Anti-obesity Effects of Genistein in Female Ovariectomy-induced Obese Mice (난소절제로 비만이 유도된 암컷 쥐에서 제니스테인의 항비만 효과)

  • To investigate whether genistein regulates menopause-induced obesity, it was studied the effects of genistein on anti-obesity effects in female ovariectomized (OVX) mice, an animal model of postmenopausal women. 7-week-old female mice (C57BL/6J) were randomly divided into three groups. All the animals received a high fat diet or a high fat diet supplemented with genistein for 8 weeks and variables and determinants of obesity were measured. The OVX mice had significantly higher body weight and adipose tissue mass than sham mice. However, genistein supplementation reduced body weight, adipose tissue mass, and adipocyte size of OVX mice. The OVX mice treated with genistein had significantly lower levels of serum triglycerides and total cholesterol than the vehicle-treated OVX mice. Lipid accumulation in liver was also markedly decreased by genistein in OVX mice. The results suggest that genistein can effectively prevent adiposity, adipocyte phertrophy, and llipid disorders caused by ovariectomy. Moreover, this study may contribute to the alleviation of metabolic syndrome, including obesity and hyerlipidemia in postmenopausal women.

A study on a fast measuring algorithm of wavefront for an adaptive optics system (적응광학시스템의 고속 파면측정 알고리즘에 대한 연구)

  • The measuring resolution and speed for wavefronts are important to improve the performance of an adaptive optics system. In this paper, we propose a fast measuring algorithm with high resolution in the Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor for an adaptive optics system. We designed ground isolated electrical devices whose differential data signals are used to control the deformable mirror and tip/tilt mirror for robust control. The conventional mass centroid algorithm in the Shack-Hartmann sensor to measure wavefront has been widely used and provided good measurement results. In this paper, the proposed fast measuring algorithm for measuring the wavefront combines the conventional mass centroid algorithm with a weighting factor. The weighting factor is a real value estimating the real center of mass in a wavefront spot image. This proposed wavefront measuring algorithm provided fast measurement results with high resolution from experimental tests.

3D Simulation Study of Biped Robot Balance Using FPE Method (FPE 방식을 활용한 이족 로봇 균형 유지 3차원 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • In this study, we investigate balance of a biped robot applying Foot Placement Estimator (FPE) in simulation. FPE method is used to determine a stable foot location for balancing the biped robot when an initial orientation of the robot body is statically unstable. In this case, the 6-DOF biped robot with point foot is modelled considering contact and friction between foot and the ground. For simulation, the mass of the robot is 1 kg assuming the center of robot mass (COM) is located at the center of the robot body. The height from the ground to the COM is 1 m. Robot balance is achieved applying stable foot locations calculated from FPE method using linear and angular velocities, and the height of the COM. The initially unstable angular postures, $5^{\circ}$ and $-5^{\circ}$, of the robot body are simulated. Simulation results confirm that the FPE method provides stable balance of the robot for all given unstable initial conditions.

Study on a Center of Gravity of Polygon as an Enriched Learning Topic for the Gifted in Mathematics (수학 영재의 심화학습을 위한 다각형의 무게중심 연구)

  • In this paper, we consider a center of gravity of convex polygon which could be an enriched topic for the gifted in mathematics(7th grades) and suggested a case that the gifted experienced a center of gravity. Based on properties of Archimedes' center of mass, we define it as a point which make a polygon be in counterpoised with its area and explain how to find that point through using integral calculus or internal division. Then we consider that the gifted would experience various kinds of mathematical thinking and apply diverse ways of problem solving 3s searching for this topic. As this research, the teacher would be able to conduct the gifted with penetration into center of gravity and to let them participate in advanced learning courses which value ma-thematical thinking while they undergo similar experiences such as mathematicians.

HYDROLYTIC DEGRADATION OF DENIAL COMPOSITE RESINS (수종 치과용 복합레진의 가수분해)

  • The composite restorative resins have their insufficient resistance to wear. The subsurface degradation within the restoration is considered to be associated with wear. The aim of this study was to evaluate the resistance to degradation of six commercial composite resins in an alkaline solution. The brands studied were Clearfil APX(Kuraray), Heliomolar(Vivadent), Surefil(Dentsply), TPH(Dentsply), Tetric Ceram(Vivadent), and Z100(3M). Preweighed discs of each brand were exposed 0.1N NaOH solution at $60^{\circ}C$. After 14 days they were removed, neutralized with HCL, washed with water and dried to constant mass at $60^{\circ}C$. Resistance to degradation was evaluated on the basis of the following parameters: (a) mass loss(%) - determined from pre-and post-exposure specimen weights; (b) Si loss (ppm)-obtained from ICP-AE analysis of solution exposed to specimens; and (c) degradation depth$({\mu}m)$ - measured microscopically (SEM) from polished circular sections of exposed specimens. The results were as follows: 1. The mass loss was in descending order by Z100, TC H, S, CL, TPH and in the range of $0.45\sim3.64%$ 2. The degradation layer depth was in descending order by H, Z100, S, TC, TPH, CL and in the range of $10.85\sim73.38{\mu}m$ 3. For the Si concentration, Z100 was the highest of all 4. The highly significant correlation(r=0.81, p<0.05) was observed between mass loss and degradation depth. 5. Under scanning electronmicroscopy, the degradation of connection between resin matrix and fillers was observed 2 weeks after soaking in NaOH solution.

Of the multitude of factors that have been associated with wear, subsurface degradation within the restoration is considered to be one. The aim of this study was to evaluate the resistance to degradation of four commercial composite resins in an alkaline solution. The brands studied were Z100(3M), Clearfil AP-X(Kuraray), Tetric Ceram(Vivadent), Aelit flo(Bisco). Resistance to degradation was evaluated on the basis of the following parameters: (a) mass loss(%) - determined from pre-and post-exposure specimen weights: (b) Si loss(ppm) - obtained from ICP-AE analysis of solution exposed to specimens; and (c) degradation depth(${\mu}m$) - measured microscopically (SEM) from polished circular sections of exposed specimens. The results were as follows: 1. The sequence of the mass loss was in ascending order by AE, EL, TC, Z100. There was statistically significant difference of mass loss between AE, CL group and TC, Z100 group(p<0.05). 2. The sequence of the degree of degradation layer depth was in ascending order by AE, CL, TC, Z100. But there was no statistically significant difference of degree of degradation layer depth between AE and CL(p<0.05). 3. For the Si concentration, Z100 was the highest of all. 4. The correlation coefficient between mass loss and degradation depth was relatively high(r=0.71 p<0.05).

  • MEMS 공정을 이용하여 $SiN_x$를 지지층으로 한 $SiO_2$/Ta/PZT/Pt 의 박막 구조를 가지는 마이크로 켄틸레버를 제작하였다. 켄틸레버의 전기기계적 특성을 LDV (레이저 미소 변위 측정기)를 이용하여 측정하였으며, 이를 통해 전기기계적 거동을 분석하였다. 또한 무게 감지소자로서의 응용을 위해 Au의 증착을 통한 감도를 측정하였으며, streptavidin의 무게를 감지하기 위해 immobilization 공정을 거쳐 thiol 그룹 및 biotin을 표면에 고정화 시킨후 biotin-streptavidin 결합에 의한 전기기계적 신호 분석을 통해 생체 물질의 무게 감지 소자로의 응용을 평가하였다.

The sequence of the Si loss was in descending order by Chrisma, Spectrum, Palpique Estelite, and Filtek P 60. 4. The correlation coefficient between mass loss and degradation layer depth was relatively high(r=0.704, p<0.05). 5. When observed with SEM, destruction of bonding was observed between resin matrix and filler. 6. When observed with CLSM, degradation layer depth of composite resin surface was observed.
