  • The most important characteristic of Emile Bell's sound is a beating. It is modulation phenomenon which appears as a result of interference multiplication in time domain. This modulation phenomenon can be modeled as DSB-SC which suppress carrier and signals distributed both sides. The beatiog wave is observed in Laman distribution signal for polyvinyl speech signal, water vein wave, tide wave. The beating wave is caused by asymmetry Property of the bell.

  • In this paper. a new indirect feedback active noise control (ANC) scheme barred on the fundamental frequency estimation is proposed for systems with a harmonic noise. When reference signals necessary for feedforward ANC configuration are difficult to obtain, the conventional ANC algorithms for multi-tonal noise do not measure the reference signals but generate them with the estimated frequencies.$^{(4)}$ However, the beating phenomena, in which certain frequency components of the noise vanish intermittently, may make the adaptive frequency estimation difficult. The confusion in the estimated frequencies due to the beating phenomena makes the generated reference signals worthless. The proposed algorithm consists of two parts. The first part is a reference generator using the fundamental frequency estimation and the second one is the conventional feedforward control. We propose the fundamental frequency estimation algorithm using decision rules. which is insensitive to the beating phenomena. In addition, the proposed fundamental frequency estimation algorithm has good tracking capability and lower variance of frequency estimation error than that of the conventional cascade ANF method.$^{(4)}$ We are also able to control all interested modes of the noise, even which cannot be estimated by the conventional frequency estimation method because of the poor S/N ratio. We verify the performance of the proposed ANC method through simulations for the measured cabin noise of a passenger ship and the measured time-varying engine booming noise of a passenger vehicle.

  • Beating phenomenon which is generated by two closely located natural frequencies is one of research tenet for King Song-Dok bell. In this paper, we investigate the vibration shape of these natural frequencies using very extensive experimental data. Vibration signals are sampled at 108 points around the bell using accelerometers. Measured signals are anlayzed in time and frequency domain. Twelve natural shapes under 800Hz are plotted.

  • Helmet Mounted Display(HMD) has great advantages on the navigation and mission symbologies for the pilot's forward looking display and, therefore, has been remarkably drawing attention as the up coming display of the next generation aircraft. The essential technology to process the Line of Sight-Foward(LOS-F) data in real-time is to estimate exact helmet situation and position. In this paper, we research a acoustic helmet tracking technique. For the reason that mechanical acoustic noises might interfere with Helmet Tracking System(HTS) and unnecessary acoustic noises are inevitable when using acoustic technique, this approach has not been adapted. In order to overcome this problem. We propose that acoustic wave of which the wave length is longer than audio frequency and, especially, we used beating signal envelope which is composed of two close high frequency.

  • A wide dynamic range heterodyne interferometer scheme using intermode beat between a stabilized, dual frequency He-Ne laser beam has been applied for a measurement of optical thickness of an optical medium. Resolution of the optical thickness measurement is about $\pm$ 1.74 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Using this technique, we are able to determine the optical thickness of an organic dye film. We also obtain a map of the optical thickness variations over a surface of the film

  • We have constructed two extended-cavity diode lasers which are phase-locked with a 9.2 GHz frequency offset. We adopted a digital servo circuit for the phase-locking. The relative linewidth of the phase-locked lasers was less than 2 Hz. Using the measured beat spectrum, we found the carrier concentration to be about 93 %. We measured phase noise and relative frequency stability of the lasers. The Allan deviation at the gate time of 20 s was $2.7{\times}10^{-19}$.

  • In order to investigate the radiation of sound from the King Song-Duk bell, we measured the sound pressure around the bell at every 30$^{\circ}$ using a microphone line array which was composed of 30 microphones separated by 15cm;total number of measurement point was 360. The sound field was estimated by using cylindrical acoustic holography. The spectrum of measured sound pressure demonstrates that it is almost like white noise in the very beginning, but in 10 seconds two close frequency components(64.06Hz, 64.38Hz) remain and make a famous beating. This beating sound is often believed to make unique sound of the King Song-Duk bell. The mode shapes of that frequency components are the same except that one is rotated by 45$^{\circ}$ from the other. This phenomenon occurs at the other pairs of components are the same except ones in very high frequency range where the mode shapes are rather complex.

  • The binaural beat is a subjective beating phenomenon due to the frequency difference of sounds heard in both ears, sensed by the human brain. The beating magnitude physically depends on the amplitudes of the two signals with slight different frequencies. Therefore, the binaural beat strength is expected to be affected by the difference in left and right hearing ability. In this study, 34 healthy subjects without hearing loss were chosen. They hear a pure tone sound (450 Hz) at 10 different Sound Pressure Levels (SPLs) (from 50 dB to 27.4 dB) through the one side of ears, while they hear the reference sound (440 Hz, 50 dB) through the other side of ears. Their subjective assessment using a semantic differential method reveals that the binaural beat strength decreases as SPL differences between the two sides of ears increases, if the difference is greater than 2.2 dB. The result suggests that the hearing loss difference between the two sides of ears should be less than 2.2 dB to maximize binaural beating effects.
