Construction of the Digital Archive System from the Records of Westerners Who Stayed in Korea during the Enlightenment Period of Chosun (개화기 조선 체류 서양인 기록물의 디지털 아카이브 시스템 구축)

  • This study was conducted to create a digital archive for local cultural contents compiled from the records of westerners who stayed in Korea during the Enlightenment Period of Chosun. The compiled information were gathered from 22 records, and 10 main subjects, 40 sub-subjects and 239 mini-subjects were derived through the subject classification scheme. Item analysis was conducted through 38 metadata and input data types were classified and databased in Excel. Finally, a web-based digital archiving system was developed for searching and providing information through various access points. Suggestions for future research were made to expand archive contents through continuous excavation of westerners' records, to build an integrated information system of Korean digital archives incorporating individual archive systems, to develop standardization of classification schemes and a multidimensional classification system considering facet structure in cultural heritage areas, to keep consistency of contents through standardization of metadata format, and to build ontology using semantic search functions and data mining functions.

  • Photographic archives of universities are one of the most valuable types of records that establish the university's identity and provide historical evidence. Unlike text records, however, they are weak in conveying meanings. Therefore, it is difficult to support users' search and utilization unless the information of photo records is comprehensively described. In this study, for the university photo archives, we tried to structure the classification system of photo archives and develop a metadata set that reflects the category characteristics in the classification. To this end, the photo archives classification system and metadata elements of domestic and American university archives were analyzed and based on this, the model of information structure was proposed. The information structure model presented in this study can help university archives improve the data quality of their photo archives and support users with the abundant discovery of photo archives.

  • 최근에 XML은 가독성과 확장성이란 장점 때문에 IPTV나 스마트 TV에서 서비스나 콘텐츠 정보 표현 및 검색을 위한 기술로 많이 사용되고 있다. 특히 TV-Anytime에서 정의한 스키마나 전송 프로토콜을 기본 규격으로 채택하고 필요한 기능을 수용하기 위하여 규격을 확장하는 경향을 보이고 있다. 그러한 장점에도 불구하고 XML은 텍스트 기반으로 정보를 표현함으로써 정보의 양이 커진다는 문제가 존재하고 이를 위하여 다양한 인코딩 방식이 제공되고 있다. 그러나 전송과정에서 문서를 독립된 조각으로 단편화하여 블록단위로 캡슐화하는 과정을 거치면서 인코딩 효율이 급격하게 떨어지게 되는 문제가 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 XML 문서를 캡슐화하는 과정에서 단편화를 통해 감소되는 인코딩 효율을 보완할 수 있는 블록 단위의 문자열 테이블 방식을 제안하고 실험을 통한 성능 분석을 제공하였다.

  • 텍스트 중심의 현재의 웹은 주로 시각적 효과만을 고려하여 사용되었으므로, 사용자가 원하는 정보를 효율적으로 추출하기에는 많은 문제점을 지니고 있다. 그래서 점차 메타데이타의 개념을 통하여 웹 문서에 시맨틱 정보를 덧붙이고 이를 이용하여 컴퓨터와 사람이 의사소통을 할 수 있는 시맨틱 웹이 제안되었다. 앞으로 의미 중심의 시맨틱 웹으로 발전해 나가기 위해서는 온톨로지의 구현이 필수적으로 요구되는데, 본 논문은 현재 웹에서 사용되고 있는 HTML언어를 재입력하지 않고, 온톨로지 언어 중 하나인 OWL로 자동 변환하는 시스템을 구현하고자 한다. 온톨로지를 사용함으로써 현재의 웹과 비교하여 좋은 잇점은 문서에 대한 의미와 구조를 파악하여 기계가 의미에 따라 정보를 자동 추론을 할 수 있고, 이기종간의 상호운용성을 보장한다. 또한 현재의 웹에서는 많은 문서들이 서로 동일한 내용으로 작성되는 경우가 많은데, 작성된 온톨로지를 공유하고 재사용하여 그에 따르는 시간과 비용을 줄일 수 있다.

  • 최근 인터넷의 발전으로 방대한 정보가 존재함에 따라 이들 정보들을 통합 관리할 필요성이 증대하고, 웹 검색 시스템의 서비스가 텍스트 뿐만 아니라 이미지나 사운드 데이터와 같은 멀티미디어 정보까지 보편화되어 검색의 결과로 서비스를 제공하고 있다. 기존의 검색결과를 보면 멀티미디어 데이터에 대한 검색결과는 부가적 정보로서 서비스를 제공하기 때문에 검색 결과에 대해서도 정확한 결과에 대한 서비스를 제공하지 못하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 XML기반에서 멀티미디어 데이터 소스에 대한 메타데이터를 DTD로 설계하여 내용기반 질의를 효과적으로 분산처리 할 수 있도록 Mediator를 설계한다.

  • On this study, we analyzed the movie With gods's narrative structure. This movie makes most people who has seen it feel deeply moved. We think that people can get deep feeling from a film at last after people who has seen the movie accept a context, story, and a message of the movie gladly. We focused on a special system in this movie With gods that can make give an ordinary message and big touch to people. Also we focused on every episodes of every space in a movie, and someone who moved freely between the spaces. A repetitive form and repetitive contents in a narrative become a special code itself -repetitiveness- for people and make them do auto-communication. Specifically, an information, the movie's repetitiveness, out of people become a special code for them, and then that make people bring memory and new information by themselves. Watching movie, people can look back up on life with every trial in the movie. In short, a repetitiveness and an auto-communication are a special system in the movie, that can make deeply touched.

  • Semantic search is known as a series of activities and techniques to improve the search accuracy by clearly understanding users' search intent without big cognitive efforts. Usually, semantic search engines requires ontology and semantic metadata to analyze user queries. However, building a particular ontology and semantic metadata intended for large amounts of data is a very time-consuming and costly task. This is why commercialization practices of semantic search are insufficient. In order to resolve this problem, we propose a novel semantic search method which takes advantage of our previous semantic tensor space model. Since each term is represented as the 2nd-order 'document-by-concept' tensor (i.e., matrix), and each concept as the 2nd-order 'document-by-term' tensor in the model, our proposed semantic search method does not require to build ontology. Nevertheless, through extensive experiments using the OHSUMED document collection and SCOPUS journal abstract data, we show that our proposed method outperforms the vector space model-based search method.

  • This study was conducted to create a digital archive for local cultural contents compiled from the records of westerners who visited Korea during the Enlightenment Period of Chosun. The compiled information were gathered from 11 records, and 10 main subjects and 120 sub-subjects were derived through the subject classification scheme. Item analysis was conducted through 37 metadata, and input data types were classified and databased in Excel. Finally, a model of the digital archive system was simulated, and a webpage consisting of five menus was presented. Suggestions for future research were extensive aggregation of new data for archive expansion, active connections between archive systems, standardization of systems, and improved system design for compatibility and user-friendliness.

  • In order to analyze textbooks from a discursive approach, the purpose of this study is to structuralize an analytic framework based on previous literature review and apply it to analyzing the meanings and their syntheses developed by words and visual mediators appeared in the definition of graph in first-year middle school textbooks. The discursive approach consists of the communicational approach developed by Sfard(2008) and the systemic functional linguistics developed by Halliday(1985/2004). In this study, ideational meta-functions for ideational meanings and interpersonal meta-functions for interpersonal meanings were employed to analyze the meanings produced by words and visual mediators in textbooks, whereas textual meta-functions for textual meanings were used for analyzing the synthesized relationships between words and visual mediators. Results show that first, density in mathematical discourse was very high and subjects in mathematical activities were ambiguous in the ideational meanings of words, and behavior aspect was more emphasized than thinking aspect in the interpersonal meanings of words which request student participations. In the case of ideational meanings of visual mediators, there was a lack of narrative diagrams, whereas there were qualitative differences in the case of offer. Second, there was a need for promoting a wide range of diverse synthetic relationships between words and visual mediators for developing enriched mathematical meanings through the varying uses like specification, explanation, similarity, and complement. These results are so important that they provide a new analytic framework from a discursive approach to textbook analysis because not only words, but also visual mediators are analyzed as tools for producing meanings in mathematics textbooks and their synthetic relationships are also examined.

  • According to the increase of audio and video data utilization, the presentation of multimedia data contents and the work of retrieving, storing and manipulating a multimedia data have been the focus of recent work. The display for multimedia data should retrieve and access the contents easily that users want to present. This study is about the design and implementation of a system to retrieve multimedia data based on the contents of documentation or the caption information of a multimedia data for retrieving documentation including multimedia data. It intends to develop an filtering step to retrieve all of keyword within the caption information of multimedia data and text of a documentation. Also, the system is designed to retrieve a large amount of data quickly using an inverted file structure available for B+ tree.
