VLSI Design of a Bus Interface Controller for 32-bit RISC microprocessor (32비트 RISC 마이크로프로세서를 위한 버스 인터페이스 제어기의 설계)

  • 본 논문에서는 DSP 기능을 내장한 32비트 RISC 마이크로프로세서를 위한 버스 제어기를 설계하였다. 연구의 초점은 버스 타이밍, 주소 멀티플렉싱, 리프레쉬, 버스 중재 등을 제어하는 버스제어기를 온칩화 하여 CPU로 하여금 외부 램과 추가적인 장치없이 직접 연결될 수 있도록 한 것이다. 버스 제어기가 관리하는 메모리의 종류는 SRAM, ROM, DRAM, EDO DRAM이며 고속 모드(Fast page mode, EDO page mode 및 RAS-down mode)기능을 지원하며 다양한 Wait를 넣을 수 있다. 주소 영역은 4가지(EMAO-EMA3)이며 내부적으로 7개 의 레지스터가 있고 이들을 이용하여 서로 연결된 세 개의 상태 머신으로 모든 램과의 타이밍을 제어함으로써 공유블록을 활용할 수 있었다. Verilog HDL의 기술하고 Synopsys로 합성한 후 타이밍 검증을 수행한 결과 최악조건에서 53.1㎒로 동작할 수 있었다. 그 후 0.6㎛ single poly triple metal process 공정으로 레이아웃 되었고 면적은 44㎜ × 1.21㎜ 이다.

Design of Low-Power Media Bus (저전력 미디어 버스 설계)

  • The audio data have been communicated using analog methods or simple protocols. However, with the advent and improvement of various multimedia functions, many audio devices have been integrated into a mobile handset in which interconnection lines are very complicated. Conventional point-to-point connections such as $I^2S$ and PCM demand more power consumption whenever more devices are attached. In this paper, we design a common bus digital audio interface that communicates with only two wires and employs the clock gear method to reduce bus power consumption. The comparison results show that the proposed common bus connection can reduce more than 30% of power consumption as compared with point-to-point connection if more than three devices are connected.

  • In this paper, shared memory feature was developed in multi-core system with different OS for different processor-specific bus, while conducting an experiment on shared memory feature between the two processors based on embedded Linux system. For the purpose of developing shared memory in dual bus structure, memory controller was used, while managing shared memory segment through list data structure. For AMP multi-core test, Linux OS was installed in 2 processor cores. In addition, it verified the creation and use of shared memory by using kernel module implemented to test shared memory.

Design of FPGA Camera Module with AVB based Multi-viewer for Bus-safety (AVB 기반의 버스안전용 멀티뷰어의 FPGA 카메라모듈 설계)

  • In this paper, we proposed a multi-viewer system with multiple HD cameras based AVB(Audio Video Bridge) ethernet cable using IP networking, and FPGA(Xilinx Zynq 702) for bus safety systems. This AVB (IEEE802.1BA) system can be designed for the low latency based on FPGA, and transmit real-time with HD video and audio signals in a vehicle network. The proposed multi-viewer platform can multiplex H.264 video signals from 4 wide-angle HD cameras with existed ethernet 1Gbps. and 2-wire 100Mbps cables. The design of Zynq 702 based low latency to H.264 AVC CODEC was proposed for the minimization of time-delay in the HD video transmission of car area network, too. And the performance of PSNR(Peak Signal-to-noise-ratio) was analyzed with the reference model JM for encoding and decoding results in H.264 AVC CODEC. These PSNR values can be confirmed according the theoretical and HW result from the signal of H.264 AVC CODEC based on Zynq 702 the multi-viewer with multiple cameras. As a result, proposed AVB multi-viewer platform with multiple cameras can be used for the surveillance of audio and video around a bus for the safety due to the low latency of H.264 AVC CODEC design.

  • 정보 통신 기술의 발달이 가속화되면서 주문형 비디오, 홈쇼핑, 원격 강의와 같은 멀티미디어 서비스의 제공이 현실화되고 있다. 이러한 멀티미디어 서비스를 댁내(in-home)까지 제공하기 위해서는 쉬운 망 관리, 고품질의 서비스 제공, 보안, 설치 및 사용의 용이성, 다양한 토폴로지 제공 둥과 같은 여러가지 요구사항들을 정립해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 댁내 통신 표준과 기술 개발 동향을 간단히 살펴보고, 댁내 통신망 구현에 관련된 여러 가지 요구 사항들을 체계적으로 정립하였다. 그리고, 최근 두각을 나타내고 있는 IEEE 1394 고성능 직렬버스 표준을 댁내 통신망 구현 기술로서 활용하고자 하는 경우 이러한 요구 사항을 얼마나 충족시켜줄 수 있는가를 분석하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 기존의 설계 방법의 문제점을 해결하기 위한 설계 방법인 플랫폼 기반 설계에서 사용할 수 있는 DSP 기반 플랫폼을 구현하였다. 구현된 DSP 기반 플랫폼을 AMBA AHB 버스를 바탕으로한 듀얼프로세서 플랫폼과 crossbar switch 구조의 버스 구조를 가지고 4개의 프로세서를 연결한 멀티프로세서 플랫폼으로 확장하여 검증함으로서 이질적인 환경에서 동작함을 나타내었다. 멀티프로세서 플랫폼에서는 DVB-T baseband 수신기를 HW/SW 분할 구현하고 성능 평가를 수행하였다. DSP 기반 플랫폼은 유연성, 확장성, 고속의 연산의 특징을 가진다.

An Improvement of Implementation Method for Multi-Layer AHB BusMatrix (ML-AHB 버스 매트릭스 구현 방법의 개선)

  • In the System on a Chip design, the on chip bus is one of the critical factors that decides the overall system performance. Especially, in the case or reusing the IPs such as processors, DSPs and multimedia IPs that requires higher bandwidth, the bandwidth problems of on chip bus are getting more serious. Recently ARM proposes the Multi-Layer AHB BusMatrix that is a highly efficient on chip bus to solve the bandwidth problems. The Multi-Layer AHB BusMatrix allows parallel access paths between multiple masters and slaves in a system. This is achieved by using a more complex interconnection matrix and gives the benefit of increased overall bus bandwidth, and a more flexible system architecture. However, there is one clock cycle delay for each master in existing Multi-Layer AHB BusMatrix whenever the master starts new transactions or changes the slave layers because of the Input Stage and arbitration logic realized with Moore type. In this paper, we improved the existing Multi-Layer AHB BusMatrix architecture to solve the one clock cycle delay problems and to reduce the area overhead of the Input Stage. With the elimination of the Input Stage and some restrictions on the arbitration scheme, we tan take away the one clock cycle delay and reduce the area overhead. Experimental results show that the end time of total bus transaction and the average latency time of improved Multi-Layer AHB BusMatrix are improved by $20\%\;and\;24\%$ respectively. in ease of executing a number of transactions by 4-beat incrementing burst type. Besides the total area and the clock period are reduced by $22\%\;and\;29\%$ respectively, compared with existing Multi-layer AHB BusMatrix.

  • Recently, virtual human has been widely used in various fields such as education, training, information guide. In addition, it is expected to be applied to services that interact with remote users in metaverse. In this paper, we propose a novel method to make a virtual human' interaction to perceive the user's surroundings. We use the editing authoring tool to apply user's interaction for providing the virtual human's response. The virtual human can recognize users' situations based on fuzzy, present optimal response to users. With our interaction method by context awareness to address our paper, the virtual human can provide interaction suitable for the surrounding environment based on automatic adaptation.

  • As the interest in the 4th industrial revolution and metaverse increases, metaverse with multi edge structure is proposed and noted. Metaverse is a structure that can create digital doctor-like system through a large amount of image processing and data transmission in a multi edge system. Since metaverse application requires calculating performance, which can reconstruct 3-D space, edge hardware's insufficient calculating performance has been a problem. To provide streamable AI software in runtime, image processing, and data transmission, which is edge's loads, needs to be lightweight. Also lightweight at the edge leads to power consumption reduction of the entire metaverse application system. In this paper, we propose collaborative edge-cloud image processing with remote image processing method and Region of Interest (ROI) to overcome edge's power performance and build streamable and runtime executable AI software. The proposed structure was implemented using a PC and an embedded board, and the reduction of time, power, and network communications were verified.

  • 차량 내에 장착되는 전장품의 기능과 성능의 중요성은 점점 중요해지고 있다. 이에 따라, 자동차 내의 멀티미디어 기기인 오디오, 내비게이터, 스피커 등을 네트워크로 연결하여 사용자 편의성을 증대하고 첨단화 하는 시도로써 MOST(media oriented systems transport) 네트워크가 제안 되었다 네트워크 통합화의 추세에 따라, 멀티미디어 전용 네트워크인 MOST를 차량용 제어 네트워크인 CAN에 접속하여 그 성능을 평가한다.
