  • The researcher examined the relationship between dating violence and drinking behaviors. Study participants included 440 Korean College students(184 males and 256 females) currently involved in heterosexual dating relationships. Participants' ages ranged from 17 to 30(M=20.08, SD=1.89). Questionnaires and psychological tests used included: Straus' Conflict Tactics Scale, Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test(AUDIT), Cooper's Revised Drinking Motives Questionnaire(DMQ), and Index of Family Alcohol Use. Research designs were 2(gender) × 2(experience of inflicting dating violence), i.e. 2-way MANOVAs. Results suggest students who drink one or more times a week are more likely to commit acts of violence toward their dating partners than students drinking less often. The study revealed males tend to drink with higher social, enhancement, conformity and coping motives than females. The study also showed that students inflicting dating violence drank with higher coping motives than students who did not. Males showed more hazardous, dependent and harmful drinking patterns than females. Also, students who had inflicted dating violence showed a higher degree of these characteristics (hazardous, dependent and harmful drinking patterns) along with a greater family history of alcohol use than participants who had not inflicted dating violence. The findings showed significant 2-way interactions in dependent and harmful drinking patterns. Simple main effect analysis revealed that differences in dependent and harmful drinking patterns in males are more significant than the same differences in females.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among drinking motivation, daily stress and problem drinking behavior, and to identify the influencing factors of problem drinking behavior in female university students. The participants were 259 female students in university. The data was collected for 1 months from Oct. 28 to Nov. 28, 2013 in a university-located Y city. Questionnaires were used to measure the levels of the drinking motivation, daily stress, and problem drinking behavior. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, stepwise regression, and the IBMSPSS/WIN 19.0 program. The predicting factors for problem drinking behavior were drinking motivation, type of residency and smoking. The variables explained the problem drinking behavior by 35.7%. A survey of the various influencing factors of problem drinking behavior will be required and a drinking reduction program for female university students is needed.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the significant predictors of drinking problem among college students attending health and welfare department. A total of 538 college students attending health and welfare department were selected through convenient sampling. Data were collected using self-reporting questionnaires, which were constructed to include depression, anxiety, abstinence self-efficacy, and drinking behavior. SPSS 18.0 was used for data analysis and descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson Correlation coefficients, and multiple regression were done. Drinking problem was positively correlated to the depression and anger while negatively correlated to the abstinence self-efficacy. The significant predictors of drinking behavior were sex, grade, anxiety, and abstinence self-efficacy. The result of this study suggest that drinking problem prevention program should consider improving self management skills by effective management of negative emotions along with enhancing self-efficacy as a cognitive strategy.

In group of problem drinking, the result indicated the positive correlation between problem drinking and sensory processing feature (r=.195). Conclusion : Problem drinking had significant relationship with sensory sensitivity. Therapists should understand the features of college students with problem drinking. It would be desirable to develop a proper evaluation and intervention programs for these people.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of alcohol drinking motivation on the drinking behaviors of female college students. It is necessary to examine the drinking behavior of female college students not only for their academic performance and health status but also for future reproduction concerns. The subjects of this study included 296 college students in their 20s. Research data was analyzed using SPSS 24.0 and AMOS 22 statistical programs. Results of this study found academic and human relationships had the greatest effect on the stress level of female college students. In addition, the perception of drinking was more influential on the drinking problem, and female college students who perceived anxiety through the drinking problem tried to change the behavior of drinking. Also, the perception of drinking by the influence of alcohol was more significant than that of drinking by college students who perceived anxiety through drinking problem. Second, if drinking is beneficial in the internal or external motivation of the individual, it maintains drinking behaviors and changes the behavior of drinking when experiencing the problem of drinking. Through these results, we aim to contribute to the reduction of the negative risk of alcohol by understanding the drinking preference of female college students and examining the drinking culture according to drinking motives.

  • A new era of research has focused on examining the growth of change in drinking problems among the elderly. Thus, the purpose of the present study was two fold: (1) to investigate trajectories of drinking problems(CAGE) among the Korean elderly(age$${\geq_-}65$$); and (2) to identify the predicting factors for the intercept and the slope of alcohol problems using multi-level growth curve model. Data come from three waves(1st wave(2006)~3rd wave(2008) of the Korea Welfare Panel(KWP) study. The results indicated that the levels of drinking problems decreased over time and that age, gender, marital status, religion, poverty, self-rated health, and social relationship satisfaction were associated with the baseline CAGE. Further analysis showed that social relationship satisfaction affected the declining slope of drinking problems over time. Specifically, among those who satisfied social relationship, there was a sharp decline of CAGE over time. Overall findings highlight the importance of developing and implementing effective alcohol prevention programs for the elderly in the community settings to mitigate the harmful effects of various psycho-social stressors. Especially, programs to maintain and form healthy social support network are suggested as critical interventions for prevention as well as recovery of alcohol problems in late life.
