On Flow Field over a Fixed Dune (Sand Dune 주위유동장에 대하여)

  • The present study deals with turbulent flow over a long train of fixed two-dimensional dunes, identical in size and shape. A detailed study was carried out by PIV over a range of flow depths in a fully developed region. The present study confirmed the global features of flow past a fired dune noticed in previous studies, i.e. the size and shape of the reverse flow, the mean velocity and turbulence profiles across the separated and attached flows. The turbulence and shear stress profiles reveal the presence of larger values along the line extending from crest to crest. At stations ahead of the dune crest, the presence of a peak in the streamwise turbulence profiles around y/h = 2 indicates the sustenance of turbulence generated in the separation zone of the previous zone which will be carried over to the next dune.

  • 본 연구는 모래사면의 언덕근처에 설치된 짧은 말뚝의 수평하중의 영향에 관한 것이다. 3차원 탄소성 유한요소법해석과 실내 모형실험의 결과를 비교하였다. 경사 30$^{\circ}$의 사면에 시공된 짧은 말뚝의 특성을 파악하기 위해, 사면언덕에서 모형말뚝까지의 거리를 3종류로 상이하게 하여, 모형실험을 실시하였다. 사용된 모래의 지반특성은 배수조건하의 삼축압축실험으로 결정하였다. 동시에 3차원 탄소성 유한요소법에 의한 수치해석결과와 모형실험결과를 비교하였다. 본 유한요소법의 해석에 있어서 모래지반을 탄성완전소성모델(Elastic-perfectly plastic model)로 가정하여, 파괴기준으로 Mohr-Coulomb 식과 소성 포텐셜에 대해서는 Drucker-Prager 식을 적용한 MC-DP 모델로 하였다. 이러한 MC-DP 모델의 구성식은 유한요소법에서 있어 계산치의 수렴에 유익하다. 3차원 탄소성 유한요소법에 의한 수치해석이 사질토 사면의 언덕 부근에 설치된 단하의 수평거동에 대한 파악에 유효하다는 것을 확인하였다.

  • The assessment of PIV to measure the mean velocity and turbulence was carried out over a train of fixed two-dimensional dunes. The agreement between the PIV and LDV is good enough even in regions of flow reversals and high shear. Though limited in the wall normal direction field-of-view, PIV provides instantaneous flow fields, which reveal the complex nature of flow over dunes, as well as more sophisticated analyses such as two-point space correlation and quadrant analysis with a reasonable accuracy The present study is expected to be directly applied to more complex flow such as sediment transport.

Study on Growth Characteristics of Pinus thunbergii Windbreak Forests around Goosipo Beach, Gochang-Gun (고창 구시포 해안 곰솔림의 생장특성에 관한 연구)

  • The growth characteristics of Pinus thunbergii windbreak forest around Goosipo Beach, Sangha-Myon, Gochang-Gun, Jeollabuk-Do have been investigated, and the results are summarized as follows. The soil in the site was light acid sand with pH 5.7, and the mean sodium concentration of soils was 1.42dS/m. The tree diameter, height, crown width, and shape ratio(Height/DBH) were better with tree density was coming lower. Especially, the rate of shape ratio under 60 was more in sites with low tree density. This demonstrated that the trees have grown more soundly when the tree density was lower. The direction of main winds and distribution ratio of tree inclination had a correlation. The inclined trees are seemed to be influenced by main winds when they were younger and by Typhoon partly. Eighty one vascular plant species were found in the sites, and more number of herbaceous plants (57 taxa) lived there than woody plants (24 taxa). And more plant species of dune were found at the site where dune have developed well. Some thinning works need at high tree density areas in order to ensure effects of coastal windbreak.

Leslie Marmon Silko's Decolonizing Efforts and Syncretic Vision in Gardens in the Dunes (『모래언덕 위의 정원』에 나타난 레슬리 마몬 실코의 탈식민화 작업과 혼합주의적 비전)

  • Leslie Marmon Silko, in her novel Gardens in the Dunes, primarily focuses on revealing the white colonialists' plan to exterminate and destroy American Indians and their culture. In this regard, this novel is clearly an Indian counter narrative to interrogate and abrogate the authority of the oppressive and destructive discourse of the whites who are full of colonialist impulses to sterilize Indians and their culture. However, it should be noted that Silko is very careful not to insist on cultural exclusivism and reverse ethnocentrism, since these only mean a return to the violent colonialists' discourse based on dualism and cultural authenticity which, she believes, has led to the marginalization and eventual deterioration of Indians and their culture. White values and culture are something to recognize and tolerate as long as they are not the products of witchery, also known as the destroyer or evil for Silko, which promotes disruption and antagonism between races and classes. As she reveals in her interview, her major concern in the novel is to dismantle political and/or racial distinctions like Native Americans versus EuroAmericans and thus to enhance the idea of the reconciliation and coexistence of whites and Indians. Silko's Gardens in the Dunes can be regarded as an experiment in the possibility of the universal and homogeneous (at least in its roots) global culture which tolerates all forms of culture. Global culture does not mean a uniform totalitarian culture but a vision of a harmonious world characterized by hybridity and heterogeneity, in which different cultures associate freely without the notion of inferiority or superiority of any one culture. Silko's belief in syncretism emphasizes the spirit of tolerance and exchange between different cultures, dismantling the authority of exclusive ethnocentrism. The ultimate message implied in Gardens in the Dunes is that the syncretic spirit is not only an effective means to correct the white colonialists' hegemonic desire aimed at the extermination of Indians and their culture but also a source of energy for the life and prosperity of modern Indians and their societies.

Behaviors of Pile Croup Installed Near Inclined Ground (경사지반에 인접하여 설치된 무리말뚝의 거동연구)

  • Many transmission towers, high-rise buildings and bridges are constructed near steep slopes and are supported by large-diameter piles. These structures may be subjected to large lateral loads, such as violent winds and earthquakes. Widely used types of foundations for these structures are pier foundations, which have large-diameters with high stiffness. The behavior of a pier foundation subjected to lateral loads is similar to that of a short rigid pile because both elements seem to fail by rotation developing passive resistance on opposite faces above and below the rotation point, unlike the behavior of a long flexible pile. This paper describes the results of several numerical studies performed with a three-dimensional finite element method (FEM) of model tests of a laterally loaded short pile located near slopes, respectively. In this paper, the results of model tests of single piles and pile groups subjected to lateral loading, in homogeneous sand with 30$^{\circ}$ slopes and horizontal ground were analyzed by the 3-D FE analyses. The pile was assumed to be linearly elastic. The sand was assumed to have non-associative characteristics, following the MC-DP model. The failure criterion is governed by the Mohr-Coulomb equation and the plastic potential is given by the Drucker-Prager equation. The main purpose of this paper is the validation of the 3-D elasto-plastic FEM by comparisons with the experimental data.

A Study on the Tolerance to the Soil Properties and Water Contents of Vitex rotundifolia Seedlings for Extension of Rehabilitation Plant (순비기나무의 녹화소재 이용성 확대를 위한 토양 및 토양수분 적응성에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to survey the usability of Vitex rotundifolia as an afforestation and landscaping plant on destroyed slopes, sandyhills of sea boards, and places in need of landscaping. The growth characteristics of seedlings and rooted cuttings of Vitex rotundifolia in soils of varying properties and water content ere studied. In three test soils, with a water content of 5% each, the survival rate was more than 70ole for seedlings and more than 40% for rooted cuttings. This demonstrates that Vitex rotundifolia is a very strongly xeric tree species. The length of stem, the diameter of root stock, leaves, and the length of root increased in all the three types of soil as the quantity of soil water increased. The difference of the growth in response to the water content of the soil was most pronounced in the length of the stem. The growth of seedlings was most notable in the weathered granitic soil. The sea sand and the red silt loam came second and third, respectively. However, there was no major difference in the three test soils. Thus, Vitex rotundifolia appears well-suited to several soil properties and soil water quantities, which makes it very useful as an afforestation and landscaping plant in various sites.

Estimates on the Long-term Landform Changes Near Sinduri Beaches (신두리 해빈 장기해안지형변화 탐지 및 추정)

  • Sinduri beach is a typical sedimentary landform that forms sand dunes due to the influence of the northwest wind in winter. Due to the its large scale and well-developed nature, it has been recognized for conservation value and is currently designated as Natural Monument No. 431, and continuous monitoring is required in terms of the preservation of topographical values. In this study, aerial images, drone images, and drone-based LiDAR data during 36 years were used for long-term topographical change observation of the Sinduri coastal sand dunes located in Taean-gun, Chungcheongnam-do. To implement this, the amount of change in elevation and volume for each period was calculated by applying the difference of Digital Elevation Model (DEM) based on raster calculation using the numerical elevation model generated from the raw data. Also, the amount of change in volume based on probability was calculated using the error propagation law for the intrinsic error of each data source. As a result, it can be seen that from 1986 to 2022, deposition of 35,119 m3 occurred in region of interest A (area: 17,960 m2) and 54,954 m3 of deposition occurred in region of interest B (area: 17,686 m2).

Distributional Characteristics and Factors Related to the Population Persistence, an Endangered Plant Glaux maritima var. obtusifolia Fernald (멸종위기야생식물인 갯봄맞이꽃(Glaux maritima var. obtusifolia Fernald)의 분포특성과 개체군의 지속에 관여하는 요인)

  • For effective conservation of endangered wild plants, it is necessary to understand their interactions with environmental factors in each habitat together with life traits of target species. First, the characteristics of their distribution were investigated followed by their monitoring for 4 years focusing on the habitats in the lagoon. Also, their life traits were compared including production of hibernacles, fruits, and seeds by the soil fertilization and light intensities. Next, the information on the species was secured by germination experiment using the generated seeds from the cultivation experiment. The habitat of Glaux maritima var. obtusifolia Fernald in Korea was located in the rear edge of the worldwide distribution and its four habitats were isolated and distributed far away each other. Two of them were located in small salt-marsh and fine sand estuaries formed in the rocky area of the seashore, and the other two were inhabited with the sandy soil in the lagoon which was connected by river-mouth to the sea. Glaux maritima var. obtusifolia Fernald tends to be distributed in the sites where the establishment and growth of the competitor were inhibited by salinity, periodic flooding, and lower layer of the soil to extend a roots. It maintained its population by recruitments of hibernacles and seedling. The production of hibernacle was assumed to be affected by the particle consist of the sand together with organic matters in the soil. Seedling recruitment was observed only in the salt-marsh area located in the rear sites of sand ridge where was the shore of the lagoon. Glaux maritima var. obtusifolia Fernald was observed to have different threatening factors by each population. Its population in Pohang seemed the sedimentation of fine sand which affected the recruitment of hibernacles had been eroded due to the construction of the coastal road. The population in Ulsan appeared rapid expansion of competitor and reduction of its distribution area due to the interruption of eluted water supplied to the habitat. On the other hand, the habitat in the lagoon maintained the population relatively stable. Especially, the population in Songji-ho was determined to be the most stable one. To sustain the population of Glaux maritima var. obtusifolia Fernald distributed in the lagoon, it is suggested that the wide ranged scale of conservational activities is necessary to maintain the mechanisms including the entrance of seawater which belongs to the lagoon, and periodic flooding.
