The goal of this study was to investigate the diversity of wild yeasts from the waters and soils of Haegeumgang in Gyungsangnam-do, and Namdaecheon and Geumsancheon in upstream of Geumgang, Korea and to characterize any previously unrecorded wild yeast strains. In total, 52 strains comprising 22 different species of wild yeasts were isolated from 35 samples obtained from Haegeumgang. Forty three and sevent nine wild yeast strains were isolated from 90 samples taken from Namdaecheon and Geumsancheon, respectively. Among the total 174 isolated wild yeast strains, 4 strains, i.e., Exobasidium rhododendri HGG10-5 (NNIBR2022633FG1), Udeniomyces pyricola NDC29-1 (NNIBR2022633FG2), Diddensiella caesifluorescens GSC2-2 (NNIBR2022633FG5) and Pichia scaptomyzae BAC2-3 (NNIBR2022633FG4) were previously unrecorded yeasts were oval or spherical in shape, only Pichia scaptomyzae BAC 2-3 formed ascospores. Three strains with the exception of Udeniomyces pyricola NDC 29-1 grew well in vitamin-free medium and Exobasidium rhododendri HGG 10-5 grew well in YPD medium containing 10% NaCl. All four novel strains assimilated fructose, lactose, raffinose, starch and xylose.
This study was carried out to investigate the changes of water quality, the pollutant loading by population, livestock, and land use at the Namdae-cheon in Keum river districts. Water samples were taken at the four sites of watershed, the nutrients of which were analyzed periodically from July, 1995 to April, 1998. Content of nutrients in water samples ranged from 1.8 to 5.8 mg/L for total nitrogen, from 0.01 to 0.08 mg/L for total phosphorus and from 0 to 0.007 mg/L for ortho-phosphate respectively. Nitrogen loading by pollutant unit was investigated 550.4 ton/yr as 358.1 ton/yr by livestock, 129.3 ton/yr by land use and 63.0 ton/yr by population. Phosphorus loading by pollutant unit was investigated 79.1 ton/yr as 60.6 ton/yr by livestock, 5.2 ton/yr by land use and 13.3 ton/yr by population. The loading of measured pollutant was investigated 452.5 ton/yr of nitrogen and 5.4 ton/yr of phosphorus in Namdae-cheon watershed.
This study simulated flood inundation each frequency rainfall using GIS spatial information and FLUMEN model for part of Muju-Namdae Stream. To create geomorphology for the analysis of flood inundation, Triangle Irregular Network(TIN) was constructed using GIS spatial interpolation method based on digital topographic map and river profile data, unique data source to represent real topography of the river areas. And also flood inundation was operated according to the levee collapse to consider extremely flood damage scenarios. As the analysis of result, the inundation area in the left levee collapse showed more high as 3.13, 3.69, and 4.17 times comparing with one of right levee for 50, 100, and 200 year frequency rainfall and showed 1.00, 2.15, and 3.34 times comparing with one of right levee in the inundation depth with over 1.0 meter, which can cause casualties. As the analysis of inundation area of the inundation depth with over 1.0 meter, which can cause casualties in left levee collapse, it increased more high as 263% and 473% when 50 year frequency change into 100 and 200 year frequency. Also As the analysis of inundation area of the inundation depth with over 1.0 meter in right levee collapse, it increased high as 123% and 142% when 50 year frequency change into 100 and 200 year frequency. Especially, the inundation area of the inundation depth with 3.0~3.5m showed more high as 263% and 489% when 50 year frequency change into 100 and 200 year frequency. It is expected that flood inundation map of this paper could be important decision making data to establish land use planning and water treatment measures.

This study aims to assess the slope stability variation of Jeonbuk drainage areas by RCM model outputs based on A1B climate change scenario and infinite slope stability model based on the previous research by Choi et al.(2013). For a large-scale slope stability analysis, we developed a GIS-based database regarding topographic, geologic and forestry parameters and also calculated daily maximum rainfall for the study period(1971~2100). Then, we assess slope stability variation of the 20 sub-catchments of Jeonbuk under the climate change scenario. The results show that the areal-average value of safety factor was estimated at 1.36(moderately stable) in spite of annual rainfall increase in the future. In addition, 7 sub-catchments became worse and 5 sub-catchments became better than the present period(1971~2000) in terms of safety factor in the future.
The purpose of this study is to establish a system to evaluate the ecological soundness of the Geum river basin. The study target area is 14 sub-watersheds of the Geum river basin. For the selection of indicators to ensure transparency and consistency of the evaluation indicators, the ecological soundness indicators were secured by using the indicator adjustment method derived in consideration of the intrinsic weight change characteristics between indicators. The index with the greatest impact on the final composite index was identified as the index of the aquatic ecology among the water quantity, water quality, aquatic ecology, and habitat-riparian environment dimensions. As a result of analyzing the ecological health index of the river, the watershed upstream of the dam (based on the Daecheong -dam) was evaluated to be in relatively good condition until 2014 compared to the base year(2008), and the watershed downstream of the dam was evaluated to be in a poor condition. The annual trend of changes in the ecological soundness index on an annual basis is as follows. In the case of Yongdamdam, Yongdamdamdownstream, Bocheong-chun, Daechungdam, Daechungdamdownstream, and Nonsancheon, although there are differences by time period, the soundness index is in declining. On the other hand, Mujunamdaecheon, Yeongdongcheon, and Gapcheon were evaluated to have improved soundness, while Chogang, Daechungdamupstream, Mihocheon, Gongjugeumgang, and Geumgangestuary were evaluated to deteriorate again after soundness was improved.
Freshwater soundness can be broadly divided into the health of river ecosystems and social services for human water use, that is, water welfare. In this study the ecological soundness and water welfare index of rivers were calculated, and the freshwater comprehensive soundness was analyzed using the quadrant model for 14 basins in the Geum River basin. As for the ecological soundness of the river, the area upstream of the dam (based on Daecheong Dam) was evaluated as 'good', and the area downstream of the dam was evaluated as 'bad'. On the other hand as for water welfare, the area downstream of the dam with a large population was in a relatively 'good' condition, and the area upstream of the dam had a relatively 'poor' level of water welfare. In terms of freshwater comprehensive soundness, it was found that the basins of Mujunamdaecheon, Bocheongcheon and Daecheongdam showed good ecological soundness and water welfare, and the Geumganggongju, Nonsancheon and Geumganhagueon basins were all poor. The Gapcheon basin showed good results in 2014 due to continuous investment and systematic management. Therefore, it is necessary to find ways to utilize it for other watersheds through benchmarking.
