  • This study is a methodological research study that tests the validity and reliability of the NCRC (Nurse Clinical Reasoning Competence scale), an instrument developed by Liou and his colleagues as the basic data for enhancing the clinical reasoning competence of nurses, by translating it into Korean and checking the similarity of the sentence structure and meaning (between the two versions?). This study verified its validity and reliability by examining 166 nurses working in four tertiary hospitals located in Seoul and Busan. An analysis of the content validity by experts showed that all of the items have a content validity higher than CVI 0.8. From the exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, it was found that the instrument includes a total of 15 items consisting of one factor. In addition, the correlation with the Korean version of the Nurse Clinical Reasoning Competence scale is confirmed to test the concurrent validity, by using a measurement tool of nurses' critical thinking dispositions and clinical decision-making abilities (correlation coefficient =.55-.64(p<.001) and Cronbach's ${\alpha}=.93$). Thus, the Korean version of the NCRC may be a useful instrument for evaluating the clinical reasoning competence of Korean nurses and providing the basic data for assessing their clinical reasoning competence and developing their promotion strategies.

  • The introduction of dongbal[bara] is in line with Buddhism which was transmitted from India through China. Therefore, this paper tracked down the records of dongbal in Indian and Chinese Buddhism, and especially in scriptures and in ritual texts of Korean Buddhism, and studied the functionality and the use of dongbal, and the attributes of Baramu. Among the scriptures that record dongbal, 『Myobeopyeon hwagyeong(妙法蓮華經)』(A.D.406) is the earliest to be translated. The records of bara in the scriptures were written as dongbal(銅鈸) mostly, and that it was used as ritual tool(法具), instrumental offering, and religious ornament(莊嚴物). The oldest record which can verify that dongbal was used in Korea is 『Seodaesajajaeryugijang(西大寺資財流記帳)』(A.D.780). The oldest cymbals-like relic remaining today, the reliquary from the temple Gameunsa built in A.D.628, dates back to the early period of Unified Silla. This indicates that dongbal has been used at Korean temples by the 7th century at least. The records of dongbal(銅鈸) written in cheong-gyu(淸規, buddhist monastic rules) and ritual texts are classified as myeongbal(鳴鈸) and dongbal(動鈸). The letter 'myeong(鳴)' of myeongbal means to make a sound, and thus myeongbal refers to clash and make the sound of the bara. It is verified that myeongbal had certain established rules and methods. It appears that dongbal(動鈸) refers to Baramu(the cymbals dance) since the letter 'dong(動)' means movement or to move. Hence, the concept of movement was added to the signification of myeongbal, and became dongbal(動鈸), and then developed into baramu being transmitted until today. There are 8 types of Baramu transmitted in Korean Buddhist rituals, and they could be classified into purifying ritual, inviting ritual, protecting ritual, offering ritual, bathing ritual, dressing ritual, saluting ritual, and praising ritual according to their attributes.

  • In order to investigate the issue with the proper name of eshel(Tamarix aphylla) mentioned in the Bible, analysis of morphological taxonomy features of plants, studies on the symbolism of the Tamarix genus, analysis of examples in Korean classics and Chinese classics, and studies on the problems found in translations of Korean, Chinese and Japanese Bibles. The results are as follows. According to plant taxonomy, similar species of the Tamarix genus are differentiated by the leaf and flower, and because the size is very small about 2-4mm, it is difficult to differentiate by the naked eye. However, T. aphylla found in the plains of Israel and T. chinensis of China and Korea have distinctive differences in terms of the shape of the branch that droops and its blooming period. The Tamarix genus is a very precious tree that was planted in royal courtyards of ancient Mesopotamia and the Han(漢) Dynasty of China, and in ancient Egypt, it was said to be a tree that gave life to the dead. In the Bible, it was used as a sign of the covenant that God was with Abraham, and it also symbolized the prophet Samuel and the court of Samuel. When examining the example in Korean classics, the Tamarix genus was used as a common term in the Joseon Dynasty and it was often used as the medical term '$Ch{\bar{e}}ngli{\check{u}}$(檉柳)'. Meanwhile, the term 'wiseonglyu(渭城柳)' was used as a literary term. Upon researching the period and name of literature related to $Ch{\bar{e}}ngli{\check{u}}$(檉柳) among Chinese medicinal herb books, a total of 16 terms were used and among these terms, the term Chuísīliǔ(垂絲柳) used in the Chinese Bible cannot be found. There was no word called 'wiseonglyu(渭城柳)' that originated from the poem by Wang Wei(699-759) of Tang(唐) Dynasty and in fact, the word 'halyu(河柳)' that was related to Zhou(周) China. But when investigating the academic terms of China currently used, the words Chuísīliǔ(垂絲柳) and $Ch{\bar{e}}ngli{\check{u}}$(檉柳) are used equally, and therefore, it appears that the translation of eshel in the Chinese Bible as either Chuísīliǔ (垂絲柳) or $Ch{\bar{e}}ngli{\check{u}}$(檉柳) both appear to be of no issue. There were errors translating tamarix into 'やなぎ(willow)' in the Meiji Testaments(舊新約全書 1887), and translated correctly 'ぎょりゅう(檉柳)' since the Colloquial Japanese Bible(口語譯 聖書 1955). However, there are claims that 'gyoryu(ぎょりゅう 檉柳)' is not an indigenous species but an exotics species in the Edo Period, so it is necessary to reconsider the terminology. As apparent in the Korean classics examples analysis, there is high possibility that Korea's T. chinensis were grown in the Korean Peninsula for medicinal and gardening purposes. Therefore, the use of the medicinal term $Ch{\bar{e}}ngli{\check{u}}$(檉柳) or literary term 'wiseonglyu' in the Korean Bible may not be a big issue. However, the term 'wiseonglyu' is used very rarely even in China and as this may be connected to the admiration of China and Chinese things by literary persons of the Joseon Dynasty, so the use of this term should be reviewed carefully. Therefore, rather than using terms that may be of issue in the Bible, it is more feasible to transliterate the Hebrew word and call it eshel.

  • Reincarnation, literally means "to be made flesh again". It is a mystical belief that the soul lives again in a new body after death. In this study, both material and spiritual elements are reincarnated in the form of the formative art in our life. This is similar to the notion of transmigration of the souls in Buddism and Taoism. Even a work of low merit can be an artifact when we give a new meaning and value through the reincarnation. Reincarnation opens another dimension in the formative art and it can be a new source of energy Andy Warhol, who is a central figure in the pop art movement, seems to have an idea of reincarnation in the base of his work. In Korea, there are many experimental arts in design and advertising which shows reincarnation. In the modem society, the activity and mind of reincarnation have been enhanced through Internet and digital medium and people consider reincarnation as a universal philosophy in the art. Especially, the reincarnation as a continuum of design has many implementations. Now the object will be freely adopted, and transformed and it will open a new age in the formative art. We should be ready to enjoy the arts.

  • This Study has been conducted to examine the transition of Japanese 'Social Welfare' in the light of Monthly Welfare which is the oldest professional journal of social welfare in Japan. Especially, this study has insisted on grasping the interaction among politics, economy, society, and culture through social historic perspective. Consequentially, some important themes are emerged from the journal which had been changed as time passes(Charity, Society and Relief, Social Work, Public Welfare Work, Social Work, and Monthly Welfare) as follows; 'strict declaration of charity and relief', 'relief work and social worker', 'professionalism and science of social work ', 'national life rebuilding and localization of welfare facilities', 'new face of livelihood protection and social work', 'community work and fund raising', and the like. In particular, it is revealed that 'Sahoisaup' is a word of translation from Social Work, in addition this word has been used as a word including diverse works in Japan. Also, it is emphasized that the necessity of Japanese experience could be studied in Korea.

  • Cats used to be long avoided in Korean culture due to prejudices on their negative implications, yet they are increasingly being favoured by domestic readers along with a growing number of cat lovers, picture books, essays and webtoons. In the case of Yoko Sano's work, half of her published books in Korea depicts cats. Among those is 'The Cat That Lived a Million Times' which is a worldwide million seller. The research analyses five picture books on cats published in Korea, focusing on finding out symbolic representation of cats other than merely being the protagonist of the book. Sano asserts that we respect our own free well and love ourselves just as cats do in her books. In conclusion, cats in Sano's work mostly represent the author herself, which are sometimes depicted as mother and son. The colours and thick outlines of her cats, unlike tender characteristics, describes self-righteous strong personality, while emphasising both static and dynamic movements.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to provide Korean version of mild traumatic brain injury assessment tool. Methods The original version of acute concussion evaluation (ACE) was translated into Korean, and it was then back-translated into English without any prior knowledge of ACE. Finally, the pre-final version of Korean version of acute concussion evaluation (K-ACE) was derived. 49 Korean patients who had been diagnosed with mild traumatic brain injury participated in the study and completed K-ACE. Overall, 44 data were used to analyze findings. Validity of the study was assessed based on Concurrent validity. Reliability was also evaluated using Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ and the intraclass correlation coefficient. Results The Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ value for each item presented a proper level of internal consistency with results of 0.711 to 0.893 in two evaluations, respectively. The intraclass correlation coefficient of the retest reliability was marked as 0.892 (95% CI 0.840~0.933). Concurrent validity demonstrated positive correlations between K-ACE and Korean version of postconcussional syndrome questionnaire. Conclusions The K-ACE is concluded as a valid and reliable tool for measuring mild traumatic brain injury and post-concussion symptoms. Upon completion of the follow-up study, the K-ACE will be well-utilized by both clinicians and researchers.
