으며, 각 지역마다 증가율은 다르게 나타났다. 또한 분석 결과의 신뢰성 확보를 위해 Frost & Sullivan의 수익성 평가 자료와 Global Water Intelligence(GWI)에서 2010년도에 발간한 Desalination Market(2010)의 해수담수화 자본지출 (CAPEX)과 비교 분석하였다. 비교 분석한 지역은 5개 지역과 각 지역에서 한 개의 국가를 선정하여 총 5개 국가를 대상으로 하였으며, 기간은 2007년부터 2010년까지 비교 분석하였다. 분석 결과 2007년부터 2010년까지 북아프리카, 사우디아라비아를 제외한 해수담수화 수익금이 증가할 것으로 예측한 세 개 지역의 해수담수화 자본지출(CAPEX)이 모두 증가된 것으로 나타났으며, 비교기간 동안 해수담수화 수익금이 하강할 것으로 나타난 북아프리카의 알제리는 해수담수화 자본지출(CAPEX)이 실제로 하강했던 것으로 나타났다. 하지만, 사우디아라비아의 경우 해수담수화 수익금은 상승할 것으로 나타났으나, 자본지출금액은 하강한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 시장 증대 요인 및 억제 요인에 대한 조사 결과 해수담수화 시장 증대 요인은 5개 지역 모두 물 부족에 따른 영향이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났으며, 사우디아라비아의 경우 지하수자원 부족에 대한 영향이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이는 기후변화에 따른 강우사상 변화, 인구 증가에 따른 것으로 판단된다. 또한 시장 억제 요인으로는 남부유럽을 제외한 4개 지역이 정치적 분란인 것으로 나타났다.

This is bemuse of the raising of sea level due to global warming in the world. Therefore many of European countries, Japan, and U.S.A have been developing the technologies and expanding their markets inside and outside of their country for floating architecture This paper is intended to analyze the market situation and the industry trend of domestic and international part in relation to floating architecture The result will be the basis of the research into the technologies and design in order to catch up with the world market of advanced floating architecture.

Understanding TOT and Divestiture PPP Project in China's Water Market: Centered on SWOT Matrix (중국 TOT와 자산매입 수처리 민관합동투자사업의 이해 : SWOT 분석을 중심으로)

  • A variety of PPP (Public-Private Partnerships) schemes including BOT, TOT (Transfer-Operate-Transfer), and divestiture has been employed in the Chinese water sector. Although the two latter emerging models have been implemented in their full applications lately, there has been no follow-up for identification of opportunities and challenges inherent in those schemes in relation to the market participation of foreign investor. This study undertakes in-depth analysis on the TOT and divestiture projects in the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) matrix and measures the level of agreement on each SWOT through a survey among the Chinese water market experts. The findings can be used to support foreign investors in managing the weaknesses and threats that, unless properly managed, can be evolved into potential project risks, while fully benefiting from the strengths and opportunities of the two schemes.

Development of Korean Container Freight Index Based on Trade Volume (물동량 기반의 한국 정기선 운임지수 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a new Korean container freight index by applying weights based on the global trade volume. To achieve this, it was decided to determine the conditions such as establishment of routes and regions, weighting of trade volumes which based on prior research and expert advice. Based on this, the individual index and regional index and composite index were calculated, and then reliability and statistical significance of the index was verified through correlation analysis and Granger causality analyses. This study suggest the following findings, through the development of the Korean container freight index. Firstly, Korean freight index reflects the overall market situation and can be used as a benchmark for determining the conditions of each market, consisting of criteria of region and routes. Secondly, it is possible to reflect the market conditions in which actual freight differences exist, since it has developed separate indexes for export and import routes. Finally, The composite index is the only index that reflects not only exports and imports but also 27 individual routes based on Busan, which is the most comprehensive indicator of the korean container freight market.
