A Remote Dimming Control for the Electrodeless Lamps Using the 2.4 GHz RF Communications (2.4 GHz 무선통신을 이용한 무전극 형광램프 조광제어)

  • This paper presents a remote dimming control method for the electrodeless lamps using 2.4 GHz RF communication. Since the proposed dimming method are implemented with a simplest open loop control using ISM band HF modem and low cost MCUs, and the remote controller has just several functions such as On/Off and duty ratio increasing/decreasing. It can be made with low cost. In this paper, the detailed digital logics of the proposed remote dimming control are described and the experimental results are presented.

  • An experiment was carried out to evaluate the emotion and sensibility evoked from the different color temperatures(CCT) of electrodeless HID (ELHID) lamp. For this purpose, three ELHID lamps and a metal halide lamp were used as the experimental light sources and thirty Korean adjectives related to the lighting affectiveness were selected for the evaluation. The results showed that ELHID lamps induced different sensibilities according to their color temperature. In particular, 6500 K ELHID was similar to metal halide which has the CCT of 5600 K in the evaluation. Based on the results, we suggested some Korean adjectives and their corresponding English ones which are thought to be suitable for the verbal descriptions of ELHID lamps.

  • This paper describes a power supply of a CW magnetron for driving a electrodeless plasma lamp. The proposed power supply consists of a power factor controller, a series resonant ZVS half bridge inverter, a high voltage leakage transformer, and two IGBT drives. From the simulation results, it was confirmed that the proposed circuits can control the input power of the magnetron up to 33.3[%] linearly by adjust driving frequency of the inverter.

  • In recent, there have been several developments in lamp technology that promise savings in electrical power consumption and improved quality of the lighting space. Above all, the advantage of ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamp is the removal of internal electrodes and heating filaments that are a light-limiting factor of conventional fluorescent lamps. Therefore, the life time of ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamps is substantially higher than that of conventional fluorescent lamps and last up to 60,000 hours and is intended as a high efficacy replacement for the incandescent reflector lamp in many applications. In this paper, maxwell 3D finite element analysis program (Ansoft) was used to obtain electromagnetic properties associated with the coil and nearby structures. The electromagnetic emitting properties were presented by D simulation software operated at 250KHz and some specific conditions. Photometric characteristic of the ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamp were investigated using LS-100 lightmeter and TA-0510 thermometer respectively.

  • In this paper, we have investigated the inductive voltages, currents, frequencies of output line of electrodeless fluorescent lamp system as an surge is supplied and have analyzed the surge characteristics as an phase alteration of input voltage with an surge suppling. A result os measurement is that the inductive over-voltages(H-PE, N-PE) on output line of electrodeles fluorescent lamp system showed more high than inductive overvoltages of H(hot)-N(neutral) line. Therefore, designer of system will lay emphasis on an protective circuit with considening an overvoltage(H-PE, N-PE) or phase of input voltage.

  • The RF inductive discharge or inductively coupled plasma (ICP) continues to attract growing attention as an effective plasma source in many industrial applications, the best known of which are plasma processing and lighting technicology. Although most practical ICP operate at 13.56 [MHz]and 2.65 [MHz], the trend to reduce the operating frequency is clearly recognizable from recent ICP developments. In an electrodeless fluorescent lamp, the use of a lower operating frequency simplifies and reduces cost of rf matching systems and rf generators and can eliminate capacitive coupling between the inductor coil and plasma, which could be a strong factor in wall erosion and plasma contamination. In this study, the configuration of ferrite and fixture which operates at the frequency of 2.65[MHz]was discussed as functions of the ferrite thickness and distance by using the electromagnetic simulation software (Maxwell 2D).

  • In this paper, an application of the ZVT-PWM(zero-voltage-transition) boost converter, which has great advantage on miniaturization and high power density, to the power factor correction circuit of the EFL(electrodeless fluorescent lamp) inverter is studied. The operation principles of the converter are described to identify the power factor correction characteristic of the inverter. Experimentally obtaining the high power factor above 0.99, it is verified that the power factor correction of the EFL inverter successfully achieved.

  • An electric power efficiency of electrodeless fluorescent lamp has big relative property of gas in lamp, gas pressure, lamp formation, ingredients of magnetic substance and shape and action frequency etc. We used magnetic substance that open self examination material of electrodeless fluorescent lamp antenna. Ferrite that is used in this experiment was Mn-Zn type. We have examined resistance kind, impedance, Q-factor's frequency characteristic by ferrite. Impedance, resistance and capacitance did not show difference in start frequency 2.65 [MHz] but there was difference quantity. We could know Q-factor's difference according to material, and Q-factor's is important part of antenna design.

Ferrite that is used in this experiment was Mn-Zn type. Coill turn was changed from 13th to 15th turn to recognize brightness change of lamp by winding number. Optical equipment that used in an experiment was used to measure brightness (LS-100). When an electrodeless fluorescent lamp was made using and T company's PE22, was it showed the highest brightness. As number of winding is increased the brightness increased, and starting characteristic became good.
