Service Platform of Grid Systems for Ubiquitous Multimedia Applications (유비쿼터스 멀티미디어 응용을 위한 그리드 시스템의 서비스 플랫폼)

  • Advances in wireless network are enabling the development of ubiquitous multimedia services. These multimedia services need efficient platforms to comply with the requirements of mobile computing. We introduce an adaptive service platform based on mobile agent and grid systems while specifying the challenges of ubiquitous multimedia services and focusing on frequent disconnections and scarce resources. We applied our platform to framework RtoA (Ready-to-Attend) which supports mobile users to access compute-intensive multimedia service, specifically, mobile education and video conferencing. RtoA includes hand-off, speaker and listener service which enable people to attend a conference or a class with satisfying quality of multimedia service. ns-2 based simulation verifies that our scheme is an efficient way to reduce energy consumption of mobile devices and to improve the response time of mobile applications.

A Multimedia Presentation Authoring System based on Conceptual Temporal Relations (개념적 시간관계 기반의 멀티미디어 프레젠테이션 저작 시스템)

  • Every conceptual temporal rat relationship can be described using one of seven relations (before, meets, overlaps, during, starts, finishes, and equals ). The conceptual representation provides an efficient means for our multimedia authoring system to automatically fill in the necessary timing details. We developed a multimedia Presentation authoring system that supports a mechanism for conceptually representing the temporal relations of different media. Among the many editors that make up our system, the temporal relation editor provides users with an intuitive mechanism for representing the conceptual flow of a presentation by simple and direct graphical manipulations. Our system is based on the SMIL(Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language). The conceptual temporal relation editor and other editors of our system exchange their information in real-time and automatically generate SMIL codes through the SMIL Object Manager. Our system uses TRN(Temporal Relation Network) as its internal multimedia presentation representation. The TRN corresponds exactly to the structure seen in the graphical representation of the presentation. A parallel relationship found in a TRN can be collapsed into a single synchronization block. This facilitates the determination of the playing time of each component and can be the basic unit for reusability of already prepared blocks of presentation code.

Design and Implementation of a CORBA/JMF-based Audio/Video Stream System (CORBA/JMF 기반 오디오/비디오 스트림 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • Recently advances in high-speed networks and multimedia computer technologies allow new types of multimedia applications to manipulate large volumes of multimedia data. However, in the real time and/or the heterogeneous data transmissions, there are many difficulties such as network transmission delay, the implementation difficulties, and so on. To solve these problems, in this paper, we extend the method of the multimedia service design which is proposed by OMG. To do this, we suggest an efficient real time audio/video stream framework, called Smart Explorer, based un CORBA and JMF Java Media API. And we separate the transmission path of control data from that of media data and use RTP/RTCP protocol for efficient real time audio/video transmission. Also we show the appropriate implementation of the audio/video stream system based on our suggested framework Smart Explorer. In the future, we expect our audio/video stream system to be applied to the real time communication software such as broadcasting, distance learning, and video conferencing.

A Local Buffer Allocation Scheme for Multimedia Data on Linux (리눅스 상에서 멀티미디어 데이타를 고려한 지역 버퍼 할당 기법)

  • The buffer cache of general operating systems such as Linux manages file data by using global block replacement policy and read ahead. As a result, multimedia data with a low locality of reference and various consumption rate have low cache hit ratio and consume additional buffers because of read ahead. In this paper we have designed and implemented a new buffer allocation algorithm for multimedia data on Linux. Our approach keeps one read-ahead cache per every opened multimedia file and dynamically changes the read-ahead group size based on the buffer consumption rate of the file. This distributes resources fairly and optimizes the buffer consumption. This paper compares the system performance with that of Linux 2.4.17 in terms of buffer consumption and buffer hit ratio.

  • In this article, the protection system on wireless mobile communication circumstance for the information providers and the users is recommended. Because of its usefulness and convenience, the users of the wireless mobile communication are growing explosively. However, the function of protecting data systems is not secured enough so, personal information may disclose to the outside, regardless of one's intention. Therefore, the contents protection system, which can provide information to the user or hide it depending on user's identity, is suggested. If so, the providers and the users can trust each other for interchanging information, also the users may safely use contents menu whatever they want by doing simple certification process.

  • 본 논문은 분산환경에서 객체 공유를 통하여 서로 다른 전문가들의 협력 작업과 개발팀 구성원간에 정보 공유, 상호의존적 업무 수행, 공동의 산출물 생성등의 작업을 지원하는 공유시스템의 설계 및 구현에 관한 것이다. 분산 공유 시스템은 ITU-T의 멀티미디어 회의 국제 표준인 T.130 시리즈를 근간으로 회의 세션관리, 동적 참여와 발언권 제어를 하는 회의 제어기, 멀티 캐스팅 통신을 지원하는 다자간 통신서비스, 응용프로그램 객체를 공유하게 하는 공유 기법으로 중앙 집중형 구조를 갖는 GUI 공유 방식과 복제 구조를 지원하기 위하여 이벤트 공유 방식을 지원하는 원격제어기가있으며 사용자 정보와 공유시 필요한 정보 관리를 위한 데이터베이스 프로세서로 구성되어 있다. 따라서 각 구성요소에 대한 설명과 전송량이 많은 GUI공유기에서 시스템 성능 향상의 주된요소인 네트워크 부하를 줄이는 셀(cell)단위의 전송 메커니즘에 대하여 기술하고 있다.

  • With the development of networks, multimedia communication has expanded its application field. From the remote control for household electric appliances to medicine, games, video conferencing and multimedia chatting, multimedia communication is being used in all parts of our lives. This multimedia communication requires the transmission of a lot of data at high speed. But if the transmission rate of the communication network exceeds the processing speed of being used in the high speed network environment, a bottleneck occurs in each node and deteriorates the performance of the network. This is the main reason for the slow speed of data transmission and packet loss. In this paper, considering the client's processing performance, reception performance was predicted and the way of flow control was shown. The computing performance of relevant Processor and its performance was estimated through the actual implementation.

  • 사이버 박물관과 같은 응용 분야에서는 기존의 단순 속성, 텍스트 키워드 검색 이외에 색상, 형태, 질감과 같은 이미지 특징을 기반으로 하는 효율적인 내용-기반 검색이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 사이버 박물관을위한 내용-기반 멀티미디어 정보검색 시스템을 설계 및 구현한다. 이를 위해, 박물관 문화재중에서 특히 도자기 이미지 객체에 대해 색상과 형태에 기반한 효율적인 이미지 특징벡터 추출방법을 제안한다. 아울러, 단순 속성 검색에대해서는 B+-트리, 텍스트 키워드 검색에 대해서는 역화일 기법, 그리고 이미지 특징 검색에 대해서는 TV-트리(Telescopic Vector)를 지원하는 통합 검색 기법을 제안한다. 그리고 UNIX OS와 X11R5 라이브러리 환경에서 표준 C 언어를 사용하여 내용 -기반 멀티미디어 정보검색 시스템을 구현한다.

Mounted PCB Pattern Recognition System Using Neural Network (신경망을 이용한 실장 PCB 패턴인식 시스템)

  • 본 논문은 Wavelet 변환 영역에서 특징 벡터를 추출하여 ART2 신경회로망으로 실장 PCB 패턴을 인식하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. PCB 형태 정보는 Wavelet에 의해 주파수 영역으로 변환되고, 이들 계수 행렬로부터 특징 벡터로서 추출된다. ART2 신경회로망은 이러한 특징 벡터들을 입력벡터로 사용하여 인식한다. 실장 PCB 영상 55장을 사용하여 실험한 결고, 학습된 입력패턴은 물론 비학습 입력패턴에 대해서도 약 99%의 인식율을 얻었다. 또한 제안된 방법은 Wavelet 변환 영역사에서 수직, 수평, 대각선 정보만으로 특징 벡터를 구축함으로써 특징 추출 과정이 비교적 간단하고 특징 벡터의 수도 줄일 수 있어, 효과적인 특징벡터의 추출이 가능함을 보였다.

  • Because of the explosive growth of mobile devices and development of network technologies, HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) adaptive streaming has become a new trend in video delivery to provide efficient multimedia streaming services. As interest in personalized broadcasting grows, the study of interactive multimedia has been actively pursued. The interactive multimedia service is a method of playing media according to a scenario selected by the user. Providing the interactive multimedia service with the existing HTTP adaptive streaming causes switching delay and buffer underflow according to the point in time when the user selects the scenario while the client streams the interactive multimedia and therefore decreases the user QoE (Quality of Experience). In this paper, we propose an adaptive streaming scheme for interactive multimedia service in HTTP adaptive streaming to provide seamless playback. We design the architecture and prefetching scheme for interactive multimedia streaming.
