The purpose of this study is to ascertain pattern design element in traditional palaces among those in the neighboring three nations of East Asia, notably Korea, China and Japan. The basic assumption underlying this study is that these northeastern Asian states have been developed a unique inter-cultural ties over long periods of time in history, culminating in their respective design cultures. Undoubtly the ultimate goal to be pursued, by so doing, has to be inquiry into the identical prototype of Korean pattern design element. In the West, the pattern is appreciated by an aesthetic level, but the East Asian pattern is a symbolic alphabet deeply rooted in religious and folk beliefs. The difference of the respective country comes from the expression style of the pattern the Chinese express the magnificent pattern with various color, the Korean do the moderate pattern with harmonious color with the nature and the Japanese do the stylized pattern with the material color. To sum up similarities and dissimilarities among the design element in traditional palaces of Korea, China, and Japan is as the following : It is to be noticed that the mainly common characteristics of the artistic design are 'naturalism', 'harmonious ideas 'and 'confucianism'. But the representation style of the design element is differed from the country.

The Gaya Period is the period in which the nations of Gaya had existed in the Gimhae area. The term 'The Period of the Three Nations', which is widely used, is inappropriate because in ancient Korea, Gaya also existed besides Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla. This term should be corrected for the accurate reconstruction of the history of ancient Korea. Of course, the term 'The Gaya Period' cannot replace 'The Period of the Three Nations'. It just means the period in which the nations of Gaya existed. The Gaya Period refers to the period of about 600 years from about the first century, in which several nations of Gaya began to appear in the Gyeongsangnamdo area, through the falls of Daegarak of Kimhae in 532 A.D. and Daegaya of Goryeong in 562. When doing this, there should be no distortion of the original form of the relics. With the application of traditional techniques and excellent relics, it is believed that it helps to create the high added values by putting culture and tourism together with the development of various designs of cultural goods. What find the motive of new design from Korean traditional cultural inheritance and symbolize it visually is to create a new design of Korean style into the harmony of shape and aesthetics by harmonizing past design and modern one, to discover the value of the future, and to make a new traditional culture. This study is to find the motive of design from Korean traditional pattern and character of the twelve horary signs, to develop unique Korean style character by studying character to cause novel and refined sense and interest through the mix of traditional image and modern one, and to propose a plan to apply in various and practice the Korean style character to modern design. In addition, the purpose of this study is to discover the identity of Korean style from foreign culture by presenting identity and originality with our peculiar cultural elements as well as to develop the visual effect and character of traditional pattern, and to have national competitiveness with Korean style design from the world market of the future.

A major factor in making current hospital gowns is how to manage patients from the standpoint of hospitals. This shows that hospital gowns have not been considered as an apparel for a specific purpose with a design that considers the psychological composure of patients. This study, along with a meticulous analysis of the pattern design of domestic hospital gown suggests a design philosophy that can be of emotional help to patients. The analysis of hospital gowns in terms of motif is that the corporate identity of the hospital in question, along with the lettering symbolizing the hospital is conspicuous. The motif shown in the pattern also has a brightness contrast and two-way pattern. This study suggests hospital gown patterns as follows. First, on the basis of color dynamics, utilize repetition arrangement, camaieu arrangement and faux camaieu arrangement. Second, make use of warm colors in order to enhance trust between patients and medical staff. Last, use green color as a dominant color for the hospital to be felt of as a convenient space. Utilizing these three factors in the future design of hospital gowns will assist in the development of new hospital gowns that render a psychological composure.

The emotion and culture of an age are reflected through several mediums. The special quality and generality are discovered through household utensils used in everyday life specially. This paper was intended as proceeding study for brand development with national empathic relationship. In this article, we were here concerned with symbolism and features for stories of traditional pattern on ancestral common household utensils, and considered about development possibility by brand of tradition pattern. As analysis for symbolism of traditional pattern, re-sorting and classifying pattern, meaning, symbol and stories of pattern based on 'Blessing notion' were set. It was found from the analysis that meaning and symbol of traditional pattern were set up and stories for them were excerpted. This study defines tradition pattern classified based on 'Blessing notion' as '8 Blessing pattern', and investigated development possibility and derivative value of it. We discovered through this study that 'Blessing patterns' function as communicator, have 4 abilities in sympathy with brand paradigm, and have 6 elements of brand identity. Furthermore, 'Blessing Patierns' have some derivative functions; cognitive intension, expression, loyalty, differentiation and symbol. This research will become basis of study for brand development having 'Empathic relationship' and foundation of 'Blessing brand' that is available to be umbrella and super brand. A further direction of this study will be to make 'Blessing brand series' and to create culture of it. We hope Korean brand market goes a step further through our studies

This study aims to suggest a bag design focusing on the symbol of Bo patterns by developing a pattern-based textile which forms a Korean design with a modern sense of beauty as well as following the conventions of traditional cultures, a design which is based on the previous study on formative characteristics of Bo patterns. That is, seven pieces of motifs are considered as proper patterns that have a symbol suitable for the materials of bags, showing their individual beauty well. This includes Horomum (longevity and prosperity of desendants), Banjangmum (eternity and samsara), Jeonbomum (treasure and luck), Seobomum (innate good fortune), Bangseungmum (it means that things don't break in harmony with one another), Bomum (embroidered patches for royal family representing justice), and Seogakmum (blessed life). With these seven motifs, we developed textile patterns and printed them through DTP. Then, we created a fashion bag design with a high quality using durable canvas fabrics. Therefore, a fashion bag with the Bo patterns symbol has a propitious symbol designed with a propitious shape, not to mention its formative beauty. It is expected to have value as a fashion art item by being redesigned for benevolent patterns with a modern image.

With the basis of objective truth by the subjective sensibility and the Rock art's history and the molding the Rock arts image motive, the conclusion like this; The first, Rock art express the imagination variety as symbols of abundance, fecundity, stable lift's present mourning and absolute respect and the spirit. The second, the new motives are developed by making formative images with deeply understanding essential side in the Rock arts. With this, the pattern is repeated with making motive's repeat units and the new pattern is developed by 45-angle iteration. These cultural products were used to produce necktie, scarf, and clothing making commonly efficient use in actual life- with 3D simulation. Through developing Rock art pattern, it is great the possibility of development for expressing Korea images with making an excavation. A competitive design as to the international period can be developed with applying to the variety department-cultural products development.
