  • This study investigated spectroscopic exploration of Myeonsan formation, the titanium(Ti) ore hostrock, in Joseon supergroup based on machine learning technique. The mineral composition, Ti concentration, spectral characteristics of Myeonsan and non-Myeonsan formation of Joseon supergroup were analyzed. The Myeonsan formation contains relatively larger quantity of opaque minerals along with quartz and clay minerals. The PXRF analysis revealed that the Ti concentration of Myeosan formation is at least 10 times larger than the other formations with bi-modal distribution. The bi-modal concentration is caused by high Ti concentrated sandy layer and relatively lower Ti concentrated muddy layer. The spectral characteristics of Myeonsan formation is manifested by Fe oxides at near infrared and clay minerals at shortwave infrared bands. The Ti exploration is expected to be more effective on detection of hostrock rather than Ti ore because ilmenite does not have characteristic spectral features. The random-forest machine learning classification detected the Myeonsan fomation at 85% accuracy with overall accuracy of 97%, where spectral features of iron oxides and clay minerals played an important role. It indicates that spectral analysis can detect the Ti host rock effectively, and can contribute for UAV based remote sensing for Ti exploration.

  • Aiming to elucidate the formation processes of Myeonsan wetland around the ridge from Myeonsan peak to Seokgae pass, this paper analyzes the geomorphic, physical and chemical characteristics of the wetland. The results are as follow: Firstly, resistant bedrock and big boulders distributed on the riverbed of the small channel from the wetland to Seokgaecheon have played a role as a temporary base level. At the upstream part above this point, a wide and shallow depression was formed and developed into a wetland. There was a gorge covered with boulders at downstream part. Secondly, owing to the obstacles at the outlet of wetland, deposits on bed tend to be downstream coarsening. Finally, deposits show weak acidity of pH 5.0~5.7. The source of wetland water is groundwater containing rich Ca and Na. Trees in the wetland help much more Ca accumulated. And deposit biotite and amphibole contained rich Mg have been weathered in the wetland.

  • This study was carried out to classify forest vegetation of Mt. Myeonsan with phytosociological analysis of ZM School and to explain community types with CCA ordination. The research sites were located in the northern part of Kyungsangpook-Do area and in the southern part of Kangwon-Do. The 73 plots were investigated in the study areas which were including 291 plant species. The forest vegetation was classified into Quercus mongolica community group, Juglans mandshurica community group, and Larix leptolepis plantation. Q. mongolica community group was divided into 9 communities such as Rhododendron schlippenbachii community, Symplocos paniculata community, Pinus densiflora community, Betula schmidtii community, Fraxinus rhynchophylla community, Populus davidiana community, Tilia amurensis community, Betula costata community and Betula davurica community. J. mandshurica community group was divided into 5 communities and 4 groups such as Acer mono community (subdivided into Quercus serrata group and typical group), Fraxinus mandshurica community, Ulmus laciniata community (subdivided into typical group and Ribes mandshuricum group), Malus baccata community and Carpinus laxiflora community. And it was entirely classified into 17 vegetation units. According to CCA, Q. mongolica community group showed high positive correlation to topography, altitude and slope degree, and J. mandshurica community group showed high positive correlation to bare rock. However, L. leptolepis community group was not significantly ordinated with the gradient of environmental factors. And in correlation of axes, important environmental variables were topography and altitude.

  • An epidemiologic survey along the several sites of southern coastal areas of Korean peninsula was performed to know the infection status of Pcnlotremc app. metacercariae in Tapes phiLlppirlawm. The clams were purchased from 13 coastal areas in Kyongsangnam- do alld Chollanam-do. in September, 1990. Each of them was digested with pepsin-HCI solution and examined under a stereomicroscope for the recovery of metacercariae. A total of 232 (77.3%) out of 300 examined clams were proved to have 1 to 273 Pawatrema app. metacercariae (54.7 in average). None of the clams from Samoan-myon Kosong-gun and Dolsan-up. Yochon-gun was infected with metacercariae. However, all of the clams from Yonghyon-myon, Sachon-guu, Dohwa-myon, Kohung-gun, Ahllyang-myon. Changhung- gun and Chiryang-myon. Kangiin-gun were infected with average 71, 31, 80 and 42 metacercariae respectively. Of the clams from Kohyon-myon, Namhae-gun, Doam-myon, Kangiin-gun and Kusan-myon. Uichang-guil examined, 97.5%. 95.0% and 90.0% were infected with about 117. 76 and 28 metacercariae. In other 4 surveyed areas. Seolchon rlyoll, Namhae-gun, Hwayang-myon. Yochon-gun Byollyang-myon, Sungju-gun and Bukpyong-myon, Haenam-gun. 55.0%-80.0% of clams were positive. and their average intensity of infection ranged from 6 to 25 metacercariae. From these results, it was confirmed that Tcpes philippincrum from southern coastal areas of Korea are highly infected by Parvatrema spp. metacercariae.

  • A nationwide survey was performed to know the geographical distribution of Gymnophalloides seoi (Digenea: Gymnophallidae) metacercariae in Korea, by examining the infection status of locally produced oysters, Crassosden gillu. A total of 24 coastal areas (myons) of 14 guns (=counties) in Kyonggi-do, Chollabuk-do, Chollanam-do, Kyongsangnam-do, Kyongsangbuk-do, or Kangwon-do, where natural oysters are produced but G. seoi has never been reported, and 13 areas (myons) of Shinan-gun, Chollanam-do, nearby the known endemic area, were surveyed. Oysters from non- endemic areas were free from G. seoi infection, except Byonsan-myon of Buan-gun, Chollabuk-do, where one of 50 oysters examined was infected with 15 metacercariae of G. seoi. In Shinan-gun, oysters from 10 areas including Aphae-myon (= township) and Anjwa-myon were infected with the metacercariae, with the infection rate ranging from 1.7% to 100% by areas. The intensity of infection was the highest in Aphae-myon, 785.9 metacercariae per oyster. The results indicate that high prevalence of G. seoi is confined to Shinan-gun, but low grade prevalence is also present in adjacent areas such as Buan- gun, Chollabuk-do.
