A Study on the Han-Un Decimal Classification (한은도서분류법에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigated the background of the first and revised editions of the Han-Un Decimal Classification(HUDC), and analyzed their relationships to and influences on other major related classification systems. HUDC was compiled in 1954 and revised in 1981. HUDC was influenced by NDC in most classes of main classes and mnemonic schedules, and influenced by KDCP in the classes Religion, Language and Literature.

An Analysis of the Literature Sources of Sikuquanshuzongmoktiyao (『사고전서총목제요』 문헌 출처의 분석)

  • This study was conducted with a view to investigating and analyzing classification and types of literature sources of Sikuquanshuzongmutiyao and the results of this study are as follows. First, the literature sources of Sikuquanshuzongmutiyao were classified mainly into five types including national version, provincial version, individual version, public official version, and societal distribution version. Second, court and Emperor's version was classified as national version, while literatures collected from state and province were classified as provincial version. Third, each of individual version and public official version, which were not clearly differentiated from each other due to their being named private version, were distinctively and separately classified. They were classified into individual version if associated by province name and book owners' names and into public official version if associated by public post names and public official's name. Fourth, societal distribution version included distributed and purchased versions in the society of those days. Fifth, in terms of the number of literature listed in all descriptions of Sikuquanshu, provincial version, national version, individual version, public official version, and societal distribution version were more found in the descending order. Sixth, it was found out that causes are being a little more stressed in the description of reference names of Sikuquanshuzongmutiyao through 1) public post names on public official version, 2) company names on private version, and 3) names of societal distribution version instead of sales version.

Feature Analysis of Chinese Library Classification(5th Edition) (중국도서관분류법 제5판의 특성 분석)

  • The Chinese Library Classification(CLC) is the most widely used national standard classification system in China. Since the first edition of CLC in 1975, the 5th edition of CLC was published in 2010. It was the result of an average of 9 years of revision for each edition. This study investigated CLC focusing on the formational background and developmental process of CLC, and characteristics and revision details of CLC's 5th edition. Because Korea has been close cultural relationship with China for a long time, this study will provide implications on Korean Decimal Classification(KDC) development.

A Study of the Classification of Korean Music Materials (한국음악자료 분류에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an idealistic scheme for the classification of Korean music. The ideal classification of Korean music should cover as much knowledge and materials of Korean music as possible. In this study, therefore, Korean music, Korean musicology and music materials were examined first as the backgrounds. Then classification schedules for Korean music including 679 Korean music of KDC were selected, and their expansion aspects and the problems were analyzed. The conditions and the possibility of developing an ideal classification schedule of Korean music were sought through reanalyzing the problems found in these existing classification schedules. As the result of this study a new classification schedule of Korean music was proposed.

  • This study aims to compare the 21th edition of Dewey Decimal Classification and the 4th edition of Korean Decimal Classification. Several categories are used for analyzing those classification systems. The purpose of this study was to compare the quality of two schedules with some examples and to analyze important categories of them and to find out the problems of them and also to provide possible suggestions for the improvement of the Korean Decimal Classification System in 21th century.

An Analysis of Theory Use in the Library and information Science Research (문헌정보연구의 이론 활용성 분석)

  • This study analyzed authors' use of theory in 654 articles that appeared in two core library and information science journals during last three decades. In order to analyze degree of theory use of LIS, such as, publication productivity, growth and distribution of theory in subfields. name and origin of theory, usability of each theory, subfields and journals, and so on, content analysis of LIS theories was performed through conceptual and empirical study. For the purpose of this study, we suggested a couple of new analytical methods, so called, ‘Subfield Classification Scheme’ within LIS, and ‘5 Degrees of Theory Use’ model for the first time.

A Study on Expansion of Headings for Digital Trends of Korean Decimal Classification (한국십진분류법의 디지털 관련 항목명 확장전개에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the expansion of headings for digital trends of Korean Decimal Classification. In order to achieve the purpose, this study first analyzed the change process of classification items related to digital resources in DDC and KDC. Second, subject names related to digital in LCSH and Korean National Library Subject Heading were analyzed. Third, comparisons between the items related to digital of DDC 23rd with LCSH and KDC with Korean National Library Subject Heading were conducted. The result of comparative analysis was identified that KDC 6th edition faces with difficulties in reasonable classification because item names related to digital of KDC 6th edition have 11 items. Therefore, the item related to digital has to be expanded to new classification item name and has to add include notes and class here notes in KDC.

  • This study investigated the cases of the domestic classification system and compared and analyzed them with the academic standard classification system to derive future improvement directions. The direction of future improvement of the academic standard classification system presented based on this is as follows. First, it seems necessary to clearly guarantee the operation of the classification system as a law for the continuous development of the academic standard classification system. Second, it is necessary to improve it to a comprehensive classification principle that satisfies both current issues and global universality so that domestic and foreign data can be collected and compared smoothly by producing a wide-ranging classification system. Third, it is necessary to select a clear revision cycle of the academic standard classification system, and it seems appropriate to proceed with the revision every five years in order to reflect the academic field across a vast field. Currently, research on such a domestic classification system is insufficient, and such investigations are continuously conducted in the future, requiring continuous interest and research on the domestic classification system.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the potential use of the theme collection as a new classification method that reflects the interest of users in terms of classification and categorization. For this purpose, the background of the theme collection was identified based on the discussion of the library resource organization and the introduction of the curation service of bookstore. In addition, based on case analysis, which is building the theme collection, concrete concepts and characteristics of theme collection are derived. Based on the above discussion, the classification and categorization characteristics of public library themes collections were analyzed, and the characteristics and functions as a classification were compared with other categories relatively. Finally, the utility and applicability of the theme collection is presented and it is based on the discussions about the user-centered classification system design of the library in the future.

Automatic Classification of Academic Articles Using BERT Model Based on Deep Learning (딥러닝 기반의 BERT 모델을 활용한 학술 문헌 자동분류)

  • In this study, we analyzed the performance of the BERT-based document classification model by automatically classifying documents in the field of library and information science based on the KoBERT. For this purpose, abstract data of 5,357 papers in 7 journals in the field of library and information science were analyzed and evaluated for any difference in the performance of automatic classification according to the size of the learned data. As performance evaluation scales, precision, recall, and F scale were used. As a result of the evaluation, subject areas with large amounts of data and high quality showed a high level of performance with an F scale of 90% or more. On the other hand, if the data quality was low, the similarity with other subject areas was high, and there were few features that were clearly distinguished thematically, a meaningful high-level performance evaluation could not be derived. This study is expected to be used as basic data to suggest the possibility of using a pre-trained learning model to automatically classify the academic documents.
