  • This study is to understand the emotional tendency through out the history of architecture and interior design. In this process, a broad range of analysis of the period between Romanticism and Post Modernism will be done to collect historical data and the influence of the social situation. A thorough review and close examination of the 90's architectural trend will reveal the foundation of the concept behind GSD not just as the post-structuralism as a value system of digitalism but also makes easy to understand GSD in space design. In particular, the study will reveal how the ideas of post-structural philosophy has effected the formation of its movement as well as its influence to become the theoretical nutrition for digital architecture. The result of the study will be used as the valuable reference to define 'Emotional Design'(So call 'Gam-Sung Design = GSD) and become the foundation for further investigation on GSD space design in the near future.

  • This study aimed to glean lessons for desirable early childhood physical education programs by contouring the current paradigms on body or physical activities in the area of early education for young children. It also aimed to analyze their postures while participating in daily activities. The research method for analysis of children's postures while doing daily activities was OWAS(Ovako Working Posture Analysing System) which has been extensively used in ergonomics. Components of data analysis have been redesigned on the basis of information gathered from OWAS with the help of ergonomic experts. The results showed different percentages of children's movements according to activities such as whole class meeting, small group activity and outdoor activity. Small group and outdoor activities can be considered the most desirable physical activities not only for cognitive and social development but also for physical development. And it is recommended to reconstruct the quality and nature of whole class meetings in order to coordinate the physical nature of young children.

  • Unlike a still body in a photograph, the concept of time applies to a moving body wearing clothes. Clothes change shape according to movement, and multidimensional formative observation elements are required to perceive this. Thus, the purpose of this research is to develop a system for observing body movements and clothing. This experimental study was designed based on embodiment research. The first stage of the study derived body movement and clothing observation items from theory. In the second stage, 11 fashion personnel participated in experimental research to verify the observation items and identify those that needed correction or supplementation. The results showed that body movement and clothing observation items can be classified as follows: large moving bodies, moving clothes, body and clothes movement, and body and clothes space. The observation system for body movement and clothes presented can be used to construct the formation of moving clothes.

  • This paper proposes a human action recognition scheme to recognize nonverbal human communications automatically. Based on the principle that a human body action can be defined as a combination of multiple articulation movements, we use the method of inferencing stochastic grammars to understand each human actions. We measure and quantize each human action in 3D world-coordinate, and make two sets of 4-chain-code for xy and zy projection plane. Based on the fact that the neighboring information among articulations is an essential element to distinguish actions, we designed a new stochastic inference procedure to apply the neighboring information of hands. Our proposed scheme shows better recognition rate than that of other general stochastic inference procedures. ures.

  • These days, Emotional Design is on the sustainable development through activity study thogh, until now, the study proceed too far with Sensibility Ergonomics applied to SD. However, on this paper, the study would be make progress through GSD that it applied to Verb. For this reason, applied to Emotional Design consideration of theory through JOAN MEYERS-LEVY's papaer titled "The Influence of Ceiling Height", Laban Movement Analysis and Aspect of Semiotics and then judgement of GSD would be make progress through experiment to collection of Emotional Vocabularies and evaluation of body movement. There is a method of analysis by using statistical program such as SPSS 18.0 and it would have validity of analysis. Here is a result of this study. According to heights of ceiling types(2.4M, 3.0M) there are differences between behavior of Figure Attachment, Emotional Vocabularies of the event and Body Movement. While the Figure Attachment has a tendency to restricted scope, CH has a tendency to make attachment within the scope. You could see the Negative Adjective for Emotional Vocabularies at CL and the Positive Adjective ranges at the CH. Basic body movement for passive, 'moving' and 'stretching' as shown at CL more than the CH. For active movement which has purpose, 'moving the weight' and 'stretching' as shown at CH more than at CL.

  • During the modern age, various fields have fundamentally changed from the preconceived ideas of the past. The concept of time-space relationship changed also. E. J. Marey was almost the first one to visualize the movement of animals and people through scientific methods. Frank B. Gilbreth used more precise photographic equipments to develop more accurate and specific body movement diagrams. The emergence of visualization of body movement is not the only product from the scientific field. The new concept of time-space can be easily noticed in modem art, music and dance. In space design, Futurism attempted to represent the dynamism and speed in a sculptural form. On the other hand, there were examples to further investigate the specific analysis of body movements such as 'Scientific Management'. Body movement diagrams are widely used in various projects in contemporary space design. The difference is that now the design process is more integrated with the analysis. The representation of speed and the container of movements are interwoven in a complex manner in which fluid relationship between body and space is possible. Three types can now be considered: Object, Container and Interactivity. This study attempts to analyze brief history of body movement studies and their application for contemporary space design.

  • If we consider the cubism, which newly attempted the avant-garde movement in the mid-19th century, was an experimental movement to feel the space through the human action and observation from various viewpoints at the fixed three-dimensional world, then the futurism was an innovative movement that obtained an ion from continual motions. However, the study about meaning and emotion that correspond with the dis-structuralization era could not have been continuing. Therefore, the goal of this study is to construct an emotional theory and grope a possibility of the way to do through some theoretical investigations and experimental analysis about body movement and emotional expression. For the study method, experiment and analysis have been proceeded based on Miyauji study(1992) which was based on P. Thiel theory that is about direct recognition and empirical study for identical existence or experimentation. As a result of the study, it reached several conclusions. The first, body movement as an emotion that makes meaning is related to the space. The second is that the space is related to the background as an object of body. The last is that body as a creature which becomes the one with spirit in the space makes meaning. We look forward to a possibility of emotional study through the body movement.

  • This paper discusses a human body extraction method for intelligent robot system. The intelligent robot system requires more robust silhouette extraction method because it has internal vibration and low resolution. The new hybrid silhouette extraction method is proposed to overcome this constrained environment. The temporal and gradient information is combined as hybrid silhouette. The motion region model is used to adjust combining parameters in hybrid silhouette. Finally, the experimental results show the superiority of the proposed method.
