  • The purpose of this study is to examine process and organization of local government-managed construction by reviewing official documents and materials in regard to the official residences and castles officially constructed in Dongnae in the 19c Chosun Dynasty. Results of this study can be described as follows. 1) The construction of official residences requires exchanges of official documents among upper and lower governmental agencies concerned. Previously prepared for some 1 or 2 months, the construction was proceeded through proceeded from Paok to Gaegi, Ipju, Sangryang, Gaeok and to Iptaek. Such construction was carried out independently and concurrently Gijang and Yangsan neighboring Dongnae provided cooperation by way of supplying labor and timbers. 2) Dongnaebu castle was constructed under local autonomy system, like other government-oriented works, as governor of Dongnae became responsible for defending such establishment in 1739. The castle was built up in 1731 as an establishment with 6 gated and 15 forts. Directly controlled by governor of Dongnae, the castle continued to be partially repaired until the 19th century. Under the regime of Daewongun, the castle was enlarged and extended for military strengthening. • With the introduction of the system of recognizing masters of craft and performance skills in 1970, the principle of "preserving the original form," which was already in general use, was adopted as a legal principle in the Cultural Heritage Protection Act. While the concept "original form" can be related to tangible elements of heritage through the Act, the intangibility of craft and performance skills does not allow their pinpointing at a particular temporal period or the identification of a particular master from the past as the basis of an original form. Therefore, those craft or performance skills that are available at the point of recognition of relevant masters must serve as the basis of the original form for the intangible heritage concerned. This means that the principle of preserving the original form of intangible heritage has been implemented not based on a fundamental form of materiality, but rather on the craft or performance skills that may be held by a master at the time of his/her recognition as a "temporary original form." This principle has been observed through intangible heritage transmission and education policies for recognized masters and their trainees, contributing to establish an elitist transmission environment in which public were denied to join the education on intangible heritage. Even with policies guided by the principle of preserving the original form, designated craft and performance skills have been transformed contingent upon given social and environmental conditions, thus hindering the preservation of the original form. Despite the intrinsic limitations of the principle of preserving the original form when applied to intangible heritage, this principle has served as a practical guideline for protecting traditional Korean culture from external influences such as modernization and Westernization, and also as an ultimate goal for the safeguarding of intangible heritage, engendering actual policy effects. The Act on the Safeguarding and Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage that comes into effect in March 2016 takes the constantly evolving nature of intangible heritage into consideration and resultantly adopts a concept of "essential form" (jeonhyeong) in place of "original form" (wonhyeong). This new concept allows for any transformations that may take place in the environment surrounding the intangible heritage concerned, and is intended to mitigate the rigidity of the concept of "original form." However, it should be noted that "essential form," which is manifested as the unique significance, knowledge, and skills delivered by the intangible heritage concerned, should be maintained according to the guidelines and principles related to heritage conservation. Therefore, the new concept can be understood not as a rupture, but more as a continuum of the concept of "original form."

  • Antique maps are a cultural heritage of recorded information with distinguished pictorial and scientific value. They have been utilized in a variety of academic fields, especially in historical geography, as the most fundamental data to look into the restoration of space or historic changes of area from the past. However, there is no sufficient study on the development of contents using antique maps in the exhibitions. Furthermore, there is almost no content research on the antique maps integrating the academic programs in museums or art galleries. In particular, it is very difficult to find research on the approaches to configure or utilize the exhibition contents related to the Sea of Korea using European antique maps. This study examined the construction of educational contents in order to use the European antique maps including the Sea of Korea as well as Korea itself in the exhibitions. The results of this study may visualize the results of academic research on the territory and territorial waters of Korea and extensively acknowledge them as scientific data all over the world. Furthermore, this study aimed to create the opportunity to increase interest in the Sea of Korea and recognize it again, to find the contents construction to use European antique maps as academic data for exhibition and education in museums or cultural facilities and to provide a basic model for history education using antique maps.

  • This study conducted an experiment using data mining techniques to develop prediction models of worker job turnover. The experiment used data from the '2015 Graduate Occupational Mobility Survey' by the Korea Employment Information Service. We developed the prediction models using a decision tree, Bayes net, and artificial neural network. We found that the decision tree-based prediction model reported the best accuracy. We also found that the six influential factors affecting employees' turnover intention are type of working time, job status, full-time or not full-time, regular working hours per week, regular working days per week, and personal development opportunities. From the decision tree-based prediction model, we derived 12 rules of employee turnover for all job types. Using the derived rules, we proposed helpful directions for enhancing workers' job tenure. In addition, we analyzed the influential factors affecting employees' job turnover intention according to four job types and derived rules for each: office (ten rules), culture and art (nine rules), construction (four rules), and information technology (six rules). Using the derived rules, we proposed customized directions for improving the job tenure for each group.

  • In order to prevent the national wide spread of the COVID-19 virus, the government enforces to use an electronic access registration system for public facilities to effectively track and manage the spread. Initially, there was a lot of hassle to write a directory, but recently a system for creating an electronic access list using QR codes, what is called KI-Pass, is mainly used. However, the procedure for generating a QR code is somewhat cumbersome. In this paper, we propose a new electronic access registration system that does not require QR code. This system effectively controls the suspicious visitor by using a mask wearing discriminator which has been implemented using deep learning technology, and a non-contact thermometer package. In addition, by linking the beacon, a short-range wireless communication technology, and the visitor's smartphone application, basic information of the facility visitor is automatically registered to KDCA through the server. On the other hand, the user access information registered in the server is encrypted and stored, and is automatically destroyed after up to 4 weeks. This system is expected to be very effective in preventing the spread of other new infectious diseases as well as responding to the coronavirus which is recording a high spread worldwide.

  • Modern high technology has developed from a printing type-oriented culture to sight and hearing-oriented one. Such changes helped raise users' interests and desires on being seen and heard, encouraging research for various usages and types. In particular, with the common use of high speed Internet and firmer standing of Internet as advertising media, Internet banner advertisement has been growing twice as much as the previous year, every year. With this accelerated development of multimedia Kinetic Typography has been used for a variety of forms. During this series of process, the most important one is the expression of the movement of Kinetic Typography. Information able to obtain from the existing way of reading became transferred to the process of multi-dimensional process of obtaining such as seeing and hearing. Accordingly, more effective expression with interesting factors considered together with more activeness for users' obtaining information through Internet, can expect more positive effects. Towards this goal, more various new tries should be made for Internet banner advertisement. In particular, with the larger role in Kinetic Typography to play the role of users' reading for information obtainment, the principles & factors of expression for Internet banner advertisement would be studied, and expression types and structure would be considered, and data from them would be collected and analyzed, to suggest the direction of development.

  • This article explores the fate of futurism not only by tracing the entire process from the birth and decline of Russian futurism in the early 20th century and the so-called "Korean futurism" in the early 21st century, but also by delving into how their characteristics were shaped. In the first chapter, we investigate four groups of Russian futurism - Ego-Futurism, Cubo-Futurism, Tsentrifuga, and the Mezzanine of poetry, which were born in the age of utopianism before the Revolution. In the opera Victory Over the Sun, which was the culmination of the Zaum project of Cubo-futurists, we can find the initial shortcomings at the levels of language (Kruchenykh), music (Matyushin) and decoration and costume design (Malevich). In the second chapter, we examine chronologically how the term 'futurism' appeared in Korean literature history. In Korea, the term 'futurism' was born following the naming and classification of critic Kwon Heok-Woong, not by the voluntary manifestation of experimental poets such as Hwang Byong-Seung, thus this specific situation provoked stormy polemics between critics for futurism and critics against futurism in the Korean literary world. These polemics on futurist poetics have led to considerations of the relation of criticism to poetry.

  • This study, under the title of Daeungbojeon Hall of Bulyeongsa Temple, Uljin and the architectural technique of the architect, aimed to make a comprehensive speculation on Daeungbojeon Hall of Bulyeongsa Temple whose accurate construction year was confirmed in 1725. While existing studies dealt with it separately between construction and Buddhist art history this study attempted to sort out it in one perspective by means of comparison with compatible objects in the area. The results are as follows. 1st, by means of comparison of wall painting of Daeungbojeon Hall of Bulyeongsa Temple and other wall paintings of Gyeongsang-do Province, it was estimated to be created before and after 1725, the founding year of the building. 2nd, the stylobate of Daeungbojeon Hall is the only and unique case that Guibu was supported by the bottom. Such stylobate was estimated to be built in the early period of Goryeo stylobate of PostLintel Construction which was more simplified than that of the traditional unified Silla period considering specific techniques. Lastly, by means of comparison of the architectural technique of Daeungbojeon Hall of Bulyeongsa Temple with other temples in Gyeongsang-do Province, the characteristics of the building were found. In particular, the same architectural technique was confirmed by direct comparison of style with Yeongsanjeon Hall of Tongdosa Temple in 1714 which was constructed by the same architect.
