An Efficient P2P Based Proxy Patching Scheme for Large Scale VOD Systems (대규모 VOD 시스템을 위한 효율적인 P2P 기반의 프록시 패칭 기법)

  • The main bottleneck for large scale VOD systems is bandwidth of storage or network I/O due to the large number of client requests simultaneously, and then efficient techniques are required to solve the bottleneck problem of the VOD system. Patching is one of the most efficient techniques to overcome the bottleneck of the VOD system through the use of multicast scheme. In this paper, we propose a new patching scheme, called P2P proxy patching, for improving the typical patching technique by jointly using the prefix caching and P2P proxy. In our proposed scheme, each client plays a role in a proxy to multicast a regular stream to other clients that request the same video stream. Due to the use of the P2P proxy and the prefix caching, the client requests that ive out of the patching window range can receive the regular stream from other clients in the previous patching group without allocating the new regular channels from the VOD server to the clients. In the performance study, we show that our patching scheme can reduce the server bandwidth requirement about $33\%$ less than that of the existing patching technique with respect to prefix size and request interval.

  • The perforrnance and portability of mobile applications can be greatly increased by adopting proxy modiles which exists between the conventional system and the device. When mobile devices collaborate with the conventional computers, there are problems to address: a battery life problem, limited input and output methods, and intermittent wireless connection. Those issues are magnified in the multimedia collaboration environment since it works in a real-time condition and the size of the message in the system is big in many cases. Additionally, because multimedia collaboration system softwares are too heavy and complex for mobile devices, it is veη hard to integrate them with conventional systems. In this paper, we describe our design and its implementation of a novel approach to map events (i.e. messages) using a proxy for mobile applications. We adopt a proxy to provide a content adaptation (i.e. transcoding) where the message contents are customized. Also, we design a mobile version publish/subscribe system to provide communication service for mobile device in loosely coupled and flexible manner. We present our empirical results which show that our design can be efficiently implemented and integrated with a conventional multimedia collaboration system.

  • 이동 컴퓨팅 환경에서 미디어 서비스를 할 경우 일반 웹 서비스와는 달리 설러 가지 문제들이 발생한다 예를 들면 무선망의 특성상 네트워크 대역폭이 낮고, 네트워크 단절이 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 무선망의 이런 특성에도 불구하고 이동 컴퓨팅 환경에서 실시간 멀티미디어 서비스를 무선 단말에 원활하게 제공하는 방법으로 two-tiered proxy system을 제안한다. 그리고, 효율적인 캐시 관리 메커니즘과 효과적인 handoff를 지원하기 위한 proxy transfer protocol를 또한 제안한다.

  • This paper proposes a multihoming-based vertical handover scheme using Proxy binding update to minimize handover delay and packet loss while a mobile node moves to a heterogeneous access network. When a mobile node moves to a heterogeneous access network, the proposed scheme can provide a mobile node with fast and seamless handover by performing layer-3 handover using its new interface while the other interface is still communicating in the old access network. The proposed Proxy binding update is different from the Mobile IP binding update in that it includes home addres (HoA) of the old interface instead of the new interface. The performance analysis shows that the proposed scheme can efficiently reduce vertical handover delay and packet loss.

  • 최근 컴퓨팅 환경의 변화와 함께, 무선 환경에서 발생할 수 있는 다양한 제약사항들을 극복할 수 있는 적응형 시스템에 대한 연구 필요성이 갈수록 높아지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존에 다양한 방법으로 연구되고 있는 적응형 시스템들의 단점을 보완하고, 장점을 취합하여, 클라이언트와 프록시 서버에 작업 모듈을 적절히 분산시킨 Hybrid형 시스템을 제안한다. 제안시스템은 주변상황을 인식하고, 이에 대한 대응방안을 결정하는 작업은 클라이언트에서 수행하며, 미디어 콘텐츠를 직접 변경하는 적응 작업은 상대적으로 리소스가 풍부한 프록시 서버에서 수행한다. 이를 통해, 클라이언트와 프록시 서버는 적응에 대한 계산 부하를 적절히 나누어 갖게 되며, 미디어 콘텐츠의 조절뿐만 아니라 실행되고 있는 애플리케이션의 파라매터도 조절이 가능해진다. 또한 클라이언트는 단지 결정에 대한 지시만을 서버로 전송함으로써, 전송되는 메시지의 양을 줄일 수 있고 작업내역과 같은 개인정보 유출을 방지할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 제안 시스템을 멀티미디어 통신인 '화상회의시스템'에 적용하여 기능을 실험하였으며, 기존의 적응형 시스템들과 기능적 비교를 통해 본 시스템의 유효성을 평가하였다.

  • In the maritime ships or airplanes, users should utilize the satellite channel in orer to use web service. However, the satellite channel is costly and does not give users satisfied response time. In the ship, the users may receive plenty of extra data when they obtain internet news. The extra data may be unnecessary image and advertise. Therefore, they should pay unnecessary data usage charges as well. In this paper, we suggest a proxy model that solves the problem of cost and speed. The proposed proxy reduces the of data through the satellite link by image and advertising blocking, caching, image re-requesting functions. It's performance was tested by a real satellite communication.

Patching is one of the most efficient techniques to overcome the bottleneck of the VOD system through the use of multicast scheme. In this paper, we propose a new patching scheme, P2P proxy patching, for improving the typical patching technique by jointly using the proxy prefix caching scheme and the P2P proxy. In our proposed scheme, each client play a role in a proxy for multicasting a regular stream to other clients that request the same stream. Due the use of the P2P proxy and the prefix caching, the server bandwidth is required significantly less than that of the typical patching technique. In the performance study, we show that our patching scheme can reduce the server bandwidth requirements compared with the existing patching techniques.

The Overload Control Scheme Using a Delay Queue in the SIP Signalling Networks (SIP 시그널링 네트워크에서 지연 큐를 이용한 과부하 제어 방법)

  • The SIP(Session Initation Protocol) is an application layer protocol that is used to establish, release, and change the call session of the IP telephony. In the SIP signalling networks, when the number of the UA(User Agent) requested the call session increase, the number of messages to be processed by SIP proxy server increase. It often will be caused the overload of the SIP proxy server. In this paper, we proposed the overload control method with a normal queue and a delay queue in the SIP proxy server. When it is estimated the overload of the server by the excess of the high threshold in the normal queue, new INVITE messages will be put into the delay queue to reduce the load of the server. It results in some delay of the call session from the INVITE message. Subsequently when the number of messages in the normal queue is reduced below the low threshold, the INVITE messages in the delay queue is processed. The simulation results showed that the number of the retransmission messages by our proposed method was 45% less than the one by the method with single queue. The results also showed that the average call success rate by the proposed method was 2% higher than the one by the method with single queue.

  • 무선환경과 모바일 기기의 발달되고, 모바일 단말기의 보편화로 인해 유선환경에서 제공되던 각종 멀티미디어 서비스가 무선환경으로 옮겨가고 있다. 기존의 웹캐쉬 정책은 그 성능을 이미 검증 받았다. 그러나 그런 정책들은 인기도와 네트워크의 상태만을 고려했기 때문에 무선환경에서는 적합하지 않다. 본 논문에서는 무선환경에서 모바일 호스트의 이동성과 미디어 스트림의 특성을 고려한 캐쉬 교체 정책인 M-LRU를 제안한다. 그리고, 시뮬레이션을 통하여 기존의 LRU정책과 제안한 M-LRU 정책을 비교하였으며, 8-9%의 성능향상이 되었다는 것을 보여준다.

  • Recently, dynamic proxy caching has been proposed on the distributed environment so that media objects by user's requests can be served directly from the proxy without contacting the server. However, it makes caching challenging due to multimedia large sizes, low latency and continuous streaming demands of media objects. To solve the problems caused by streaming demands of media objects, this paper has been proposed the grouping scheme with fuzzy filtering based on partition and mapping. For partition and mapping, this paper divides media block segments into fixed partition reference block(R$_f$P) and variable partition reference block(R$_v$P). For semantic relationship, it makes fuzzy relationship to performs according to the fixed partition temporal synchronization(T$_f$) and variable partition temporal synchronization(T$_v$). Simulation results show that the proposed scheme makes streaming service efficiently with a high average request response time rate and cache hit rate and with a low delayed startup ratio compared with other schemes.
