  • Dance is an art that includes not only art historical facts, but also a series of processes for dancers' body, choreography, and the creation of entire process of dances and their lives. In other words, dance is the art of embodying the experience and consciousness of the dancer as the subject, and embodying it through the physical body, and therefore, the existing empirical study which relies solely on the literature in the history of dance study is difficult to deliver a complete history. Oral history is a new methodology historical writing that overcomes the limitations of research methods based on literature centered documents. Oral history in the field of dance is that the dancer becomes the subject of the history of dance's narrative. The memory and testimony of a dancer can become a history, complement the missing parts of the documentary record, and amount to analysis and interpretation to attempt the history of dance from various perspectives. The history of dance through oral history analysis thus generates another view from the literature. The oral history is acted as a prism that can explore the sociocultural discourse of the time and the history of dance. As a new academic challenge for the history of dance field, I expect to be able to review the artistic, social, and cultural functions and roles of dance beyond the limit of existing literature-oriented history study and to be able to progress to various the history of dance.

  • The genus Italochrysa Principi in Korea has been recorded with only one species, I. japonica (McLachlan) so far. Here we report that Italochrysa nigrovenosa Kuwayama is recognized for the first time in Korea. Specific description, a key based on diagnostic characters, and adult and genital images of the species are provided.

  • Based on a single specimen (49.9 mm SL) collected from Incheon River estuary, south-western Korea, Gymnogobius cylindricus was described as the first record from Korea as well as the westernmost record of the world. The species is characterized by having a large maxilla extend far beyond posterior margin of eye, dorsal fin with VI-I, 12 rays, anal fin with I, 11 rays, and without dark blotches and dots on lower part of body and caudal fin, respectively. A new Korean name, "Ga-neunsal-mang-dug" is proposed for the species.

  • Eight specimens (330.2~431.3 mm TL) of the family Zoarcidae were collected from the costal waters of the Byeonsanbando, Yellow Sea, Korea. They were identified as a Zoarces elongatus Kner based on the following characters: a dorsal fin with 14~16 notch-shaped spinous rays, irregular 13~16 dark spots in a row along the median body and 126~132 vertebrae. We proposed a new Korean name, 'Mu-jeom-deung-ga-si-chi', for the species.

  • The four specimens of Clariger cosmurus, belonging to the family gobiidae were collected from the southern costal region of Korea, and described as the first record from Korea. The specimens are characterized by having two dorsal fins, a few barbels below the eye, and dark brownish line along lateral body from tip of snout to caudal peduncle. We propose a new Korean name of the genus Clariger, C. cosmurus as respectively Wae-mang-duk sok and Wae-mang-duk, for the species.

  • Four specimens (218.3~234.5 mm SL) of the family Stichaeidae were collected from the coastal water of Kangwon-do, in the middle East Sea of Korea. They are identified as Stichaeus nozawai Jordan and Snyder based on the following characters: posterior end of mouth not reaching posterior margin of eye, lateral line reaching posterior part of the caudal base; 10~13 dorsal spines behind end of lateral line, dorsal fin with oblique dark lines, I, 36~37 anal fin rays. We proposed a new Korean name, 'Keun-nun-jang-gaeng-i', for the species.

  • Four specimens (114.2~134.2 mm SL) of Icelus stenosomus Andriashev, family Cottidae, were collected from Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do, East Sea of Korea. They were identified based on the following characters : a pair of strong spines on occipital region, distinct row of scales on both dorsal and ventral sides of body, vermiculate white lines on dorsal side of body, and small prickled scales scattered sparsely on the head. We propose a new Korean name for the species as a new Korean name : 'Mu-nui-jul-ga-si-hoet-dae'.

  • Two specimens of Upeneus tragula were firstly collected from Jeju Island, Korea. This species is characterized by having pectoral fin rays 13, lateral line 29, first gill rackers 5+14, both lobes of caudal fin with dark bands, ventral part of body with numerous blackish-brown dots, and upper part of first and second dorsal fin dark brown. It is easily distinguished from three other Korean Upeneus species in having both lobes of caudal fin with dark bands (vs. no band in U. sulphureus; only upper lobe with dark bands in both U. moluccensis and U. japonicus). We suggest the new Korean name "Keom-eun-jul-chok-su" for this species.
