This study was conducted twice to investigate egg purchase behavior and perception on animal welfare of Korean consumers. This study included women, who were the main decision makers and caretakers in the household, and men with one-person household. This survey was conducted with by the Computer Assisted Web Interview and Gang Survey methods. On the key considerations factor, the highest response rate was considered to be 'price', and the response rate of considering 'packing date' increased in the second survey. At a reasonable price based on 10 eggs, the response rate was the highest at 53.8% and 42.9% in both the first and second surveys and the appropriate price averages were 2,482 won and 2,132 won, respectively. The highest rate of purchase of egg consumers from 'Large Mart' followed by 'Medium sized supermarket' and 'Chain supermarket'. As for the awareness about animal welfare, the recognition ratio (73.5%) was higher in the result of the second survey than the first. The cognitive period of animal welfare was 59.0% before the insecticide egg crisis and 41.0% thereafter. Regarding whether or not they have ever seen an animal welfare certification mark and an animal welfare animal farm certification mark, 59.6% of respondents said that they saw it for the first time and 37.6% answered that they knew the animal welfare certification mark. On the animal welfare system, the 'free-range' response rate was the highest at 85.8%. The 'free-range' fit response decreased by 34.2%p, while the 'barn' and 'European type' fit response increased by 13.2%p and 24.1%p, respectively. The number of 'I have never seen' and 'I have ever eaten' responses to the recognition and eating experience of animal welfare certified eggs decreased while the number of those who answered 'Have ever seen' and 'Have eaten' increased. The answer of purchasing animal welfare certified eggs at department stores, organic farming cooperatives, and internet shopping malls was higher than that of buying conventional eggs. Of the total respondents, 92.0% were willing to purchase an animal welfare egg before the price was offered, but after offering the prices of animal welfare eggs, the intention to purchase was 62.7%, which was about 30%p lower than before. The reason for purchasing an animal welfare certified egg was the highest score of 71.0% for 'I think it is likely to be high in food safety', and 38.1% for 'I think the price is high' for lack of intention to purchase. In the sensory evaluation of animal welfare eggs, egg color and skin texture of conventional eggs were significantly higher than those of certified welfare eggs (P<0.05), and boiled eggs showed that egg whites of animal welfare certified eggs were more (P<0.05). As a result, the results of this study will contribute to the activation of the animal welfare certification system for laying hens by providing basic data on consumer awareness to animal welfare certified farmers.
Purpose: This study examined the meal-kit consumption practices of adults in their 20s and 30s and analyzed the properties that should be given priority for improvement among the selection attributes to improve the quality of meal-kits. Methods: Statistical analyses were conducted using the SPSS program (ver. 28.0) for χ2-test, t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Duncan's multiple range test, factor analysis, and Importance-Satisfaction Analysis (ISA). Results: Of the 249 subjects surveyed, 85.5% had some experience of purchasing meal-kits, with significantly more females than males (p < 0.01), significantly more married people than single people (p < 0.05), significantly more employed people than unemployed people (p < 0.05). Meal-kits were purchased most frequently for meals (60.6%), from discount stores or supermarkets (44.6%), and priced between 10,000 won and 20,000 won per person (46.9%). The overall satisfaction with meal-kits was 4.1 out of 5.0 points. The frequency of purchases was Korean soup dishes (69.5%), Korean main dishes (47.4%), and Korean street snacks (46.9%). Factor analysis of the meal-kit selection attributes revealed, 4 factors: 'quality of food,' 'packaging and diversity,' 'quality of meal-kit,' and 'convenience and price.' Compared to single-person households, multi-person households placed significantly higher importance on the 'quality of food,' 'packaging and diversity,' and 'quality of meal-kit.' The factor, 'packaging and diversity' were significantly higher in the importance evaluation scores for females (p < 0.01), married people (p < 0.05), and people in their 30s (p < 0.05) among meal-kit consumers. According to the ISA results, a critical aspect that meal-kit manufacturers or sellers should strengthen is 'price.' Conclusion: Meal-kit products will need to be developed for various purposes that offer high value for money that can satisfy the consumers' needs to improve the satisfaction of meal-kit consumers.
Fe$_3$O$_4$ particles, prepared by a sol-gel method, were examined for their structural characteristic, particle shapes and sizes, and their magnetic properties. Two different chemical compositions (using a mol rate Fe$^{2+}$/Fe$^{3+}$ = 1/2 and only Fe$^{2+}$) and 2-methoxyethanol were used for making proper solutions. And the solutions were refluxed and dry in a dry oven and the samples were fired at 200$\sim$600$^{\circ}C$ in the N$_2$ atmosphere. The formation of single-phased spinel ferrite powders was identified with the X-ray diffraction measurement as they were fired at above 250$^{\circ}C$. The result of scanning electron microscopy measurement showed the increase of annealing temperature yielded the particle size increased. The magnetic transition was observed using the Mossbaur spectroscopy measurement. As the ferrite, prepared with the chemical composition (Fe$^{2+}$/Fe$^{3+}$ = 1/2), was fired at 250$^{\circ}C$, 78% of the ferrite had a ferrimagnetic property and 22% of the ferrite was non-magnetic. In case of preparing the sample with only Fe$^{2+}$ and annealed at 200$^{\circ}C$, it had a single phased spinel structure but its particle size was too small to be ferrimagnetic. The annealing temperature above 250$^{\circ}C$ made powders a spinel structure regardless of the preparation method. They had a typical soft magnetic property and their saturation magnetization and coercivity became larger as the annealing temperature increased.
Purpose : Cerebral edema in meningitis is a potentially complication. Hypertonic saline of various concentrations are frequently used to treat cerebral edemas in meningitis. We analyzed the safety and efficacy of osmotic therapy in cerebral edema by comparison of various hypertonic saline concentrations and mannitol. Methods : The medical records of 42 patients, who were followed up in the Department of Pediatrics, Busan Medical Center, from Jan. 2002 to Oct. 2005, were analyzed retrospectively. We measured intracranial pressure, mean flow velocity, and various laboratory parameters. Results : In cerebral edema developed in meningitis, intracranial pressure and symptoms were improved in treatment of hypertonic saline and mannitol. Serial bolus infusion of 3 percent hypertonic saline resulted in the best outcome. There was not a statistically considerable difference on the mean values of the intracranial pressure gap. On transcranial doppler, mean flow velocity was increased and pulsatilty index was decreased. Laboratory findings (osmolarity, Na, Cl, pH, lactic acid, Ca) were diffenent during the treatment period as opposed to K, Hb, bicarbonate, base excess. There was not a specific form of hypertonic saline used in meningitis treatment with cerebral edema. Conclusion : The therapy for cerebral edema in meningitis remains largely empirical. Serial bolus infusion of 3 percent hypertonic saline is better than other hypertonic salines. Various concentrations and different infusion methods of hypertonic saline statistically does not influence the result of treatment. More research aimed at improving cerebral edema treatment is needed to identify new, effective forms of treatment.
We used dipodal type bis[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]amine (BTMA) silane coupling agent to modify silica nanoparticles to introduce secondary amino groups on the silica surface. These N-H groups were reacted with three different molecular weights (M.W. = 258, 575, and 700) of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylates to introduce different attached layer thicknesses on the silica surface by Michael addition reaction. After Michael addition reaction, we used several analytical techniques such as fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), elemental analysis (EA) and solid state $^{13}C$ cross-polarization magic angle spinning (CP/MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to characterize introduced structures. We found almost complete Michael addition reaction of both two acrylate groups of PDGDA with N-H groups of BTMA modified silica to form ${\beta}$-amino acid esters. Between equimolar ratio of pure BTMA and pure PEGDA reaction, only one acrylate group of two acrylate groups of PEGDA reacted with N-H groups of pure BTMA to form ${\beta}$-amino acid ester and the other remaining acrylate group can be used to form a polymer later.

In this study, it was developed eco-friendly alkali-activated slag fiber reinforced concrete using ground granulated blast furnace slag, alkali activator (water glass, sodium hydroxides), and steel fiber. Eight reinforced concrete beam using alkali-activated slag concrete were constructed and tested under monotonic loading. The major variables were mixture ratio of alkali activator, mixed/without of steel fiber. Experimental programs were carried out to improve and evaluate the flexural performance of such test specimens, such as the load-displacement, the failure mode, the maximum load carrying capacity, and ductility capacity. All the specimens were modeled in scale-down size. The reinforced concrete beams using the eco-friendly alkali-activated slag fiber reinforced concrete was failed by the flexure or flexure-shear in general. In addition, the maximum strength increased with the adding the mol of sodium hydroxide, and the specimen reinforced the steel fiber showed the value of maximum strength which is increased by 15.8% through 25.9%. It is thought that eco-friendly alkali-activated slag fiber reinforced concrete can be used with construction material and product to replace normal concrete. If there is applied to structures such as precast concrete member and production of 2nd concrete product, it could be improved the productivity and reduction of construction duration etc.
To make the all-solid-state lithium thin film battery having less than 1 fm in thickness, LiCoO$_2$ thin films were deposited on Pt/TiO$_2$/SiO$_2$/Si substrate as a function of Li/Co mole ratio and the deposition temperature by Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD). Especially, LiCoO$_2$ thin films deposited at 50$0^{\circ}C$ with target of Li/Co=1.2 mole ratio show an initial discharge capacity of 53 $\mu$Ah/cm$^2$-$\mu$m and capacity retention of 67.6%. The microstructural and electrochemical properies of (Li, La)TiO3 thin films grown on LiCoO$_2$Pt/TiO$_2$/SiO$_2$/Si structures by Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) were investigated at various deposition temperatures. The thin films grown at 10$0^{\circ}C$ show an initial discharge capacity of approximately 51 $\mu$Ah/cm$^2$-$\mu$m and moreover show excellent discharge capacity retention of 90% after 100 cycles. An amorphous (Li, La)TiO$_3$ solid electrolyte is possible for application to solid electrolyte for all-solid-state lithium thin film battery below 1 $\mu$m.
Calcium carbonate ($CaCO_3$) immobilized with alginate was studied as buffer system to enhance the cultivation efficiency of Bifidobacterium longum (ATCC 15707) which is inhibited at low pH. To test the bufferring effect of the immobilized $CaCO_3$ beads, pH value in each modified trypticase-proteose peptone-yeast (TPY) broth which is adjusted to pH 4.0 with acetic acid, lactic acid and complex solution of acetic and lactic acid, 3:2 (M:M) was tested by concentration of $CaCO_3$ bead and reaction time. The bufferring effect of $CaCO_3$ bead became higher with increasing the amount of $CaCO_3$ bead in the acidic solution. The growth rate of bifidobacteria and bufferring effect were examined in relation to the amount of $CaCO_3$ bead and concentration of glucose in the modified TPY media. The growth rate of bifidobacteria and bufferring effect were increased with increasing the amount of $CaCO_3$ bead and concentration of glucose. Also, the exponential time of bifidobacteria became longer with increasing the amount of $CaCO_3$ bead and concentration of glucose in the modified TPY media. When we observed the growth rate of bifidobacteria by the method of pH-controlled culture and $CaCO_3$ buffer system, the $CaCO_3$ buffer system was more effective than that of pH-controlled culture. Therefore, this $CaCO_3$ buffer system may be useful as a method to enhance of the cultivation efficiency of bifidobacteria.

Humic substances HS) from process waters at advanced water treatment plant consisted of GAC and Ozone/GAC processes were isolated and extracted by physicochemical fractionation methods to investigate their characteristics. They are characterized for their functionality, chemical composition, spectroscopic characteristics using FT-IR and $^1H$-NMR spectroscopy. Humic fraction gradually decreased from 36.3% to 24.2% from 0.45 to 0.30 mgC/L) through ozonation and carbon adsorption. The humic fraction was isolated into the phenolic and carboxylic groups using A-21 resin, and the concentration of phenolic groups gradually decreased from 38.4% to 23.5% (from 4.9 to $3.2\;{\mu}M/L$ as phenolic-OH) through ozonation and carbon adsorption. In the case of carboxylic groups, the concentration decreased from 61.6% to 43.3% (from 7.8 to $5.8\;{\mu}M/L$ as COOH) through the water treatment processes. On the other hand, concentrations of those roups decreased from 38.4% to 24.0% and 61.6% to 44.9% through carbon adsorption without ozonation, respectively. The structural changes of HS identified from FT-IR and $^1H$-NMR were consistent with the results from the isolation of functional groups in HS.
Poly[3-octylthiophene-co-3-(4-fluorophenyl)thiophene]s were synthesized in 2:1, 1:1, and 1:2 mole ratios, and organic electroluminescent devices were fabricated using the copolymers. The opto-electrical properties of the copolymers were studied by PL, EL spectra, I-V, and V-L curves of the organic electroluminescent devices in conjunction with the energy band diagrams which were obtained from the cyclic voltammogram and the electronic absorption spectra. The LUMO energy level of P(OT/FPT)(1:1) is the lowest as -3.35 eV. In the copolymers P(OT/FPT)(2:1) and P(OT/FPT)(1:1) the ${\lambada}_{max}$ in the PL and EL spectra red-shifted as the mole ratio of fluorophenyl group increased while in P(OT/FPT)(1:2) it showed a blue-shift. This indicates that the backbone chain is twisted due to the steric hinderance of the fluorophenyl group leading to shorter ${\pi}$-conjugation length. P(OT/FPT)(1:1) showed the highest EL intensity and the highest power efficiency among the three copolymers. In P(OT/FPT)(1:2) the roughness of the film surface causes unusually high local leakage current leading to the low efficiency of electroluminescence.
