Short Reaction Mechanism for Premixed CH4-Air Flames at High Pressure (고압에서 예혼합 CH4-Air 화염의 축소 반응 메카니즘)

  • A short reaction mechanism for premixed $CH_4$-air flames at high pressure was developed using a reduction method based on the combined application of the simulation error minimization connectivity method and the iterative species-removal sensitivity method. It consisted of 43 species and 554 elementary reactions under the condition that it produces less than 5% of the maximum error. The flame structures obtained using a detailed reaction mechanism and the short reaction mechanism were compared for $CH_4$-air flames with various initial temperatures and equivalence ratios at high pressure, and the results were in good agreement. Therefore, the short reaction mechanism developed could reproduce the flame speeds, temperatures, and concentrations of major and minor species at high pressure.

  • Effect of radiation models on the suppression limits in counterflow $CH_4$/air diffusion flame was numerically investigated with fundamental experiments for the numerical validation. $N_2$ and $CO_2$ were considered as extinguishing agents. The differences in extinguishing concentration between OTM and SNB radiation models which have different accuracy levels were examined. As a result, there is no considerable difference in extinguishing concentration for the $N_2$ dilution as the radiation models with different accuracy levels were used. As the $CO_2$ having strong radiative effect was diluted in the low strain flames, however, the radiation model with high predictive accuracy such as SNB should be used. In particular, the $CO_2$ dilution in fuel stream leads to the significant difference in extinguishing concentration between OTM and SNB models. Therefore, it is necessary that the radiation model should be reasonably chosen with the consideration of numerical accuracy and computational time for the prediction of extinguishing concentration.

A Study on Thermal Management of Stack Supply Gas of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell System for Ship Applications (선박 전원용 고체산화물형 연료전지(SOFC) 시스템의 스택 공급 가스의 열관리 문제에 관한 연구)

  • In this research, the fuel cell system model capable of generating codes in real time was developed to construct of a HIL (Hardware-In-the-Loop) for a SOFC-powered ship. Moreover, the effects of the distribution of the exhaust gas flow rates in a stack, the flow rates of fuels and temperature of air supplied on the temperature characteristics of fuels supplied to the cathode and the anode, the output power of the stack and system efficiency are examined to minimize the temperature difference between fuels supplied to the stack used in a 500kW SOFC system using methane as a fuel. As a result, the temperatures of fuels supplied to the cathode and the anode maintain at 830K when the opening factor of three-way valve located at outlet of turbine is 0.839. Also the process for optimization of methane flow rate considering the fuel cell stack and system efficiency is required to increase the temperatures of fuels supplied to the stack.

A Parametric Study on the Catalytic Combustion of Gaseous Methane, Ethane and Propane Fuels (메탄, 에탄 및 프로판 가스 연료의 촉매연소에 관한 매개변수 연구)

  • Catalytic combustion is generally accepted as one of the environmentally preferred alternatives for heat and power from fossil fuels, as it has the advantage of stable combustion under very lean conditions with such low emissions as UHC, CO, and NOx. In this work, therefore, comparative numerical studies on the catalytic combustion behaviors over Pd-based catalysts have been conducted with the gaseous $CH_4$, $C_2H_6$, and $C_3H_8$. In the following, after introducing the governing equations with 1D channel and Langmuir-Hinshelwood models, numerical investigations on the catalyst performance are conducted by changing such various parameters as inlet temperature, excess air ratio, and space velocity. The numerical results show that outlet temperature and conversion of $C_3H_8$ are highest among others because of its chemical structure and reactivity.

  • 전극 전해질 복합체가 하나로 구성된 단위전지는 전기출력이 낮아 원하는 전기출력을 얻기 위하여 단위전지를 여러 장 직렬로 쌓아 스택을 구성하여야 한다. 본 연구에서는 400W급 직접메탄을 연료전지 스택을 제조하여, 운전 조건의 최적화를 위한 실험을 수행하였고, 한국형 휴머노이드 로봇인 Hubo에 적용하여 그 동특성을 평가하였다. 0.8M 메탄을 용액은 260 ml/min의 유량을, 공기는 42LPM을 스택에 주입하여 400W의 성능을 나타내었다. 연료전지 스택의 온도와 전압의 편차는 작았으며 정상 운전시스템의 온도는 약 $70^{\circ}C$를 유지하였다. 로봇의 필요 전력이 높을 경우, 배터리와 연료전지가 동시에 부하 변동에 대응하였다 방전된 배터리는 로봇의 필요 전력이 낮아질 경우, 충전되어 이후의 방전 상황에 대비하였다. 연료전지 시스템 적용 결과 로봇의 성공적인 운전을 확인할 수 있었다.

Effects of Aeration on Bio-hydrogen (Bio-H2) Production in the Anaerobic Digestion (혐기성 소화시 aeration이 수소생성에 미치는 영향)

  • This research investigated the effect of aeration pretreatment for anaerobic seed sludge on hydrogen production. Aeration time for anaerobic sludge was maintained at 0, 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 hours in batch tests. Two continuous anaerobic reactors (aerated and non-aerated) were also operated. All experiments were conducted at $35^{\circ}C$ using mineral salts-glucose (20 g/l) medium. Methane production decreased with the increase in aeration time. Aeration for 6 hours was determined as an optimum from the amount of hydrogen produced. Hydrogen was steadily produced in the continuous reactor seeded with aerated sludge while no methane production was observed. However, small amount of hydrogen was produced in the non-aerated reactor for short period of time from the start even though short HRT (2 days) and low pH (5.5) were maintained.

Chromophoric Structures of Alkali Lignin (알카리리그닌의 착색구조(着色構造)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • To investigate the formation of the chromophoric structures taking place during the alkaline pulping vanillyl alcohol [${\alpha}-^{13}C$] guaiacylglycerol-${\beta}$-aryl ether [${\alpha}-^{13}C$ or ${\gamma}-^{13}C$] and phenylcoumarn [${\alpha}-^{13}C$] units as model lignins were treated with 1N sodium hydroxide at 165$^{\circ}C$ for 1.5-3 hours. From the chemical structures of the isolated products and $^{13}C$-NMR Spectra of the reaction mixtures, the main conclusion is as follows; 1) Condensation products of II-1-5 were identified from the reaction mixture of vanillyl alcohol treated with alkali and theses compounds afforded the quinonmethide structure(Fig. 3-7) by air oxidation. 2) Treatment of guaiacylglycerol-${\beta}$-aryl ether unit gave ${\varphi}$-aryl-${\beta}$-aroxy quinone structures (IV-15, IV-16), diguaiacyl-1, 4-penta-diene ${\beta}$, ${\beta}$'-diaroxyl distyrene methane unit, ${\beta}$-aroxy distyrene methane. These distyrene methanes of the compounds are transformed by air oxidation into the corresponding o-quinonemethide units (V-8, V-9). 3) On the treatment of phenylcoumaran, the stilbene derivative was formed in quantitative yield and dimerized(VI-11) in preference to oxidation to the corresponding extended quinone structures. The chromophoric structures taken place during the alkaline treatment of the model lignins are thought to be some important types in alkaline pulping on the basis of the reaction mechanism in this experiment.

Characteristics of Stabilization of Excavated Solid Wastes by Aerobic and Anaerobic Landfilling (호기 및 혐기매립에 의한 굴착폐기물의 안정화 특성 연구)

  • Anaerobic decomposition of municipal solid waste (MSW) had potential adverse impacts such as the production of methane and long-term post closure on human health and the environment. It was demonstrated that aerobic degradation of MSW resulted in the reduction of a methane yield and the enhancement of stabilization of MSW. Excavated solid wastes were both aerobically and anaerobically treated in order to evaluate the effects of air injection on the stabilization of landfill site. The municipal solid waste (MSW) samples were excavated from a 10-year old landfill (operation period: 1991. 11~1994. 11), Jeonju, Korea. Excavated municipal solid wastes are primarily composed of soils and vinyl/plastics. For the two aerobic simulated lysimeters, the levels of $O_2$ ranged 1.6~23.1% and the levels of $CO_2$ ranged 1.5~15.1%, which confirmed the aerobic decomposition. Aeration did prevent methane formation. For the anaerobic simulated lysimeter, the $CO_2$ rose as $O_2$ was consumed and low levels of CH4 were produced. The pH levels ranged from 7.7 to 8.9 for anaerobic lysimeter and from 7.3 to 8.5 for aerobic lysimeters. As expected, aerobic treatment proved to enhance the removal of biodegradable materials in the excavated solid wastes when monitoring the concentration of BOD, COD, $NH_4-N$, and $NO_3-N$ in the leachate.

Combustion Characteristics of Land Fill Gas according to the Diameter of the Flame outlet of the Pre-chamber Spark Plug (예연소실 점화 플러그의 화염 분출구 직경에 따른 매립지가스의 연소 특성)

  • This research work is to suggest the experimental results capable of solving an initial unsuitability of combustion and environment in a constant volume combustion chamber by using LFG(Land Fill Gas) which consists of 40% CO2 and 60% CH4. The experimental condition is set as 0.9~1.6 of air-fuel ratio, 3bar of combustion pressure, 25℃ of room temperature, methane for using gas, and 2.5~4.5 of Pre-chamber hole sizes. As a result, it can be seen that diffusion of initial flame is significantly increased by M3.0 model comparing with other one. The reason for the characteristics is that orifice effect is extremely improved by 0.9, 1.0, and 1.2 of air-fuel ratio comparing with other one. Consequently, this experiment is shown that M3.0 model is partially capable of improving combustion performance than a conventional ignition plug in case of applying to LFG with Pre-chamber design.

A Study on reforming product characteristics by gas phase secondary pyrolysis (기상2차 열분해에 의한 개질 생성물 특성에 관한 연구)

  • 목질계 바이오매스 가스화 발전에 있어서는 가스화 가스중에 함유되어있는 타르를 가능한 한 가연성 가스로 전환하여 냉가스효율을 향상시키는 것 및 잔유하는 타르는 후단기기에 악영향을 초래할 우려가 있기 때문에 타르를 저감 제거하는 것이 바람직하다. 본 연구에서는 공기 수증기를 사용하여 타르개질 프로세스의 개선을 위해서 타르에서 가스성분으로의 전환에 관한 개질 실험을 실시하여 Wood chip 타르의 열분해 개질 생성물 거동에 대하여 검토하였다. Wood chip 열분해로 생성된 타르의 원소분석 및 $^1H$ NMR분석의 결과로 타르를 치환기를 가지지 않는 방향족, alkyl-기를 가지는 방향족, 산소 함유 방향족, 지방족의 4개로 분류하였다. 개질제에 의해 경질 타르, 중질 타르 모두 감소하였다. 개질 공기는 타르를 연소시키지만 그 속도는 가연성 가스와 경합하고 $900^{\circ}C$에서는 타르의 연소는 나타나지 않았다. alkyl-기를 가지는 방향족은 메탄과 치환기를 가지지 않는 방향족으로 전환되고, 치환기를 가지지 않는 방향족은 수소와 soot로 전환되고, 산소 함유 방향족은 일산화탄소와 치환기를 가지지 않는 방향족으로 전환되는 것을 알았다. 또한, 개질제에 의해alkyl-기를 가지는 방향족, 치환기를 가지지 않는 방향족, 산소 함유방향족 모두가 일산화탄소,이산화탄소로 전환되는 것을 알았다.
