Effects of Total Mixed Ration with Wet Brewer's Grain on the Performance and Nutrient Utilization in Castrated Korean Black Goats (맥주박 첨가 섬유질 배합사료가 거세흑염소의 생산성 및 영양소 이용율에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Total Mixed Ration (TMR) with wet brewer's grain on feed intake, nutrient digestibility and nitrogen retention of castrated Korean black goat. For feeding trial, forty castrated Korean black goats were divided into four treatment groups, which were fed TMR containing 20, 30, 40% of wet brewer's grain. For digestibility trial, twelve castrated Korean black goats were allotted to treatments in four groups of three goats. Results are summarized as follows. Dry matter (DM) contents of TMR with wet brewer's grain was $63.35{\sim}66.02%$, that of crude protein was $14.49{\sim}15.36%$, Acid detergent fiber (ADF) and Neutral detergent fiber (NDF) were $28.24{\sim}29.08,\;53.27{\sim}54.85%$, each. These were not different by supplemental level of brewer's grain in TMR. However, Non-fibrous carbohydrate (NFC) contents were lower according to increase wet brewer's grain in TMR. Average daily gain of control group were higher than those from TMR with wet brewer's gain (p<0.05). Intake of DM, Organic matter (OM) and NFC of TMR supplemented with 20% of brewer's grain were higher than those of other treatments (p<0.05). Crude protein (CP) and digestible CP intake of TMR diets supplemented wet brewer's grain was intended to higher than those of a control group. Digestibilities of DM, OM and NDF in control group were higher than those from TMR with wet brewer's grain (p<0.05). Digestibilities of CP of TMR with supplemented wet brewer's grain was tend to be higher than those of a control group. Nitrogen retention of TMR supplemented wet brewer's grain was tend to be somewhat higher compared to the control group

The Effect of Alcohol Fermented Feedstuff Made of Byproducts on Fermentation Characteristics and Dry Matter Disappearance in the Rumen (비지박 및 맥주박을 이용한 알코올 발효사료의 반추위내 발효특성 및 건물 분해율에 미치는 영향)

  • A study was conducted to determine the effect of alcohol-fermented feedstuff formulated with byproducts on the fermentation characteristics and dry matter disappearance in the rumen. Dietary treatments were either a soybean curd-based alcohol-fermented feedstuff(AFS) and brewery grain-based alcohol-fermented feedstuff(AFB). The AFS and AFB are composed of 50% commercial beef cattle feed, 50% soybean curd dreg, 5% molasses and 0.5% yeast, and 25% commercial beef cattle feed, 25% brewery grain, 25% soybean curd dreg, 25% corn grit, 5% molasses and 0.5% yeast, respectively. The ruminally cannualted Korean cattle were utilized to investigate the change of ammonia, pH alcohol, volatile fatty acids, and DM digestibility at 0, 2, 4, 8 and 12 hr after feeding. The rumen ammonia concentrations were significantly lower in AFS and AFB with incubation time, especially at 6 hr incubation(AFS, 0.7 mg/dl; AFB, 1.5 mg/dl; control 2.5 mg/dl). Lower rumen pH was observed in AFS and AFB during the early stage of incubation, but no significant difference was found at late stage of incubation. The total VFA concentrations were not affected by diet treatments at 2 hr incubation time, but the concentration significantly decreased after that. The dry matter disappearance was significantly lower in AFS and AFB during the early stage of incubation. However, the dry matter disappearance of AFS and AFB was similar to that of control during the late stage of incubation. It is concluded that the industrial byproducts such as soybean curd dreg and brewery grain were effective materials to make an alcohol fermented feedstuffs and resulted in better fermentation characteristics in the rumen when both were applied to Hanwoo.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Total Mixed Ration(TMR) with wet brewer's grain on feed intake, nutrient digestibility and nitrogen retention of breeding Korean native goat. Twelve breeding Korean native goats were divided into four treatment groups, which were fed TMR containing 20, 30, 40% of wet brewer's grain and a control group fed concentrate feed and hay, respectively. Results are summarized as follows. Dry matter contents of TMR with wet brewer's grain was 61.46-65.81%, that of crude protein was 14.42-15.59%, ADF and NDF were 28.32-28.52, 53.46-54.16%, each. These were not different by supplemental level of brewer's grain in TMR. However, NFC contents were lower according to increase wet brewer's grain in TMR. Dry matter intake of TMR supplemented with 20% of brewer's grain was tend to be higher than those of control group. CP and digestible CP intake of TMR diets supplemented wet brewer's grain was intended to higher than those of a control group. NFC and digestible NFC intake were significantly higher in control group than in WBG40 treatment(p<0.05). Digestibilities of DM, ADF, NDF and NFC in control group were higher than those from TMR with wet brewer's grain(p<0.05). Digestibilities of CP of TMR with supplemented wet brewer's grain was tend to be higher than those of a control group. Nitrogen retention of TMR supplemented wet brewer's grain was tend to be somewhat higher compared to the control group

Brewers' Dried Grain as a Feed Additive for the Korean Rhinoceros Beetle, Allomyrina dichotoma (사료첨가제로서 맥주박이 장수풍뎅이 유충의 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • Edible insects have recently been increasingly promoted as a source of protein. As the number of farms rearing these insect increases, it is important to develop safe and nutritious feed sources to improve their commercial quality. The aim of the current study was to determine the effect of food by-products as feed supplements for the Korean rhinoceros beetle, Allomyrina dichotoma, which has been registered as a general food ingredient in Korea. We compared the effects of waste citrus peel, soybean curd cake, soybean oil meal, and brewers' dried grain on the growth of third instar larvae of A. dichotoma. Groups of larvae were fed with fermented sawdust and nine different combinations of the above by-products and the effects on their growth were measured until pupation. The highest survival rate was with feed supplemented with 10% brewers' dried grain (66.7%, p<0.05), and these larvae were also 26% heavier (p<0.05) than the control group that received no supplementation. In the 10% brewers' dried grain group, the larval period of third instar was shortened by almost 28 days (p<0.01) compared to the control group. Of all the groups, only that which was fed the brewers' dried grain supplement showed more than a 90% pupation rate (p<0.05). Therefore, brewers' dried grain may be useful as a source of feed for A. dichotoma.

Effects of Fermented Feedstuff with Wet Brewer’s Grain and Soybean on Fattening Performance and Carcass Grade in hanwoo Steers (맥주박 발효사료 및 대두의 급여가 한우 거세우의 육성성적 및 도체등급에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to examine the feeding effects of FFWBG (fermented feedstuff with wet brewer’s grain) and GS(grinding soybean) in Hanwoo steers. For this research, total twenty steers(average body weight : 455.7$\pm$25.9kg) were grouped into control(formula feed), T1(formula feed:FFWBG=60:40), T2(formula feed:GS=80:20), T3(formula feed:FFWBG:GS=50:40:10), and T4(formula feed: FFWBG:GS=40:40:20), each treatment was allocated to four steers. There was a tendency to be increased average daily gain in T1, T2, T3 and T4 compared with the control even though no statistical significance was found. The feed conversion of T1, T2, T3 and T4 were beneficially better than that of control(P<0.05; 8.25, 9.44, 6.69 and 7.71 vs 11.90, respectively). The blood urea nitrogen concentration of T4 was higher than that of control(P<0.05), but the creatinine concentration of T4 was lower than that of control(P<0.05). The glucose concentration of T1, T2, T3 and T4 were higher than that of control(P<0.05; 59.39, 62.44, 62.17 and 54.00 vs 51.00mg/$d\ell$, respectively). The back-fat thickness of T3 was thicker than that of control, T1, T2 and T4. The rib-eye area of T1, T3 and T4 was wider than that of control. Appearances percentage of ‘A’ ranked meat quantity were 66, 33, 75 and 33% in control, T1, T2 and T4, respectively.

Effect of brewers dried grain as a nutrient supplement in plastic vinyl bag cultivation of maitake (Grifola frondosa S. F. Gray) (잎새버섯 봉지재배시 영양원으로서 맥주박 효과)

  • This study was performed to determine most appropriate mixed ratio of brewers dried grain to wheat bran as a nutrient supplement in the plastic vinyl bag cultivation of Grifola frondosa. In the examination of an appropriate nutrient source, the IV substrate formulation (80 : 10 : 10, oak sawdust : wheat bran : brewers dried grain) resulted in 71.6 days to harvest and the highest yield of 142.6 g/bag. On the other hand, the investigation of the optimal mixing ratio of beer waste to wheat bran showed that the III substrate formulation (80 : 5 : 15, oak sawdust : wheat bran : brewers dried grain) resulted in the least days to harvest (61.8 days), with the highest yield of 140.8 g/bag.

  • The effect of the addition of various vegetable oils on the mycelial growth was studied. Most vegetable oils were proved to be stimulative for the mycelial growth, and the best mycelial growth (12 mg/ml) was obtained with the addition of cotton seed oil. Several agricultural wastes i.e., rice straw, peanut hull, sawdust, rice hull, cocoa hull, coffee waste and beer waste were empolyed as substrates for sporophore production of p. sajor-caju. The biological efficiency(BE) for sporophore productions of rice straw and peanut hull were 36.4% and 32.6%, respectively. The highest yield of sporophore was obtained from the mixture of rice straw (50%) and beer waste (50%)(BE 109.6%) followed by peanut hull (50%) and beer waste (50%)(BE; 74.5%).

Effect of dietary level of brewer's dried grain on growth Performance and digestibility in growing pigs (육성돈 사료내 건조 맥주박의 첨가수준에 따른 옥수수-대두박 대체급여가 생산성과 영양소 소화율에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary Hewer's dried grain supplementation on growth performance and digestibility in growing pigs. A total of forty-eight pigs (19.3 kg, average initial body weight) were used during 42 days. Dietary treatments included: 1) CON (basal diet), 2) BDG5 (basal diet + 5 % brewer's dried grain) and 3) BDC10 (basal diet + 10 % brewer's dried grain). Each treatment had 8 replicates of 2 pigs per pen in a randomized complete block design. Growth performance was not affected by treatments. However, in nutrient digestibility, DM digestibility was higher in BDG5 treatment than CON and BDG10 treatments. Nitrogen digestibility was the highest in BDG10 treatment and among another treatments, also, BDG5 treatment was higher than CON treatment. And, energy digestibility was higher in BDG10 treatment than CON treatment. In conclusion, dietary brewer's dried grain supplementation is not reduced on growth performance and improved on nutrient digestibility.
