This tutorial paper presents the design methodology of system-level simulators targeted for code division multiple access (CDMA) cellular standards such as EV-DO (Evolution-Data Only) and broadcast multicast service (BCMCS). The basic structure and simulation flow of system-level simulators are delineated, following the procedure of cell layout, mobile drops, channel modeling, received power calculation, scheduling, packet error prediction, and traffic generation. Packet data transmissions on the forward link of CDMA systems and EV-DO BCMCS systems are considered for modeling simulators. System-level simulators for cellular standards are modeled and developed with high-level languages and utilized to evaluate and predict air interface performance metrics including capacity and coverage.
To obtain realistic composite performance and availability measures, one should consider performance changes that are associated with failure recovery behavior. In this paper we address two modeling approaches, exact composite and approximate, and develop SRN models for these approaches. The former approach is to combine the performance and availability models and yields accurate results but generally faces largeness problem. To avoid the problem, the two level hierarchical model is developed. The upper level model describes the failure and repair behavior of the system and the lower level captures the pure performance aspect of the system, channel allocation and service. It models guard channel and preemptive handoff scheme. As numerical results, blocking and dropping probabilities are given for new call and handoff call, respectively.

As the use of mobile data increases, the proportion of video content is increasing steeply. In order to solve problems that arise when mobile users receive data from geographically remote cloud servers, methods of caching data in advance to edge servers geographically close to the users are attracting lots of attention. In this paper, we present a caching policy that stores data on Small Cell Base Station(SBS) to effectively provide content files to mobile users by applying a delayed offloading scheme in a cellular network. The goal of the proposed policy is to minimize the size of data transmitted from Macro Base Station(MBS) because the delayed offloading scheme requires more cost than when downloaded from MBS than from SBS. The caching policy is proposed to determine the size of content file and which content file to be cached to SBS using the probability of mobile users' paths and the popularity of content files, and to replace content files in consideration of the overlapping coverage of SBS. In addition, through performance evaluation, it has been proven that the proposed policy reduces the size of data downloaded from MBS compared to other algorithms.
The goal of mobile internet system is to provide a high-data-rate, low-latency and optimized packet radio access technology supporting flexible bandwidth deployments. Therefore, network architecture is designed with the goal to support packet-switched traffic with seamless mobility, quality of service and minimal latency. An important requirement for the mobile internet system is improved cell-edge BER performance and data throughput. This is to provide some level of service consistency in terms of geographical coverage as well as in terms of available data throughput within the communication coverage area. In a cellular system, however, the signal to interference plus noise power ratio gap between cell-center and cell-edge users can be of the order of 20 [dB]. The disparity can be even higher in a communication coverage limited cellular system. This leads to vastly lower data throughputs for the cell-edge users relative to cell-center users creating a large QoS gap. This paper proposes a analytical approach that tries to reduce inter-cell interference, and shows the SIR and BER performance according to the OFDM system parameters in mobile Internet environment.

Improvement of performances of potable communication devices such as laptops, tablets, and smart-phones enables people to do group meetings in any place. However, even though group members in a meeting locate close, data or information to be shared in the group are exchanged through the cellular networks. This increases unnecessary traffic loads in the wireless/backbone networks and as consequence it increase delays in communications. To resolve the problem, an android-based application is developed in this paper. The application utilizes Wi-Fi Direct so that all members in the meeting can direct exchange materials for the meeting without using cellular networks.

Recent generation of wireless computing has focus on the integrating of exisitng technologies to enhance the mobile capabilities and developing a new approaches to meet the needs of the growing pool of applications. This paper describes an integrated IEEE802.15.4 wireless CDMA based healthcare system that interacts and received the data wirelessly from wireless medical devices of patient and forward to medical center by using the cellular network. Mobile application had been developed not only as the middle ware to handle the receive and transmit of medical data between wireless sensor network and cellular network but also provides the interface for monitoring and analyzing the health condition of patients continuously at cellular phone regardless of its physical location. This system thus enables the remote healthcare monitoring and supports medical data seamlessly roams between IEEE802.15.4 wireless network and CDMA network beyond and outside the hospital environment.

LTE-Advanced system consisting of the number of cells in the cellular environment because it is built to allow efficient use of limited frequency resources of adjacent cell interference avoidance should be considered. Transition services in accordance with the development of the mobile communication technology, wireless multimedia content from voice-centric mobile communications services and causing a lot of mobile data traffic, such as smart phones and tablet terminals spread of a data-driven surge in mobile data traffic base stations in urban areas by increasing became a reality that can not be prevented. In this paper, we propose a new Hybrid resource allocation technique for improving the performance of the cell boundary and analyzed the performance of the proposed new techniques to perform the simulation using LTE-Advanced system level simulator based on 19cell of cellular system model.

Due to the recent development of mobile wireless telecommunication, RRHs(Remote Radio Heads) are widely being utilized to expand the cell coverage. Wire-link, an existing connection between DU(Digital Unit) and RRH through fiber cables, is considered to have limitations in relation to cost for a wide range of applications. This paper focuses on replacing the wire-link by wireless transmission using millimeter-wave, and implementing cellular network system through RRH from a remote location. After an influence element analysis on millimeter-wave wireless link transmissions, a comparative analysis between wireless link and an existing fiber link method will be made by utilizing currently commercialized LTE(Long Term Evolution), to prove the compatibility of millimeter-wave wireless link RRH method in replacing fiber link method without a significant decline in data transmission performance.

In this paper, the effect of a propagation delay resulting from the use of an OFDM-based cellular system with a transparent mobile multi-hop relay(MMR) is initially analyzed. Then, channel estimation techniques, a least square(LS) method and a minimum mean square error(MMSE) method, for the OFDM systems with throughput enhancement(TE) MMR or cooperative MMR are proposed. The proposed channel estimation techniques can overcome the performance degradation caused by the propagation delay in TE MMR or cooperative MMR systems. It is demonstrated by computer simulation that the proposed channel estimation techniques for OFDM systems with transparent MMR are superior to the conventional techniques in terms of mean square error(MSE) and bit error rate(BER).
