  • This study was conducted to identify the levels of patient safety culture, critical thinking disposition, and patient safety nursing activities and determine the factors affected by patient safety nursing activities among nurses in comprehensive nursing care service wards. Subjects consisted of 150 nurses from general hospitals in B city, Korea, and data were analyzed using the SPSS Win 21.0 program. The mean scores of awareness of patient safety culture, critical thinking disposition, and patient safety nursing activities were $3.32{\pm}0.32$, $3.50{\pm}0.31$, and $4.28{\pm}0.46$, respectively. The awareness of patient safety culture was significantly different by clinical career in the present unit (F=4.79, p=0.001). The critical thinking disposition was significantly different by age (F=3.89, p=0.010) and position (F=6.40, p=0.002). There were differences in the scores of patient safety nursing activities according to position (F=3.19, p=0.044). Additionally, hospital environment (${\beta}=0.25$, p=0.014), supervisor attitude (${\beta}=0.20$, p=0.046), and position (${\beta}=0.14$, p=0.040) accounted for a 44.4% variance in patient safety nursing activities. To promote patient safety nursing activities in comprehensive nursing care service wards, positive awareness of the hospital's safety environment and support from the manager are required.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the zero-sum belief scale among a sample of Korean adults. The original scale was developed by Różycka-Tran, Boski, and Wojciszke (2015) based on the Belief in a Zero-Sum Game (BZSG) model. A total of 508 participants (252 college students and 256 non-student adults) completed an online survey comprised of the scales of zero-sum belief, social trust, subjective socioeconomic status, individualistic-collectivistic tendencies, and social comparison orientation. Results of the exploratory factor analysis and the confirmatory factor analysis indicated that zero-sum belief scale has one factor. The internal consistency of the zero-sum belief scale was good. The Zero-sum belief scale did not have a significant relationship with social trust and subjective socioeconomic status. However, the scale was positively associated with vertical individualistic and vertical collectivistic tendencies and negatively associated with horizontal collectivistic tendencies. There was no significant relationship between zero-sum belief and horizontal individualistic tendencies, but there was a significant positive relationship between zero-sum belief and social comparison orientation. However, the results from the college student sample and the non-student adult sample were different. Lastly, this study could facilitate future research on zero-sum belief in South Korea, and future studies are needed to reveal the predictors and effects of zero-sum belief.

  • The study examined moderating role of thinking style about causality in the relationship between the perceived brand globalness(PBG) and the brand evaluation. Thinking style about causality is divided into interactionism and dispositionism. Individualism culture shows a tendency of thinking style about causality to dispositionism, and collectivist cultures shows a tendency for interactionism. We conducted a survey on Korean college students who represent collectivist cultures and foreign students from countries of individualistic culture and analyzed data through structural equation modeling. Analysis result showed that the higher the respondents perceived PBG, the higher they perceived brand quality, brand quality, and brand price. However, it showed that PBG has greater positive effects on perceived brand quality and perceived brand reputation among Korean students than students from individualistic cultures. On the other hand, the effects of PBG on perceived brand price did not show any significant difference between Korean students and students from individualist cultures. Thus, we can conclude that thinking style about causality plays a moderating role in the relationship between PBG and perceived brand quality and brand reputation, while it does not do so between PBG and perceived brand price.

  • The recent findings proposed and found that people from Eastern cultures could experience strong cognitive dissonance only when certain conditions, such as other-related choices, normative attitudes, were fulfilled. Even though such interesting findings are intuitively convincing on the basis of common understanding of individualist and collectivist cultures, the psychological mechanisms underlying the cultural variations of cognitive dissonance remain untested. The present study examined the role of attitude importance in cognitive dissonance by using the free-choice paradigm. After completing a pretest of individualism-collectivism scales, 60 college students ranked their preference to 10 items of either beverage or traffic regulations twice. Between the two ranking tasks, they were asked to engage in behavioral selection among their 5th and 6th preferred items. They also rated the personal importance of the preference. The results showed that attitude importance was positively correlated with attitude change and it could play a major role in experiencing cognitive dissonance beyond cultural orientation and situational factors. The current findings were discussed in universality of cognitive dissonance across cultures.

  • Drawing upon research in affect and social identity theory, this study examines when and how an individual's trait positive affect (TPA) exerts a significant effect on the person's organizational citizenship behavior directed toward individuals (OCBI). A moderated mediation model was tested by using the data of 293 employees nested in 66 work groups. Results demonstrate that the indirect effect of TPA on OCBI mediated by group identification (GI) is significantly positive only when perceived group positive affect (PGPA) is low, highlighting the substituting role of PGPA in the relationship between TPA and GI. The significant conditional indirect effects at the low level of PGPA suggest that TPA functions as significant, affective resources for enhancing GI and consequently increasing OCBI of the focal member when PGPA is low. By contrast, TPA's role in enhancing GI becomes redundant when PGPA is high. The current analysis reveals potential complementary functions of TPA and PGPA in explaining subsequent identity cognition and individual behavior.

  • This study investigated the differential interactive effects of the combination of driving confidence and sensation-seeking on driving anger among different age groups, by using correlation analysis, a hierarchical regression and ANOVAs for the data gathered through the questionnaires administrated in a form of face-to-face interview. The results showed the followings. First, males tended to show higher level in driving anger than females. Second, whereas sensation-seeking was positively correlated with driving anger, age and driving experience were negatively correlated with driving anger, respectively. Third, although there was no significant relationship between driving confidence and driving anger among the drivers aged under 40 years, the drivers aged over 40 years showed higher level of driving anger as their driving confidence increased. Forth, level of sensation-seeking was found to be a strong predictor of driving anger in all age groups. Fifth, driving confidence and sensation-seeking appeared to affect the level of driving anger interactively among drivers aged under 40 years or over 65 years, resulting in higher driving anger only when both the levels of driving confidence and sensation-seeking were high. In contrast, driving confidence and sensation-seeking affected driving anger independently among the drivers aged 30-49 years. Implication and suggestion were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among perfectionism, stress, and burnout in college golf athletes. Participants were 221 college students. Self-oriented perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism were found to be the antecedent variables causing stress. Self-oriented perfectionism reduced personal accomplishments, and socially prescribed perfectionism increased the level of burnout. Additionally, perceived stress not only engendered emotional exhaustion but also reduced personal accomplishments. Regarding indirect effects, self-oriented perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism increased the level of stress and affected athletes' emotional exhaustion and lack of accomplishments. The results will be of use for helping athletes to escape from the perfectionism that occurs due to their obsession with winning, thus laying the foundation for athletes to continue to enjoy their sports.
