This study evaluates the occurrences, phyfical weathering and biological deterioration on rock properties during the dissection process an object of stone pagoda in the Mireuksaji temple site. For restoration and conservation, all kinds of rock properties are carried out detailed scientific investigation and diagnosis. Constituting rocks of the pagoda composed mainly of equi-granular medium grained biotite that rock properties presumed to be use about 3,000 materials. Main external properties of the pagoda are total 446 materials, and the rock properties under the concentration load on the each floors occurred with overlapping fracture, weathering and deteriorations. The 84 materials show highly degraded about $18.8\%$ among the external properties. Representative physicochemical deteriorations are fracture, loss, break, exfoliation, degradation, grain shaped dissolution, relief surface, discoloration and hydroxide precipitates, in this study, the deterioration state of each properties give a precisely description and analysis. Coverage of lichen and algae on the rock surface represented about $85\%$. As the some properties, biological contaminants withered up when spray rock surface with diluted cleaning chemicals. Results of the study are utilized an application for restoration system and detailed investigation during the dissection process of stone cultural properties.
The Yeongsheon Sinwoldong three-storied stone pagoda (Treasure No. 465) composed mainly of drusy alkali-granite. The major rock-forming minerals are biotite, quartz, amphiboles, orthoclase and plagioclase. Yellowish brown and black discoloration are formed at the eight sculpture Buddha of the stylobate. A broken rock fragments in the roof material were repaired using epoxy resin and cement mortar in the past. As a result of the infrared thermography analysis from the pagoda, cracks and exfoliation were not serious. Also, P-XRF analysis showed that concentration of Fe (mean 5,599ppm) and S (mean 3,270ppm) were so high in yellowish discoloration parts. Black discoloration area was detected highly Mn (mean 2,155ppm) concentration around the eight sculpture Buddha of the stylobate. The main reason for these are inorganic contaminants from disengaged rock ingredient and organic contaminants from withered plant body. Degree of physical weathering is relatively high in the southern and northern side. The eastern and western side had similar with weathering condition. The northern and eastern side were serious discoloration and biological weathering relatively. Therefore, we suggest that the pagoda need to do cleaning of biological contaminant and conservation treatment to weakened materials of rock and long term monitoring.

There are difficulties in removing wood tar wastewater coming from the power plants that use wood-based fuels due to its intermittent occurrences and severe changes in the amount and concentration. This study investigated the treatment characteristics through physicochemical treatment, an improved method from the existing ones using bag filters and activated carbons to treat wood tar wastewater. In the case of chemical properties of wood tar wastewater, the content of phenols was found to be more than two times higher than that of guaiacols and carbohydrates. Installation is done to ensure that NaOH and PAC are injected automatically according to the change of pH, and then pH, turbidity and SS of the final treated water were examined. The results were 5.9, 12.6 NTU and 15.1 mg/L respectively, which confirmed the possibility of the treated water as circulation water of power plants. In the physical treatment process using a conventional bag filter, removal efficiency of chemicals was about 20%, but the treatment efficiency was improved to show chemical removal efficiency of about 80% through flocculation and sedimentation.
Background: With the advances of cardiac surgery, the demand for an artificial prosthesis has increased, and this has led to the development and utilization of diverse alternative materials. We conducted this research to improve an artificial prosthesis by examining the changes of the physical qualities, the pressure related tensile strength, the change in elasticity and the thermostability of a xenograft valve (porcine) and pericardium (bovine, porcine) based on the type of fixation liquid we used. Material and Method: The xenograft valves and pericardium were assigned into three groups: the untreated group, the fixed with glutaraldehyde (GA) group and the glutaraldehyde with GA+solvent such as ethanol etc. group. The surgeons carried out each group's physical activities. Each group's uniaxial tension and elasticity was measured and compared. Thermostability testing was conducted and compared between the bovine and porcine pericardium fixed with GA group and the GA+solvent group. Result: On the physical activity test in the surgeon's hand, no significant difference between the groups was sensed on palpation. For suture and tension, the GA+solvent group was slightly firmer than the low GA concentration group. In general, the circumferential uniaxial tension and elasticity of the porcine aortic and pulmonary valves were better in the fixed groups than that in the untreated group. There was no significant difference between the GA and GA+solvent groups (p>0.05). Bovine and porcine pericardium also showed no significant difference between the GA group and the GA+solvent group (p>0.05). When comparing between the groups for each experiment, the elasticity tended to be stronger in most of the higher GA concentration group (porcine pulmonary valve, porcine pericardium). On the thermostability testing of the bovine and porcine pericardium, the GA group and the G+solvent group both had a sudden shrinking point at $80^{\circ}C$ that showed no difference (bovine pericardium: p=0.057, porcine pericardium: p=0.227). Conclusion: When fixing xenograft prosthetic devices with GA, adding a solvent did not cause a loss in pressure-tension, tension-elasticity and thermostability. In addition, more functional solvents or cleansers should be developed for developing better xenografts.
Intense convective activity and heavy precipitation inundated Seoul and its metropolitan area on July 15, 2017. This study investigated the synoptic-scale meteorological drivers of cold cloud genesis of this event. The WRF-Chem (Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with Chemistry) model was employed to explore the intricate interplay between meteorological factors and the indirect effects of PM2.5 aerosols originating from eastern China. The PM2.5 aerosols' indirect effect was quantified by contrasting outcomes between the comprehensive Aerosol Radiation Interaction experiment (encompassing aerosol radiation feedback, cloud chemistry processes, and wet scavenging in the WRF-Chem model) and ACR (Aerosol Cloud Radiation interaction) experiment. The ACR experiment specifically excluded aerosol radiation feedback while incorporating only cloud chemistry processes and wet scavenging. Results indicated that in the early hours of July 15, 2017, a convergence of warm, moisture-laden airflow originating from southeast China and the East China Sea unfolded over the Yellow Sea. This convergence was driven by the juxtaposition of a low-pressure system over the Chinese mainland and Northwest Pacific high. Notably, at approximately 12 km altitude, the resultant convective clouds were characterized by the presence of ice crystals, a hallmark of continental-origin cold clouds. The WRF-Chem model simulations elucidated the role of PM2.5 aerosols from eastern China, attributing 5.7, 10.4, and 10.8% to cloud water, ice crystal column, and liquid water column formation, respectively, within the developing cold clouds. Thus, this study presented a meteorological mechanism elucidating the formation of deep convective clouds over the Yellow Sea and the indirect effects of PM2.5 aerosols originating from eastern China.
Background: Bioprosthetic materials have been made using glutaraldehyde fixation of porcine or bovine pericardium during cardiovascular surgery. But these bioprostheses have the problems of calcification and mechanical failure. We determined changes in tensile strength and elasticity of pericardium after glutaraldehyde, solvent, decellularization and detoxification. Material and Method: Tissues were allocated to four groups: glutaraldehyde with and without solvent, decellularization, and detoxification. We studied tensile strength and strain on tissues. We measured the tensile strength of fresh pericardium stretched in six directions (with 5 mm width), and % strain, which we calculated from the breaking point when we pulled the pericardium in two directions. Result: Tensile strength was reduced when we used the usual concentrated glutaraldehyde fixation (n=83, $MPa=11.47{\pm}5.40$, p=0.006), but there was no change when we used solvent. Elasticity was increased after glutaraldehyde fixation (n=83, strain $(%)=24.55{\pm}9.81$, p=0.00), but there was no change after solvent. After decellularization of pericardium, the tensile strength was generally reduced. The decrease in tensile strength after concentrated glutaraldehyde fixation for a long time was significantly greater less than after concentrated solvent (p=0.01, p=0.00). After detoxification, the differences in strength and strain were not significant. Conclusion: After glutaraldehyde treatment of pericardium there is no loss in tensile strength (even though we did the glutaraldehyde, solvent and detoxification treatments LOGIC IS UNCLEAR). Also, these treatments had a tendency to increase elasticity. Although post-treatment decellularization led to a significant loss in strength, this effect could be attenuated using a low concentration of solvent or hypertonic solution.
The Taereung Royal Tomb from the Joseon Dynasty is the tomb of Empress Munjeong, the second queen of King Jungjong, and it contains various types of stone artifacts. All of these stone artifacts were constructed using coarse- to medium-grained biotite granite. The major types of deterioration of the stone artifacts are identified as surface weathering and biological contaminants. Exfoliation (145 sculptures), granular decomposition (138 sculptures), and repair materials (156 sculptures), along with biological contaminant algae (154 sculptures), lichen (165 sculptures) and moss (97 sculptures), have a high occurrence frequency. In particular, it is deemed that immediate conservation treatment is required, as biological deterioration (algae) represents the most serious condition (grade 3 or higher in 94% of all stones), and it is thought that exfoliation and granulation decomposition are required for long-term conservation management. As a result of equo -tip hardness and ultrasonic measurement, more than 70% of stones were found to have very weak physical properties. Through hyperspectral analysis, organisms were shown to inhabit more than 80% of the surface of burial mound stone artifacts, and P (phosphorus), S (sulfur), Cl (chlorine), and Ca (calcium) were detected in this area. This is because Taereung Royal Tomb has been exposed to the outdoors for hundreds of years and has been weathered by physical, chemical, and biological factors. Therefore, among the stone artifacts in the Taereung Royal Tomb, those with high physical weathering grades are considered to require consolidation to reinforce them physically. Since organisms are highly likely to cause stone damage, they must be removed via dry and wet cleaning. In addition, in order to delay the reoccurrence of organisms following conservation treatment, it is necessary to regularly clean up the soil that has flowed into the burial mound, and to monitor conservation conditions over the long term.

The Stupa of the State Preceptor Jigwang from the Beopcheonsaji temple site in Wonju (National Treasure No. 101) was built in the Goryeo Period (around the 11th century), with very excellent style and techniques. It was returned to the Korea after being taken to Osaka of Japan without notice in 1912, and was severely damaged during the Korean War. Subsequently, the Stupa was restored using restoration materials like mortar, and relocated to the National Palace Museum of Korea. Surface contaminants in the Stupa primarily existed around the restoration materials. Black discoloration, which indicates a high discoloration grade, signified a high possession rate in the north and inner regions of the Stupa, which may be related to the relative moisture maintenance time. Most surface contaminants were calcite and gypsum; the black discoloration area underwent secondary discoloration due to air pollution. Moreover, the stone properties exhibited a relatively low discoloration grade, exhibiting crystallized contaminants that partly covered the rock-forming minerals. Overall, the Stupa deteriorated due to discoloration and being covered by lime materials, which were dissolved as the mortar degraded. Hence, it required contaminants removal, surface cleaning and desalination during conservation treatment, in order to control the rate of physicochemical deterioration by contaminants.
A compact adsorption-based process for removal of carbon dioxide and nitrogen from natural gas has been discussed. Among the adsorption-based processes, especially, the pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process has been a suitable unit operation for the purification and separation of gas because of low operation energy and cost. A step cycle is made up of pressurization, feed, equalization, blowdown and rinse. In this work, the PSA process is composed of zeolite 13X and carbon molecular sieve (CMS) for removal of carbon dioxide and nitrogen from mixed gas containing $CH_4/CO_2/N_2$ (75:21:4 vol%). A CMS selectively removes carbon dioxide and a zeolite 13X separates nitrogen from methane. CMS is investigated experimentally due to the high throughput of the faster diffusing component ($CO_2$). The gas composition of top, bottom and feed tank was measured with the gas chromatography (GC) using TCD detector, helium as carrier gas and packed column for analysis of methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen.

The stone lantern of the four guardian kings in the Beopjusa temple at Boeun was mainly made of biotite granodiorite consisting of porphyritic-textured potassium feldspar and included in ilmenite series. A base stone made of alkali granite was buried, after founded its place during an earlier restoration process. Cracking and break out are noticeable on this object. In addition, discoloration, salt crusting, and epiphytes were observed. The lantern was vulnerable in terms of physical and structural stability caused by cracking in the front and back of the light chamber and in the non-horizontal direction. According to the conservational condition of the stone lantern, structural reinforcement was carried out based on calculations, including those on the position, size, and anchor length of the titanium stiffener. Chemical and biological pollutants were washed off without damage to the surface of the stone material. Oxygenated iron pieces were replaced with titanium. Ethyl silicate was applied to the surface of the lantern for consolidation and smooth drainage.
