  • Soaking and drying were studied for seven grains and legumes including glutinous rice, brown rice, glutinous brown rice, glutinous barley, Seoritae, Heuktae and red bean to improve taste of cooked mixed grams and make easy to cook then Seoritae and Heuktae showed the highest water absorption and the rest were in the order of glutinous barley, glutinous rice, milled rice, brown glutinous rice, brown rice, and red bean. In regards with water absorption index by soaking temperature, the higher the temperature showed, the more water absorption and the shorter time to reach the water absorption balance, the more grinding legumes. showed the more water absorption and the shorter time to reach to the water absorption balance. The soaked samples were dried at mom temperature $30^{\circ}\C,\;50^{\circ}\C$, and microwave 300 W, 700 W and 1000 W power. As a result 700 W drying method br microwave can dry samples in the shortest time without damage to the samples. Therefore, it was considered as the best pretreatment conditions for mixed stains to dry with 700 W microwave after one-hour soaking at $30^{\circ}C$.

  • The use of the microwave-assisted process for the extraction of effective constituents from ginseng was investigated at various operating conditions. The influence of solvent (ethanol-water, 50% v/v) to ginseng ratio, particle size and applied microwave power on the efficiency of extraction was examined. The microwave extraction system used was custom manufactured so that the intensity of microwave may be varied by using anode-voltage controller. It was found that the ratio of 6 : 1 (vol/mass) gave a good extraction efficiency. Small particle size gave high yield but it caused difficulties in the separation of solvent from the sludge. The higher power was no guarantee of the efficient extraction yield. The more important factor than the employed power was the adequate temperature under sufficient contact time. Using deionized-water as swelling agent, the degree of swelling of ginseng by microwave heating and conventional heating in water-bath was also studied. It was observed that the microwave heating enhanced the swelling much more than the conventional heating. It is believed that this enhanced swelling was responsible for the rapid microwave-assisted extraction rate.

  • An investigation was carried out to study the effects of aging time, storage temperature, and drying type on the physical, chemical and sensory properties of Korean rice cake. Water content and cooking properties were significantly influenced by aging time and storage temperature. However, aging time did not affect the soup turbidity. Difference in water content was noticeable by drying type. The microwave treated rice cake (MW) showed a higher water content than the other ones. The lightness (L-value) was not affected by the aging time and drying type. Rice cake storaged at 4oC showed the highest L-value. The textural properties of rice cake were influenced by the all sources of variables. There was a significant difference in hardness between microwave and hot air treated rice cake (MWH), and microwave and vacuum treated rice cake (MWV). In the sensory properties, mean intensities of all attributes except chewiness were significantly different among drying types. The MWV showed a higher acceptability than the MW and the MWH. Scanning electron photomicrographs revealed that the MWV has more porous structure. The MWV was the most desirable one as determined by the physical, chemical and sensory evaluation.

  • The microwave absorption ($P_{tot}$), which is the double integration value of ferromagnetic resonance signal, propositional to the saturation magnetization, and the increase of the $P_{tot}$ measured during the thermal reaction time expect the growth process of the nanoparticles. Therefore, in this work, we measured the $P_{tot}$ in order to obtain the growth time of iron oxide nanoparticles after thermal decomposition of $Fe(acac)_3$ precursor at aging temperature $T_a=273$, 300 and $324^{\circ}C$, respectively. The best condition for monodisperse nanoparticles was obtained at $T_a=300^{\circ}C$, which condition showed the most rapid increase of $P_{tot}$ with thermal reaction time. Finally, the rapid growth rate was necessary condition for the synthesis of iron-oxide monodisperse nanoparticles.

  • We measured the low field microwave absorption (LFMA) and ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) signals at various magnetic field angle in exchange biased CoFe/MnIr thin film. The LFMA signals were dominantly related to the magnetization rotation process. In order to analyze the LFMA signal, we calculated transverse magnetization ($M_{\tau}$) and permeability (${\mu}_{\tau}$) for CoFe/MnIr thin film by using S-W model, which magnetic parameters of exchange bias ($H_{ex}$ = 58.5 Oe) and uniaxial anisotropy field ($H_k$ = 30Oe) was obtained from FMR signals. The LFMA signal at hard axis showed similar behavior compared with that of $M_{\tau}$. As the magnetic field angle approach to the perpendicular to hard axis, the LFMA signals were depending on both of $M_{\tau}$ and ${\mu}_{\tau}$.

  • Plasma spraying method was used to fabricated the microwave absorbing ferrite-silicon carbide on the aluminum-alloy of the fuselage of an aircraft to protect it from RADAR detection. In this paper 15[rm] instead of 34[rm], the mean size of SIC-powder for ferrite-silicon carbide surface films(I) was used. 50(Kg/h) Instead of 70(Kg/h), the powder feed and 100[mm] Instead of 80(mm), spray distance of spray parameters was used. This M/W absorbers were designed experimentally and fabricated trially, as a result of which the relative frequency bandwidth of 2.8% were obtained under the tolerance limits of the reflection coefficients lower than-10[dB], and the maximum absorption thickness becomes 0.5[mm], which is much thinner than that of the conventional ones.

  • TThe purpose of this study was to investigate the physicochemical properties of chufa(Cyperus esculentus L., var sativus Boeck) starches by physical and chemical modification. Chufa starches were exposed to the microwave with 700W power oven for 1, 2, and 3 minutes. Also, starch was oxidized with 1.5%, 3% and 6% (15, 30, 60 mg Cl2/g starch $40^{\circ}\C$, pH 10, 3.0 hr) sodium hypochlorite. The shape of starch granules was not changed much by microwave heating and sodium hypochlorite. Water binding capacity increased but amylose content swelling power, and solubility decreased with increasing microwave heating time. Water binding capacity of the oxidized starch decreased with increasing the content of sodium hypochlorite. With increasing the microwave heating time, gelatinization temperature decreased, but enthalpy(${\Delta}H$) increased in physical modification of chufa starches. Also, chemically modified chufa starches have the similar pattern in gelatinization properties. Peak viscosities of RVA in physically modified chufa starches were 416-188 RVU, and in chemically modified chufa starches they were 129-267 RVU.

  • Dosimerty based on electron spin resonance (ESR) analysis of radiation induced free radicals in amino acids is relevant to biological dosimetry applications. Alanine detectors are without walls and are tissue equivalent. Therefore, alanine ESR dosimetry looks promising for use in the therapy level. The dose range of the alanine/ESR dosimetry system can be extended down to 1 Gy. In water phantom the absorbed dose of electrons generated by a medical linear accelerator of different initial energies $(6\~21MeV)$ and therapeutic dose levels (1~60 Gy) was measured. Furthermore, depth dose measurements carried out with alanine dosimeters were compared with ionization chamber measurements. As the results, the measured absorbed doses for shallow depth of initial electron energies above 15 MeV were higher by$2\~5\%$ than those calculated by nominal energy $C_E$ factors. This seems to be caused by low energy scattered beams generated from the scattering foil and electron cones of beam projecting device in medical linear accelerator.

  • As a method to measure the absorbing characteristics of microwave absorber, the various microwave measuring method can be used fundamentally. There is, however, a big problem in measuring errors, since the wavelength of microwave such as used for radar is very short. Therefore, this research aimed to design and fabricate a converting adaptor of 20mm .PHI. coaxial tube from a Type - N connector to $20mm\phi$ coaxial tube and to use it for evaluating absorption characteristics of microwave absorber. Furthermore, the measurements of absorbing characteristics and material constants have been performed and reviewed, which were carried out by using the coaxial tube and by using rectangular waveguide, res- pectively. As a result, the validity of the proposed measuring method has been confirmed.
