Electron Microscopic Study of Osseointegration between Bone and Smooth Machined Implants (선반가공 임플란트와 골조직의 유착에 관한 전자현미경적 연구)

  • This paper reports that the ultrastructural nature of the interface process between the implants and surrounding bone has been studied after in vivo 1, 4, 8, 12 weeks of implantation of smooth machined implants into rabbit tibias. There was no indication of the fibrous connective tissue formation around the implant that imply intolerance of the bone tissue towards the implant after 1 week of implantation. The regions showing direct bone tissue bonding to the smooth machined implant contained osteoblast activating across the interface in the direction after 4 weeks of implantation. The reaction of a smooth machined implant caused in the first instance formation of an amorphous woven bone, which transformed into a mineralized bone containing collagen fibers. After 8 weeks of implantation, the activities of osteoblast initiated osseointegration forming bone matrix at the interface. During this period, the osteoblast surrounded with a matrix consisting of collagen bundles running in various directions. In the interface area between newly formed bone tissue and implants which has been inserted in rabbit tibias for 12 weeks, the implant and mineralized bone was separated by an amorphous electron dense material layer about $1{\sim}1.5{\mu}m$ in thickness.

  • High Strength Concrete (HSC) has a disadvantage of the brittle failure under fire due to the spalling. The studies on spalling control method of new constructed HSC buildings were performed enough, but the studies on existing buildings are insufficient. The new inorganic refractory mortar is developed in this study. The insulating capacity is enhanced by using light weight fine aggregate and polypropylene (PP) fiber. In results of material test, the thermal conductivity of light weight fine aggregate get lower than general fine aggregate. And in results of column test, the fire resisting time is delayed 20 minutes by using light weight fine aggregate, 10 minutes by increasing finishing depth from 10 mm to 20 mm and 4 minutes by using 0.6 % PP fiber.

Effect of Estimated Availability of NDF Binding Major Minerals in Soybean Sprouts Depending on Cultivation Periods and Sampling Parts (콩나물 재배기간과 부위에 따른 NDF에 결합된 다량 무기질의 추정이용율)

  • This study was performed to evaluate contents and estimated availabilities of major minerals (Ca, P, K, Mg) in soybean sprouts. Two different sampling parts (cotyledon and hypocotyl), and three culture periods (1, 3, and 5 days) were evaluated. Results indicated that Mg (99.11%) from cotyledon for 5 days culture period was significantly higher than Ca (98.34%), P (97.67%), and K (98.70%). Percent average Mg estimated availability of 5 days cultured hypocotyl was also significantly higher than that of Ca (77.79%), P (91.91%), and K (96.80%). Therefore, the current results indicate that decreased Ca estimated availability in hypocotyl was time dependent and the cotyledon may be the better source for the estimated availability of major minerals than the hypocotyl of soybean sprouts because more than 90% of the major minerals was estimated availability.

  • 우리나라의 제지산업은 천연펄프 자급능력이 20% 내외로서 낮은 실정이며 주원료의 7 70% 이상을 수입펄프와 고지에 의존하는 원료수급의 불균형이 심화된 상태이다 .. 1999년도 제지통계에 의하면 골판지 원지로 사용되는 라이너지와 골심지의 연간 생산량이 각각 169만 톤과 88만톤을 점유하여 국내 전체 지류생산량 887만톤의 약 29%를 점하고 있다. 이처럼 국내 제지산업에서 큰 비중을 차지하는 골판지 원지는 주로 국내에서 발생되는 고지를 원료 로 하여 생산되고 있어 환경친화적인 지류라 할 수 있다. 그러나, 국산 골판지 고지( Korean O Old Corrugated Container)의 경우 골판지 고지 이외에 각종 인쇄고지와 기타 산업용지가 혼합된 최하급지로서, 고지 재생 시 여러 가지 많은 제한요소를 지니고 있다. 국산 골판지 고지는 거듭된 재생처리로 인하여 미세분의 함량이 전체 지료의 절반에 달할 만큼 많으며, 아울러 섬유가 각질화됨에 따라 재생처리가 거듭될수록 그러한 미세분의 형성이 더욱 조장 되고 있다. 일반적으로 크기 75µm 이하의 무기질 및 단섬유를 일걷는 미세분은 골판지 원지 의 초지시 습지필의 탈수를 저해하여 생산성을 저하시키는 요인이 되어 왔다. 이러한 문제 를 해결하기 위해 선진국에서는 골판지 고지를 스크린 또는 클리너 둥으로 정선 처리하여 장단섬유를 분급한 다음, 장섬유분을 선택적으로 고해하여 종이의 강도를 향상시키는 기술 이 개발되어 적용돼 왔으나, 이러한 기술은 우리 나라와 같이 장섬유 보다 미세분 함량이 많은 저급의 골판지 고지를 주원료로 삼는 골판지 원지의 강도 개선에 큰 효과를 거둘 수 없는 기술이라고 판단된다. 이는 기존의 섬유 분급 처리는 고급 고지의 경우에는 효과적이 나 저급의 혼합고지를 100% 재활용하여 구성되는 국산 골판지의 생산 시에 적용하기에는 5 50-60%에 이르는 미세분이 포함되어 분리의 대상이 섬유장이 다른 펼프 섬유라기 보다는 미세섬유를 펄프섬유로부터 분리하는 것이 필요하기 때문이다. 이러한 문제점을 극복하기 위해서는 기포의 수력학적 포집작용을 이용하여 고농도의 미세분을 선택적으로 분급시키는 부상부 유 분급처리방법을 적용하였다. 이 방법은 미세분의 농축을 위한 부가적인 처리가 필요치 않으며, 분급에 천공을 이용하지 않기 때문에 분급처리 시 천공의 plugging 문제가 발생되 지 않는다는 장점도 가지고 있다. 미세분 분급을 위한 최적의 부상부유 조건은 장섬유의 응 집을 촉진하면서 미세분은 그러한 응집체에 포함되지 않은 상태로 자유로이 부상하여 걷혀 지는 경우이다. 응집거동을 조절하기 위한 시도로서 부상부유 처리시 유량을 달리한 실험결 과에 의하면 유량이 낮을수록 장섬유 손실이 줄고 미세분이 선택적으로 포집되나 전체 부상 부유 리젝트의 양이 줄어드는 문제점이 있었다. 이에 본 실험에서는 장섬유의 응집에 영향 하는 또 다른 인자로서 지료의 농도를 증가시키면서, 미세분의 부상부유를 촉진시키도록 유 량을 증가시키는 조건으로 부상부유 처리에 의한 미세분 분급효율을 증가시키고자 하였다.

  • Present stadies were carried out to obtain fundermental data for effective management of the soils by investigating the physicochemical characteristics rubber fiber, humification grade and bearing power of peats and muck which were included in Geongdeog series, and Gimje series in Honam area. The results abtained were as follows; 1. Humification grade of peats were about 23, while that of muck soils was about 45-71 and those were higher in Gimje series than Bongnam series. 2. The organic tiers which humification grade was higher were high pH, bulk density, and contents of K, $P_2O_5$, B.S and while were low OM, T-C, T-N, Na, $SiO_2$ and rubbed fiber. 3. In peats and mucks, bulk density, pH, contents of T-N $P_2O_5$ and ash were negatively correlated with rubbed fiber and OM, CEC, T-C, PAC, C/N, C/P were positively correlated with one, while these physicochemical characteristics were oppositely correlated with humification grade. 4. Cone bearing power of each soil tiers was low in every Geongdeog series which had the thick organic tiers and showed poorly drainage and it was the highest in Gimje series which was similar to in organic soils because of its thin organic tiers.

Nutrient Composition and Physicochemical Properties of Korean Taro Flours According to Cultivars (품종별 국내산 토란 분말의 영양성분 및 이화학적 특성)

  • Three varieties of taro flours (Altoran, Josaengjong, and Jaeraejong) were analyzed to evaluate their nutrient composition and physicochemical properties. Moisture contents of the three taro cultivars varied from 5.74-10.30%. Among the three cultivars, Altoran flour had higher protein and fat contents than other cultivars. There were 17 kinds of amino acids in the three taro flours. The major fatty acids in the three taro flours were linoleic acid (46.5-51.4%), palmitic acid (21.7-25.8%), and oleic acid (12.3-18.7%), and two thirds of the total fatty acids were unsaturated fatty acids. Potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, and calcium were the most plentiful minerals in the three taro flours, and the free sugars were glucose, fructose, and sucrose. The total dietary fiber contents of the three taro flours ranged from 12.97 to 17.60%. From these results, Altoran contained a high level of dietary fiber, minerals, essential amino acids, and free sugars. Jaeraejong showed the highest water absorption index. The water soluble index of Altoran was higher than that of the other cultivars. From the differential scanning calorimeter results, the gelatinization temperatures of the three taro flours were $84.98-89.91^{\circ}C$. The pasting temperature of the three taro flours was from 46.77 to $49.30^{\circ}C$ by rapid visco-analyzer. Among these varieties, Josaengjong had the highest peak viscosity and final viscosity, whereas Altoran had the lowest. These taro cultivars are expected to be potential material for application in taro processed foods, due to their gelatination and pasting properties.

Studies on the Nutritional Components of Purple Sweet Potato(Ipomoea batatas) (자색(紫色) 고구마의 영양성분에 관한 연구)

  • Two sweet potato CV.(Ipomoea batatas) were examined, i.e. purple flesh sweet potato(PSP) and light yellow flesh sweet potato(LYSP) which varied in degree of sweetness. On a fresh weight basis, nitrogen free extract in cultivars ranged from $25.73{\sim}26.24%$ and PSP contained more crude fat than LYSP. Total amino acids of PSP and LYSP were 5676.57mg% and 4550.86mg%, respectively. Aspartic acid, serine, alanine and valine were the major components in sweet potatoes. Sulfur-containing amino acids are the first limiting amino acid in PSP. The major fatty acids in PSP and LYSP analyzed by GC were palmitic acid, linoleic acid. The content of the saturated fatty acid was less than that of the unsaturated fatty acid. Carbohydrate contents were $75.43{\sim}79.10%$ and neutral sugars contents were $67.22{\sim}64.85%$(dry wt). Two sweet potato CV. contained the most glucose of all neutral sugars. PSP contained 11.88% for uronic acid, 59.42% for starch. Free sugars of PSP(0.82%) was much less than that of LYSP(2.53%). The contents of thiamin, riboflavin and niacin were similar, and the ascorbic acid contents in PSP and LYSP were 63.4mg% and 48.7mg%(dry wt), respectively. Comparing the mineral content in PSP, K was the greatest element in concentration followed by mg, Ca, Na. The total dietary fiber(TDF) value was 13.43% in PSP, 9.79% in LYSP respectively. The ratio of soluble dietary fiber(SDF) content and insoluble dietary fiber(IDF) content to TDF content for PSP were 57.6%, 42.4%, respectively.

New Micropolymer Technologies for Increased Drainage and Retention for both Wood and Non-Wood Containing Furnishes (목질 및 비목질 함유 지료의 탈수속도와 보류향상을 위한 새로운 마이크로폴리머 기술)

  • The ability to control filler performance and fines retention is vital in the development of both filled and non filled grades, respectively. This is very important when achieving the desired sheet structure necessary to maximize machine performance and end user demands. A narrow balance exists in attaining the desired retention and formation particularly in systems with heavier ash loads and producing paper and paper board on higher speed high shear equipment. A new generation of both cationic and anionic micropolymer technologies has been developed. These water based chemistries are volatile organic compound (VOC) and alkyphenol ethoxylate (APE) free. When these novel micropolymers are applied with linear poly-acrylamide or in conjunction with inorganic microparticle technologies (such as silica or swellable minerals), substantial increases in drainage, fibre retention and ash retention are observed. These improvements have been observed not only in high filled wood and non wood containing grades such as fine paper and super calendared sheets (SCA), but also in low filled newsprint grades. Of particular note is the drainage improvement seen with the application of the cationic micropolymers in unbleached packaging grades with poly-acrylamide.

Nutrient Components and Physicochemical Properties of New Domestic Potato Cultivars (국내산 신품종 감자의 영양성분 및 이화학적 특성)

  • This study examined the nutrient components and physicochemical properties of three new potato cultivars: Gui Valley, Bora Valley, and Gogu Valley, which were acquired from PotatoValley Ltd., and compared them to the Superior cultivar that is widely distributed in food markets. Amino acid, fatty acid, and mineral compositions, as well as total starch, reducing sugar, dietary fiber, vitamin C, and phenolic acid contents were measured. The gelatinization and pasting properties of the potatoes were evaluated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and a rapid visco analyzer (RVA). The three new potato cultivars showed differences for various characteristics compared to the existing Superior cultivar. The Gui valley cultivar has a high potential for processing into items such as French fries or chips, due to its high starch content and low reducing sugar content. Bora valley showed an incredibly high phenolic acid contents, and Gogu valley contained high levels of dietary fiber, minerals, vitamin C, and essential amino acids. Overall, these cultivars are expected to be highly valuable items for develpment and applications of functional food.

Nutrient Composition and Sensory Characteristics of Seokbakji Supplemented with Seafood (수산물을 첨가한 섞박지의 영양성분 분석 및 관능적 특성)

  • We investigated changes in the nutrient compositions of seokbakji supplemented with seafood during storage at $5^{\circ}C$ for 14 days. We added the seafood at a concentration of 10% (w/w) to salted radish and prepared seokbakji samples. Our results showed that the levels of moisture, crude lipids, crude ash, carbohydrates, and crude fibers did not differ markedly among the samples. However, the level of crude protein in seokbakji with added seafood was greater than that in control seokbakji. The highest level of Ca and P was determined in seokbakji supplemented with gizzard shad; the highest level of vitamin $B_2$ was determined in seokbakji supplemented with sandfish, and the highest vitamin C content was determined in seokbakji supplemented with small octopus. Glutamic acid showed the highest content in seokbakji with seafood; further, hydroxyproline was the most abundant free amino acid. The results of sensory evaluation showed higher scores in the overall acceptability of seokbakji with seafood than in control seokbakji.
