The purpose of this study is to analyze the potential use of the theme collection as a new classification method that reflects the interest of users in terms of classification and categorization. For this purpose, the background of the theme collection was identified based on the discussion of the library resource organization and the introduction of the curation service of bookstore. In addition, based on case analysis, which is building the theme collection, concrete concepts and characteristics of theme collection are derived. Based on the above discussion, the classification and categorization characteristics of public library themes collections were analyzed, and the characteristics and functions as a classification were compared with other categories relatively. Finally, the utility and applicability of the theme collection is presented and it is based on the discussions about the user-centered classification system design of the library in the future.

This study examined the relative retrieval effectiveness after relevance feedback between two systems (Title/Abstract and Full-text) using four different sets of relevance judgment. Four relevance levels (not relevant, marginally relevant, relevant, highly relevant) are also used, each of which is determined by referees giving a relevance score to documents. This study also investigated how much the average precision was improved after relevance feedback when "marginally relevant" documents are included in the relevant class with the Title/Abstract system, and with the Full-text retrieval system as well. It is found that the Title/Abstract system benefited from relevance feedback with the marginally relevant documents. In case of the Title/Abstract system, the higher percentage of improvement was consistently obtained when including the marginally relevant documents in the relevance class, however the result was vice versa in case of the Full-text retrieval system. It implied that the marginally relevant documents in the relevant class had caused noises in the Full-text retrieval system.

Korean Library Association brought out the fourth revised and enlarged edition of KDC last year. Compared with the former edition It Is a marked improvement. Neverthless, it leaves much room for improvement. In order to examine and evaluate the edition more effectively, I confined my study to the class 'Philosophy'. In my judgment the problem resolves itself into following three points: 1) Each regions, blanches of philosophy is not properly balanced. As is generally known KDC was originally derived from DDC. As a result KDC and DBC are similiar with regard to their stress on the philosophical tradition of the West. In consequence, it is lacking in universality. 2) The classifiers neglected on several occassions the logical regulations of classification. The vertical and horizontal relations between the subjects are not strictly respected. 3) The persons concerned were not well informed of philosophical conceptions and genealogies. There are some misused conceptions and disorganized genealogies of philosophy. To my knowledge these problems originate in the lack of professional understanding of philosophy necessary to make the work satisfactory As a result of the examination I came to the conclusion that it is inevitable for the classifiers, to ask to specialists in philosophy for mutual cooperation. Without their professional advices the classifiers will find difficulty in solving the problems and in improving the classification

재난안전분야 연구 및 기술개발을 위한 현황분석 및 동향파악을 위해 연구개발활동의 주요 성과물인 특허정보의 활용은 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 재난안전분야 국내 특허문헌을 대상으로 산업분야별 현황 및 특성을 분석하였다. 분석연구를 위해 재난안전분야 키워드를 포함하고 표준산업분류 매핑이 가능한 국내 특허정보를 식별하여 데이터셋으로 사용하였다. 분석 결과, 표준산업분류 체계의 산업분야 레벨별 특허 분포 현황 및 출원기관 분포 현황과 산업분야별 핵심 키워드가 자세히 파악되었다. 연구결과는 국가 재난대응을 위한 지능형 위기경보 체계 등을 개발하기 위한 정보 자원으로 활용이 기대되며, 향후 논문, 보고서를 통합한 포괄적인 재난안전분야 문헌 분석 연구가 필요하다.

This study aims to perform an evaluation of classification systems provided by major Korean search portals, Naver, Nate, Daum, and Yahoo-Korea. These classification systems are evaluated in terms of the consistency of classification system, logicality of classification system, ease of interface, clarity of category names, order of category and site listing, and hierarchical structure. The results of this study show that each search portal provides separate classification systems for their services. These results imply that it is crucial for search portals to implement a common classification system and a common interface for their services. This study could contribute to the development and improvement of portals' classification systems.

The KDC is the most widely used classification system in the elementary school libraries of Korea, but it is only published in full edition. This study is to development abridged KDC edition for elementary school libraries as the subject of KDC. In order to do this, the present writer carried out as follows; to analyse the present state of an class in KDC, to analyse a distribution chart of a class in an practical books and to comes up with a plan of abridged KDC edition as the grounding in the foundation of volume a collection of books. The abridged edition for elementary school libraries is a structural hierarchy of the corresponding full edition which it is based, and is intended for general collections of 20,000 titles or less.

The objective of this study is to analyze the characteristics of Cutter's Expansive Classification. The four elements about classification evaluation were applied to analyze it. Results show that first, from philosophy and religion class to literature class, the order of main classes is logical and evolutionary. Second, the notation is a pure notation including author mark. Third, the classification is expansive from first classification to seventh classification. Science classes were expanded in the second classification comparing to the first classification. From the third classification, all classes were expanded. Fourth, it was applied by the local list to indicate places emphasizing connection of geographical space.

It is very important to organize materials at intemet bookstores. It is time for us to develop a subject classification scheme as a tool for increasing the effectiveness of information retrieval with ease of subject access. The purpose of this study is to examine the subject features of internet bookstores in order to suggest the effective design of the subject scheme for them. Nine internet bookstore websites are analyzed at the aspect of the subject classification of the materials. Based upon the results of this study, an effective subject classification for internet bookstores is suggested to provide a better subject access.

The study acknowledges the need for classification systems in arts and cultural education. The study constructs a faceted classification system for this domain based on systematic methods. The study utilized iterative collaboration between domain experts and classification system developers. The classification system consists of 13 main facets and terms. The classification system has values to manage information resources effectively and efficiently. It is also beneficial for reducing cultural gaps in arts and cultural education as well as providing an information gateway for users.
