A Study on the Pattern Segmentation and Classification in Specially Documentated Imaged (제한된 문서 영상에서 패턴 분절과 구분 처리에 관한 연구)

  • In order to design the automatic processing system of image document, the pattern segmentation of image document and classification methods are presented. The contour extraction using first order differential operator of Gauassian distribution fucntions, the image segmentation using the chain code, and the pattern classication using the second order moments and two=dimensional Rf distance(in transform domain) are implemented. The resuts applied in specially documantated image shows to classify the characters, fingerprints, seals etc well. And the utility of the used algorithms is verified.

  • 카메라 모바일 폰이 대중화됨에 따라 이제 더 이상 음성 전달 기기로서가 아닌 정보 조작 및 정보 전달 기기로서의 기능이 더욱 중요해졌다. 때문에 이러한 욕구를 충족 시켜주기 위해서는 적시 적소에 정보를 활용할 수 있는 오프라인 문자 인식 시스템이 필요하게 되었다. 하지만, 오프라인 문자 인식 시스템은 카메라를 통해 입력된 영상 중에는 순수 문자 영상뿐만 아니라 배경 이미지나 잡음을 포함한다. 특히, 그림과 함께 삽입 되어져 있는 명함과 같은 텍스트 문서 같은 경우, 삽입되어져 있는 그림 때문에 오인식의 문제가 발생 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 카메라를 통해 입력되는 문서 영상을 문자와 배경 그림을 분리하여 효과적으로 잡음을 제거하는 방법을 제안하였다.

  • We constructed a full-text retrieval system for the scanned Hangul document images. The system consists of three parts; preprocessing, recognition, and retrieval components. The retrieval algorithm uses recognition results up to k-ranks. The algorithm is not only insensitive to the recognition errors, but also has the advantage of user-controllable recall and precision. For the objective performance evaluation, we used the scanned images of the Journal of Korea Information Science Society provided by KISTI. The system was shown to be practical through theevaluationofrecognitionandretrievalrates.

  • 기계 인쇄된 문서 영상에서 주제어를 탐색하는 문제는 여러 응용 분야에 필수적인 핵심 기술이지만 수작업 또는 OCR 소프트웨어를 이용하여 텍스트로 변환하는 방법은 많은 비용 때문에 한계를 가지고 있다. 요즘 영상 형태로 원문을 저장하는 경우가 많으므로 본 논문은 영상-기반 매칭을 통한 검색 방법을 채택하였다. 문자 또는 단어 매칭에서 가장 중요한 요소가 특징인데 본 논문에서는 디지털도서관과 같이 매칭 대상 단어가 수천만∼수십억에 달하는 대용량 한글 문서 검색에 이용될 수 있도록 비교적 간단히 추출할 수 있고 차원수 조절이 용이한 4방향 프로파일 특징을 이용하는 빠른 검색 방법을 제안한다. 실험결과 8-차원 정도의 간단한 특징으로도 의미 있는 검색 성능을 얻을 수 있음을 보였다.

  • The human knowledge has been integrated mainly through the text documents. The computer technologies changed the way of production and deliverly of the documents from analog to digital. During the paradigm shift, a serious problem must occur due to a large gap between the old contents and newly generated contents. This paper reviews some methods to reduce the gap for the text document image contents.

  • 난독증 학습장애를 일으키는 주요 증상인 광과민성증후군을 완화시키는 보조도구로써 컴퓨터에서 사용할 수 있는 가상 색 오버레이를 구현하고 사용성을 평가하였다. 구현 결과를 한글 문서, e-book, 웹 문서 및 동영상에 적용한 결과 한글 문서나, e-book에서는 적용에 문제가 없었으나, 링크와 텍스트 박스를 다수 포함하는 웹 문서나 그래픽 객체를 마우스로 드래그해야 하는 게임 응용과 동영상 적용에서는 보완이 요구된다. 본 연구에서 개발된 도구는 난독증 학습장애인이 일반 전자문서와 e-book을 위주로 한 컴퓨터 학습에 사용할 수 있다.

Improvement of SPIHT-based Document Encoding and Decoding System (SPIHT 기반 문서 부호화와 복호화 시스템의 성능 향상)

  • In this paper, we present a document image compression system based on segmentation, Quincunx downsampling, (5/3) wavelet lifting and subband-oriented SPIHT coding. We reduced the coding time by the adaptation of subband-oriented SPIHT coding and Quincunx downsampling. And to increase compression rate further, we applied arithmetic coding to the bitstream of SPIHT coding output. Finally, we present the reconstructed images for visual comparison and also present the compression rates and PSNR values under various scalar quantization methods.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive binarization algorithm which is highly effective for a degraded document image including printed Hangul and Chinese characters. Because of the attribute of character composed of thin horizontal strokes and thick vertical strokes, the conventional algorithms can't easily extract horizontal strokes which have weaker components than vertical ones in the degraded document image. The proposed algorithm solves the conventional algorithm's problem by adding a vertical-directional reference adaptive binarization algorithm to an omni-directional reference one. The simulation results show the proposed algorithm extracts well characters from various degraded document images.

  • Digital documents takes place of paper (off-line) documents, because of the advantages of digital (on-line) documents: supply of information using dynamic contents and good to communize. However, users prefer paper documents to digital documents with the advantages of paper documents: inexpensive, handy to carry, and good to read. Therefore, for providing advantages of digital documents to users who prefer paper documents, many laboratories study about methods which augment digital documents to paper documents. In this paper, we propose the Hybrid Documents Authoring Tool (HDAT), which can insert, delete, and modify on-line information to the off-line. The proposed system is a unified authoring tool for reading and writing of on-line information. And we provide the most natural environment to users using computer vision technology without additional devices such as markers or patterns to retrieve documents. As shown by experimental results, we make sure that our proposed system has high usability and good efficiency on various environments through we measure the low-level of system requirement.

Document Image Layout Analysis Using Image Filters and Constrained Conditions (이미지 필터와 제한조건을 이용한 문서영상 구조분석)

  • Document image layout analysis contains the process to segment document image into detailed regions and the process to classify the segmented regions into text, picture, table or etc. In the region classification process, the size of a region, the density of black pixels, and the complexity of pixel distribution are the bases of region classification. But in case of picture, the ranges of these bases are so wide that it's difficult to decide the classification threshold between picture and others. As a result, the picture has a higher region classification error than others. In this paper, we propose document image layout analysis method which has a better performance for the picture and text region classification than that of previous methods including commercial softwares. In the picture and text region classification, median filter is used in order to reduce the influence of the size of a region, the density of black pixels, and the complexity of pixel distribution. Futhermore the classification error is corrected by the use of region expanding filter and constrained conditions.
