  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of individual cultural disposition on the perception of contextual information and attitude toward contextual material, and to provide the effective ways of delivering information. To investigate individual cultural disposition, this study employed Triandis(1988)'s cultural scale that classified people into four categories using individualism/collectivism and vertical/horizontal dimensions. The results revealed that Korean college students had higher horizontal collectivism than other cultural dispositions, but only a few Korean college students had vertical individualism. The results using regression analysis revealed that Korean college students with vertical collectivism significantly perceived more contextual information than other groups.

  • This study aimed to investigate the interactive effects of individual's cultural disposition (individualism, collectivism, horizontal disposition and vertical disposition) and cognitive style (analytic vs. holistic thinking) combination on differences in global precedence. For this purpose, the participants were divided into 4 different cultural disposition groups based on Singelis et al.'s(1995) INDCOL scale, and 2 cognitive style groups based on Choi et al.'s(2007) AHS, and required to respond selectively to global or local property of two types of compound stimuli (compound figure and compound letter). Reaction time and error rates for both global or local property were analyzed and compared as the dependent measurement. The results can be summarized as followings. First, faster responses were observed in compound figure condition than in compound letter condition, and to global property than to local property. Second, contrasting to individualism-cognitive style or horizontal disposition-cognitive style combinations, significant interaction effects both between collectivism and cognitive style, and between vertical disposition and cognitive style on global/local processing were found. This result indicated that combinations of collectivism-holistic thinking and vertical disposition-holistic thinking can induced larger global precedence effect than other combinations of cultural disposition and cognitive style.

  • Previous findings on Organizational Citizenship Behaviors is a useful index for effectiveness of the organization. Also, it is a factor that explains the relation between its member's attitude and behavior as organizational commitment had been stabilized. • Do cultural differences affect moral decisions? Two studies were conducted to investigate whether attitudes of individualism vs. collectivism have an impact on ethical decision making. Study 1 (N=92) showed that utilitarianism was preferred in a situation, in which an intervention resulted in the best outcome (i.e., saving more people's lives), while deontology was preferred in a situation, in which the focus was on negative consequences of the intervention (i.e. personal sacrifices). Additionally, there were differences between the idiocentrics and the allocentrics groups regarding morality aspects. In the idiocentrics group, harm and fairness were regarded as more important than other moral aspects, while in the allocentrics group, not only harm and fairness, but also ingroup and authority were perceived as critical moral aspects. In Study 2 (N=30), after lexical decision tasks were conducted for culture priming, the mouse tracking method was used to explore response dynamics of moral decision processes, while judging appropriateness of interventions in moral dilemmas. In Study 2, in a condition, in which the small number of victims were focused upon, there were more maximal deviations and higher Xflips in the individualism priming group than in the collectivism priming group, which showed that the participants in the individualism condition had more deliberative processes before choosing their answers between utilitarianism and deontology. In addition, the participants in the individualism priming condition showed more maximal deviations in the mouse trajectories regarding ingroup related interventions in moral dilemmas than those in the collectivism priming condition. These results implicated the possibilities that the automatic emotional process and the controlled deliberative process in moral decision making might interact with cultural dispositions of the individuals and the focus of situations.

Hypotheses are tested with a sample of 164 university students in Shanghai, China. The results of the structural equation analysis reveal that chinese consumers' collectivism in the individual-level positively affects the opinion seeking behavior. And chinese consumers' uncertainty avoidance in the individual-level positively affects the opinion seeking behavior and negatively affects the opinion giving behavior. Lastly, the opinion giving behavior positively affects the pass along behavior. Theoretical and managerial implications for Internet marketers in China were presented and discussed.

  • This study examined the effects of ambivalence over emotional expressiveness (AEE) on psychological maladjustment and subjective well-being. Furthermore, we examined the moderating effect of collectivism on the relationships between AEE, psychological maladjustment and subjective well-being. Many Korean psychologists have suggested a moderating effect of collectivism on the relationship between ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and psychological adjustment, but there are few studies that have examined these relationships. Consequently, it is necessary to investigate these effects. Data concerning AEE, individualism, collectivism, psychological maladjustment (BSI), and subjective well-being were collected from 138 adults in South Korea. To test the moderation effects, multiple regression analyses was conducted. Results found AEE increased psychological maladjustment and decreased subjective well-being. However, the moderating effect of collectivism was not found in the relationship between AEE and psychological maladjustment, as well as AEE and subjective well-being. The difference of emotion suppression and AEE regarding cultural orientation and clinical implication of these findings were discussed.

  • Past studies in HCI explained the cultural characteristics of individual users by generalizing them at the country-level. However, since the usage of devices or online services, which are main research subjects for the HCI field, are personal, cultural categorization by countres may have limitations in explaining the personal behavior. This is because cultural characteristics of individuals may vary even within the same country; moreover, in may vary depending on the product of usage. Therefore, this exploratory study aims to suggest that there may be differences in cultural characteristics not only between countries but also between individuals and product of usage.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between the two factors and the influence of Chinese cultural orientation on the change of physical dry environment in the domestic Chinese residential area. To this end, Hofsted's cultural dimension theory, which can quantitatively define and compare the national culture, is used to investigate the cultural orientation of China. The association was analyzed. Through this study, it was confirmed that the collectivist and uncertainty-avoidance tendency of the Chinese influenced the formation and change of the dry environment of the Chinese residential area in Daelim 2-dong. This study is meaningful in confirming that the cultural orientation of the migrant community affects the formation and change of collective residences, and through this, it can be used as basic data in preparing policies suitable for various migrant communities including Chinatown.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of art and culture experience according to art and culture perception on art and culture consumption. Accordingly, the perception expressed through the experiences of consumers was defined as the delivery of art and culture marketing strategies, and the behavior of consumers enjoying art and culture was measured. The research data were analyzed through an online survey. As a result of the analysis, sense, relation had a significant effect on the hedonistic factor, and the act, sense, emotion and relation had significant effects on the other's consciousness, and the behavioral and emotional factors had a significant effect on the intentional factors. The implication from the experience of relationships with others was found to have a negative(-) effect on all factors, which means to be the result of consumers' anxiety in enjoying art due to the pandemic. It is necessary to develop an online business model for consumers who naturally avoid it, and to narrow the gap between online and offline art and culture. Second, it is thought that sponsorship from companies is necessary so that artists who provide art and culture can produce high-quality contents. In the future, if it was studied the relationship between not only consumers who enjoy art and culture, but also suppliers and artists who provide art and culture, it will be able to understand the culture in-depth.
