  • Thermal Mass Method(TMM) and its accuracy, utilized in the propellant gauging system of KOREA SAT-3, are described in the paper The residual in the fuel tank system of KOREASAT-3 is simulated using TMM based on the KOREASAT-3 data package An accuracy of TMM is calculated using analytical method and compared with the error analysis Monte Carlo methods.

  • This paper discusses the practical issue of the bias estimation of the KOREASAT ground tracking data. First, a batch filter based orbit determination algorithm including the turn around range measurement in addition to the range, azimuth and elevation measurement is presented. Then the estimation performance is analyzed through simulation studies. Additionally, this paper proposes a tracking antenna bias estimation strategies using accurately tuned secondary ground tracking station. Finally the relationship between antenna biases are analyzed to give comprehensive tool for estimation results evaluation.

  • 우리나라 우주기술은 선진국에 비해 초보단계의 수준이나 위성체 구조물 기술, 로켓 구조체 기술 및 위성수신기기 분야 등에서는 상당수준의 기술을 확보하였다. 92년 발사된 실험용 소형과학위성인 "우리별 1호"로 우주개발에 착수한 우리나라는 무궁화위성 1,2호 사업을 통해서 위성통신 시스템 및 관련부품에 대한 요소기술을 확보한 상태이며, 다목적 실용위성 개발사업을 통해서 우주산업 기반기술을 확보한 단계이다. 이번호에서는 오는 12월에 발사예정인 다목적실용위성의 개발과정과 의의에 대해서 알아 보기로 하겠다.

  • The purpose of this paper is to predict Sun Transit Outage phenomenon(Sunout). Sunout had been studied mainly for the case of Geostationary satellite and under the assumption of 'Quiet Sun'. In this paper, we predict sunout phenomenon more precisely for non-geostationary orbit as well as geostationary orbit and specially we considered the degree of solar activity. And we compare the result of the case of C-band and Ku-band. Also the result is applied to the two KoreaSat communication system through calculating the link budget.

A Study of Mid-sized Communication Satellite in Korea (국내 중형 통신위성의 발전 방안)

  • A technology of GEO satellite communications starts from Koreasat program in Korea. Payload equipment of EQM Ku and Ka band transponders had been developed and space-qualified Ka band payload in COMS was successfully launched in June, 2010. For the purpose of military communications, Dehop-Rehop transponder was developed in Koreasat5 as ANASIS system and DAT(Digital Active Transponder) and DCAMP(Digital Channel AMPlifier) transponders are now under development. In this paper, from the study of military satellite communications trend, a direction of military communication satellite is suggested based on the current GEO SATCOM technologies in Korea. Considering the limit of frequency resources, a technology of battlefield adaptive transponder with medium capacity against high moveable jamming tactics would be efficient for the future military SATCOM system. Mid-sized military satellites with frequency hopping and mid-capacity transponders can be a solution of vitalizing the GEO satellite programs.
