  • This paper proposes the improvement of control performance in the wheeled inverted mobile robot system. and describes the modeling of a wheeled inverted pendulum type mobile robot driven by two different wheels for the position and velocity control. The system is sensitive on the parameter variation, therefore control signal should change to maintain desired state of the system in every instant. we designed proportional-plus-integral controller for our system, After linearization, the system was still unstable, throughout stability analysis of the system, we designed the values of the gains of a proportional-plus-integral controller. From the experimental results, we can find that the performance of the proposed method is better than of the manual tuning method.

  • In this paper, we propose a method that gives motion command to a mobile robot to recognize human being's hand gesture. Former way of the robot-controlling system with the movement of hand used several kinds of pre-arranged gesture, therefore the ordering motion was unnatural. Also it forced people to study the pre-arranged gesture, making it more inconvenient. To solve this problem, there are many researches going on trying to figure out another way to make the machine to recognize the movement of the hand. In this paper, we used third-dimensional camera to obtain the color and depth data, which can be used to search the human hand and recognize its movement based on it. We used HMM method to make the proposed system to perceive the movement, then the observed data transfers to the robot making it to move at the direction where we want it to be.

  • The model predictive control is an effective method to optimize the current control input that predicts the current control state and the future error using the predictive model of the control system when the reference trajectory is known. Since the control input can not have a physically infinitely large value, a predictive controller design with constraints should be considered. In addition, the reference model $A_r$ and the weight matrices Q, R that determine the control performance of the predictive controller are not optimized as arbitrarily designated should be considered in the controller design. In this study, we construct a predictive controller of a mobile robot by transforming it into a quadratic programming problem with constraints, The control performance of the mobile robot can be improved by optimizing the control parameters of the predictive controller that determines the control performance of the mobile robot using genetic algorithm. Through the computer simulation, the superiority of the proposed method is confirmed by comparing with the existing method.

  • Recently, according to improvement of robot technology, research for mobile robot is increasing. Mobile robot having 2-wheels or 4-wheels is easy for straight driving but is difficult for direction change and rotation. So, ball robot having one contact point with base is interested by researchers. By characteristics of the one contact, ball robot is required the balancing and driving control. In this paper, smart phone application, which is usable for control by wireless communication, is proposed. The ball robot having the proposed smart phone application is designed and manufactured. Balancing and driving control by wireless communication is conducted. From the test, it is conformed that ball robot has the control performances as roll angle error is ±0.8deg, pitch angle error is ±0.7deg, x-axis position error is ±0.1m, and y-axis position error is ±0.08m for 1m driving control.

  • This paper presents the trajectory tracking control for mobile robot. The designed controller consists of kinematic and dynamic controller. Kinematic controller has two gains and it reduces the trial time for gain setting as compared convectional controller with three gains. Dynamic controller includes the compensation of friction and disturbance. It can improve the performance of the trajectory tracking under the various environment. Simulation results shows that the proposed controller has a stable performance.

  • In this paper, configuration control for the Horizontal Maintenance and driving of the mobile inverted pendulum robot has been studied using ARS(Attitude Refrence System). The inverted pendulum technique is getting attention and there have been many researches on the seg-way since the US. Using its 2 freedom, a mobile inverted pendulum robot can move in various modes and Our robot performs goal reaching ARS. Mobile inverted pendulum robot fall down to the forward or reverse direction to converge to the stable point. Kalman Filter is normally used for the algorithm and numerous research is progressing at the moment. To calculate the attitude in ARS using 2 axis gyro(roll, pitch) and 3 axis accelerometers (x, y, z). In this paper we present a two wheel robot system for an autonomous mobile robot. This paper realized the robot control method which is much simpler but able to get desired performance by using the IMU and PID control.

  • This paper presents the implementation and control of a two wheeled mobile robot(TWMR) based on a balancing mechanism. The TWMR is a mobile inverted pendulum structure that combines an inverted pendulum system and a mobile robot system with two arms instead of a rod. To improve robustness due to disturbances, the radial basis function (RBF) network is used to control an angle and a position at the same time. The reference compensation technique(RCT) is used as a neural control method. Experimental studies are conducted to demonstrate performance of neural network controllers. The robot are implemented with the remote control capability.

  • In this paper, we implemented an intelligent home service robot system which alerts users to danger by wireless internet platforms for interoperability(WIPI) of a cellular phone. This paper discusses the three parts of the system: robot, middleware and mobile system. First, the robot consists of a gas sensor, a fire detector, ultrasonic sensors, motors, a camera and a Bluetooth module. The robot perceives various danger circumstances. Second, the middleware connects the robot and the mobile system. It monitors the robot and sends emergency notification SMS message to the user's cellular phone if in danger. Third, the mobile system sends commands which control the robot using TCP/IP protocol. The proposed scheme is to control the sensors of the robot part through Atmega 128 processor, and the robot and middleware parts will be installed in the household, and will be controled by mobile part from the outside.
