The polarimetric backscattering coefficients of a wet-land rice field which is an experimental plot belong to National Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology in Suwon are measured using ground-based polarimetric scatterometers at 1.8 and 5.3 GHz throughout a growth year from transplanting period to harvest period (May to October in 2006). The polarimetric scatterometers consist of a vector network analyzer with time-gating function and polarimetric antenna set, and are well calibrated to get VV-, HV-, VH-, HH-polarized backscattering coefficients from the measurements, based on single target calibration technique using a trihedral corner reflector. The polarimetric backscattering coefficients are measured at $30^{\circ},\;40^{\circ},\;50^{\circ}\;and\;60^{\circ}$ with 30 independent samples for each incidence angle at each frequency. In the measurement periods the ground truth data including fresh and dry biomass, plant height, stem density, leaf area, specific leaf area, and moisture contents are also collected for each measurement. The temporal variations of the measured backscattering coefficients as well as the measured plant height, LAI (leaf area index) and biomass are analyzed. Then, the measured polarimetric backscattering coefficients are compared with the rice growth parameters. The measured plant height increases monotonically while the measured LAI increases only till the ripening period and decreases after the ripening period. The measured backscattering coefficientsare fitted with polynomial expressions as functions of growth age, plant LAI and plant height for each polarization, frequency, and incidence angle. As the incidence angle is bigger, correlations of L band signature to the rice growth was higher than that of C band signatures. It is found that the HH-polarized backscattering coefficients are more sensitive than the VV-polarized backscattering coefficients to growth age and other input parameters. It is necessary to divide the data according to the growth period which shows the qualitative changes of growth such as panicale initiation, flowering or heading to derive functions to estimate rice growth.

In this theses, the procedure for finding the equivalent immittance of an n-line coupled structures is presented in terms of the normal mode parameters of the n-line coupled system. The above generalized equations can be applied to the various Coupled structures including directional couplers, DC blocks, bandpass/band elimination filters, and various other uniformly coupled filters. The design equations are based on a simplified TEM(Quasi TEM) mode. The obtained results and the definition of the scattering parameters for a general coupled line four port with arbitrary terminations are used to present the procedure to determine the optimum physical dimensions matching the given load impedances connected to input, output port. Multiple coupled rnicrostrip two-port with three lines circuit designed shows little discrepancy between the conventional method and this one. Four port with five lines were fabricated on teflon substrate($e$r=2.55) with its thickness h=l.588mm designed at the center frequency, 4 GHz. Their measured results are fairly close to the ones by computation.

A new design method of lossy matching network for the microwave broadband ampilfier is presented by using seattering parameters instead od modeling of transistor. A lossy matching network is represented as the combination of 2 lossless networks between which lossy serial or parallel immittance is inserted without using specific topology, and so many useful matching cireuits can be realized. Also it is shown that linear transforming relation exists between gain and reflection coefficient of the amplifier, and the transforming equation is derived using scattering parameters. With this equation some constant gain circles can be drawn on reflection coefficient plane to get adequate reflection coefficient and gain. And since the relations between amplifier gain/reflection coefficient and the immittance of passive element are bilinear transformations. constant gain or reflection coefficients circles. Illustrative examples are presented to show the usefulness of proposed method.

If we use the microwave of SAR, we can observe ocean in spite of severe weather or night time. The sea surface image of SAR has numerous information about atmospheric phenomena related to surface wind field. The extracted wind information from SAR can be used diversely. In order to extract sea wind speed from SAR image, a generated wind direction from SAR and sigma nought should be input into wind model. Therefore, wind speed can be obtained by input wind direction into CMOD5 Model. Azimuth angle using CMOD5 Model is generated by added $90^{\circ}$ to Look angle which is extracted from SAR data file. A gained wind direction spectrum from SAR image has $180^{\circ}$ ambiguity because of 2D-FFT. This ambiguity should decide to use the location of land, wind direction in field or the result of numerical model. Consequently, wind direction using 2D-FFT is $3^{\circ}{\sim}7^{\circ}$ differences with actual surveying data. Wind speed by CMOD5 model is similar to actual surveying data as below 2m/s.
In this paper, we proposed a high sensitivity sensor that can detect the concentration change of Nacl aqueous solutions by using a slot coupling capacitor resonator in sub-microwave band. The resonator applied to the sensor consists of a parallel plate capacitor connected to an inductive slot utilizing the ground plane of the microstrip line. Based on the measurement data of the dielectric characteristics according to the concentration change, the resonance frequency was determined in the UHF band where the concentration change is evident and the Nacl aqueous solution is inserted into the capacitor. Based on the simulation, the proposed resonator was designed and fabricated. The concentration level was varied from 0 to 400 mg/dl as 100 mg/dl step, and the transmission scattering coefficient ($S_{21}$) was successfully measured. Experimental results show that it is applicable to the concentration detection sensor in Nacl aqueous solution by obtaining minimum 1.8 dB($S_{21}$) at each step.
Sea surface wind is a fundamental element for understanding the oceanic phenomena and for analyzing changes of the Earth environment caused by global warming. Global research institutes have developed and operated scatterometers to accurately and continuously observe the sea surface wind, with the accuracy of approximately ${\pm}20^{\circ}$ for wind direction and ${\pm}2m\;s^{-1}$ for wind speed. Given that the spatial resolution of the scatterometer is 12.5-25.0 km, the applicability of the data to the coastal area is limited due to complicated coastal lines and many islands around the Korean Peninsula. In contrast, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), one of microwave sensors, is an all-weather instrument, which enables us to retrieve sea surface wind with high resolution (<1 km) and compensate the sparse resolution of the scatterometer. In this study, we investigated the Geophysical Model Functions (GMF), which are the algorithms for retrieval of sea surface wind speed from the SAR data depending on each band such as C-, L-, or X-band radar. We reviewed in the simulation of the backscattering coefficients for relative wind direction, incidence angle, and wind speed by applying LMOD, CMOD, and XMOD model functions, and analyzed the characteristics of each GMF. We investigated previous studies about the validation of wind speed from the SAR data using these GMFs. The accuracy of sea surface wind from SAR data changed with respect to observation mode, GMF type, reference data for validation, preprocessing method, and the method for calculation of relative wind direction. It is expected that this study contributes to the potential users of SAR images who retrieve wind speeds from SAR data at the coastal region around the Korean Peninsula.

If we use the microwave of SAR, we can observe on the ocean in spite of bad weather, day and night time. Sea surface images on the ocean of SAR have a lot of information on the atmospheric phenomena related to surface wind vector. Information of wind speed which is extracted from SAR images is used variously. Wind direction data and sigma nought value are put in the CMOD which can extract wind information in order to estimate sea surface wind from SAR images. Wind spectrum which is extracted from SAR always presents opposed two points of $180^{\circ}$ because of applying to 2D-FFT. These ambiguities should be decided by position of land, wind direction or numerical model. Previously, we converted into sigma nought after extracting Digital Number from RadarSat-1 SAR using ENVI4.0, thus, it took a long time because every process was manual. Therefore, we converted sigma nought by matlab code after making matlab code. After that, we are extracting wind direction from sigma nought. Now, to decide wind direction needs further study because wind direction has $180^{\circ}$ ambiguity.

SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) remote sensing data is a very useful tool for near-real-time identification of landslide affected areas that can occur over a large area due to heavy rains or typhoons. This study aims to develop an effective algorithm for automatically delineating landslide areas from the polarimetric SAR data acquired after the landslide event. To detect landslides from SAR observations, reduction of the speckle effects in the estimation of polarimetric SAR parameters and the orthorectification of geometric distortions on sloping terrain are essential processing steps. Based on the experimental analysis, it was found that the IDAN filter can provide a better estimation of the polarimetric parameters. In addition, it was appropriate to apply orthorectification process after estimating polarimetric parameters in the slant range domain. Furthermore, it was found that the polarimetric entropy is the most appropriate parameters among various polarimetric parameters. Based on those analyses, we proposed an automatic landslide detection algorithm using the histogram thresholding of the polarimetric parameters with the aid of terrain slope information. The landslide detection algorithm was applied to the ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 data which observed landslide areas in Japan triggered by Typhoon in September 2011. Experimental results showed that the landslide areas were successfully identified by using the proposed algorithm with a detection rate of about 82% and a false alarm rate of about 3%.
The sea surface wind field has long been obtained from satellite scatterometers or passive microwave radiometers. However, the importance of satellite altimeter-derived wind speed has seldom been addressed because of the outstanding capability of the scatterometers. Satellite altimeter requires the accurate wind speed data, measured simultaneously with sea surface height observations, to enhance the accuracy of sea surface height through the correction of sea state bias. This study validates the wind speeds from the satellite altimeters (GFO, Jason-1, Envisat, Jason-2, Cryosat-2, SARAL) and analyzes characteristics of errors. In total, 1504 matchup points were produced using the wind speed data of Ieodo Ocean Research Station (IORS) and of Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) buoys at Marado and Oeyeondo stations for 10 years from December 2007 to May 2016. The altimeter wind speed showed a root mean square error (RMSE) of about $1.59m\;s^{-1}$ and a negative bias of $-0.35m\;s^{-1}$ with respect to the in-situ wind speed. Altimeter wind speeds showed characteristic biases that they were higher (lower) than in-situ wind speeds at low (high) wind speed ranges. Some tendency was found that the difference between the maximum and minimum value gradually increased with distance from the buoy stations. For the improvement of the accuracy of altimeter wind speed, an equation for correction was derived based on the characteristics of errors. In addition, the significance of altimeter wind speed on the estimation of sea surface height was addressed by presenting the effect of the corrected wind speeds on the sea state bias values of Jason-1.
