Metadata Mapping for Image Retrieval in Distributed Web Environments (분산 웹 환경에서 이미지 검색을 위한 메타데이타 매핑)

  • Image metadata is used to describe the contents, structures, and features of a given image data. There exist lots of image metadata-related standards. Such image metadata need to be shared to efficiently search the correct images in Web Service-enabled distributed environments. In this thesis, we propose an interoperable system architecture for utilizing image metadata and query extension methods using metadata mapping for correct and efficient image searching. In the proposed methods, the provider schema using non-standard image metadata are mapped into the schema based on the VRA standard, which is used as a basic and intermediary standard in MDR(MetaData Registry). We support mapping operations between the VRA standard and other standards, to reduce the number of unnecessary mapping operations and to enable easier addition of schema based on new standards. Using the proposed query processing methods, which utilize image metadata and overcome their heterogeneity by metadata mapping, it is possible to severely improve the correctness of image retrieval. To show the usefulness of our schemes, we implemented a prototype system and performed retrieval performance evaluation on extended query processing.

  • In the semistructured distributed documents, it is very difficult to formalize and implement the query processing system due to the lack of structure and rule of the data. In order to precisely retrieve and process the heterogeneous semistructured documents, it is required to handle multiple mappings such as 1:1, 1:W and W:1 on an element simultaneously and to generate the schema from the distributed documents. In this paper, we have proposed an query processing algorithm for querying and answering on the heterogeneous semistructured data or documents over distributed systems and implemented with a metadata interface. The algorithm for generating local queries from the global query consists of mapping between g1oba1 and local nodes, data transformation according to the mapping types, path substitution, and resolving the heterogeneity among nodes on a global input query with metadata information. The mapping, transformation, and path substitution algorithms between the global schema and the local schemas have been implemented the metadata interface called DBXMI (for Distributed Documents XML Metadata Interface). The nodes with the same node name and different mapping or meanings is resolved by automatically extracting node identification information from the local schema automatically. The system uses Quilt as its XML query language. An experiment testing is reported over 3 different OEM model semistructured restaurant documents. The prototype system is developed under Windows system with Java and JavaCC compiler.

  • 정보기술은 통신 및 멀티미디어 기술의 발전에 힘입어 빠르게 발전되고 있으며, 이에 따른 데이타베이스의 기술이 공간데이타, XML, 비디오, 음성과 같은 다양한 멀티미디어 데이터 분야에 적용되고 있다. 비디오 데이타는 순차적인 특성을 가지며, 시간과 공간정보가 결합된 3차원 데이타로서 처리시간이 높은 작업이기 때문에 검색이나 브라우징이 대단히 비효율적이다. 본 논문에서는 비주얼리듬을 이용하여 비디오 데이타에서 대표 프레임(Key Frame)을 추출한 다음 XML을 이용한 태그 및 키워드 정보를 대표 프레임에 삽입하여 검색이나 브라우징을 할 수 있는 동영상 내용편집 도구(Authoring Tool for Video Contents)를 제안한다. 비주얼리듬은 3차원의 시공간적인 정보를 2차원으로 매핑한 정보로 IDCT(inverse Discrete Cosine Transform)과정 없이 픽셀 정보를 얻을 수 있어 처리속도가 빠르며 컷, 와이프, 디졸브 등의 편집효과를 효과적으로 구분할 수 있다. 그리고 XML 데이타에는 태그 및 정보와 함께 대표 프레임의 정보까지 저장되므로 유사 화면 검색이나 내용 기반 검색을 제공할 수 있다.

Integrated Information Retrieval with Metadata Interface for Heterogeneous Distributed XML Documents (메타정보 인터페이스를 이용한 이질 구조 분석 XML문서 통합 검색)

  • We propose an extremely light DDXMI approach for semi-automated integration of both structurally and semantically heterogeneous distributed XML documents. In the proposed prototype, a DDXMI(Distributed Documents XML Metadata Interface) is defined and a user interface generator is developed. The prototype takes sources' DTDs as inputs and generates a friendly graphical user interface for the application users. The user can easily describe the semantic mapping between the integrated virtual database DTD and sources' DTDs through assigning index numbers and specifying associated function names so that the DDXMI based on the mappings is automatically generated. Quilt is selected as the XML query language which processes user queries according to the DDXMI. It is assumed that the application users know what they want from the different sources, that is, they have their own integrated database schema in their mind, and know the semantics of the involved XML databases. A small-size global DTD and a mid-size global DTB are generated to verify the rluery generation and retrieval results with 3 XML document databases, that is, Master/ph.D thesis, research reports, and journal databases. The system has been developed with JavaCC and Java Servelet.

  • 본 논문에서는 객체지향 패러다임의 구조적 특성을 적용하여 만든 시소러스를 이용하여 웹 자원의 의미적 연관성을 RDF 형식으로 표현할 수 있는 RDF 문서 자동 생성기를 소개한다. 객체지향 시소러스를 RDF 형식으로 나타내기 위해 시소러스에 사용된 객체와 관계의 내용을 명세한 네임 스페이스를 정의하여 시맨틱 웹에서 메타데이타를 기술하는 표준이 되는 RDF와 RDF Schema 형식으로 매핑할 수 있다. 이러한 연구를 통해 객체지향 시소러스의 내용을 RDF 형식으로 표현함으로써 지식베이스(KnowledgeBase)라 불리는 온톨로지를 생성할 수 있으며, 구축된 온톨로지는 시맨틱 웹 상의 에이전트나 다른 어플리케이션에 응용될 수 있다.

Using Core Components to Design Semantic Libraries (코어 컴포넌트 기반 시맨틱 라이브러리의 설계)

  • Semantic libraries can be used for EDI messages to exchange by implementing the semantic dictionaries. This paper describes the design information of semantic libraries for the field engineers to implement the semantic dictionary using metadata. The components of semantic libraries are semantic elements, semantic units and mapping tables. The basic characteristics and design methods related implementing are proposed. Also the metadata semantic dictionaries including the components and rules are introduced.

Efficient Browsing Method based on Metadata of Video Contents (동영상 컨텐츠의 메타데이타에 기반한 효율적인 브라우징 기법)

  • The advancement of information technology along with the proliferation of communication and multimedia has increased the demand of digital contents. Video data of digital contents such as VOD, NOD, Digital Library, IPTV, and UCC are getting more permeated in various application fields. Video data have sequential characteristic besides providing the spatial and temporal information in its 3D format, making searching or browsing ineffective due to long turnaround time. In this paper, we suggest ATVC(Authoring Tool for Video Contents) for solving this issue. ATVC is a video editing tool that detects key frames using visual rhythm and insert metadata such as keywords into key frames via XML tagging. Visual rhythm is applied to map 3D spatial and temporal information to 2D information. Its processing speed is fast because it can get pixel information without IDCT, and it can classify edit-effects such as cut, wipe, and dissolve. Since XML data save key frame information via XML tag and keyword information, it can furnish efficient browsing.

FolksoViz: A Subsumption-based Folksonomy Visualization Using the Wikipedia (FolksoViz: Wikipedia 본문을 이용한 상하위 관계 기반 폭소노미 시각화 기법)

  • Folksonomy, which is created through the collaborative tagging from many users, is one of the driving factors of Web 2.0. Tags are said to be the web metadata describing a web document. If we are able to find the semantic subsumption relationships between tags created through the collaborative tagging, it can help users understand the metadata more intuitively. In this paper, targeting del.icio.us tag data, we propose a method named FolksoViz for deriving subsumption relationships between tags by using Wikipedia texts. For this purpose, we propose a statistical model for deriving subsumption relationships based on the frequency of each tag on the Wikipedia texts, and TSD(Tag Sense Disambiguation) method for mapping each tag to a corresponding Wikipedia text. The derived subsumption pairs are visualized effectively on the screen. The experiment shows that our proposed algorithm managed to find the correct subsumption pairs with high accuracy.

  • The enterprise system is becoming more complex and larger. With the changes of the times, the system is developing to object-oriented programming method(OOP). However, the same code inserts to the core class repetitiously in the OOP, that causes a decrease in productivity and a trouble of application of another requirement. To solve this weak point, we propose a weaving mechanism what applies to metadata and crosscutting concern. For a class optimization and an integration between different languages, we take the following way. This paper uses three ways, those are, metadata generation using reflection, transformation to Abstract Syntax Tree, and mapping through crosscutting information specified XML. Through the proposed theory, class optimization can be accomplished by solving a functional decentralization and a confusion of codes.
