아시아 지역의 닭마이코플라즈마병 상황

  • 마이코플라즈마 갈리셉티쿰(Mycoplasma gallisepticum, MG)및 마이코플라즈마 시노비에(M. synoviae,MS)에 의한 감염증은 아시아지역 뿐만 아니라 전세계적으로 닭에서 흔히 발생하는 질병이다. MG 감염은 흔히 닭에서 기낭염을 수반하는 만성호흡기병(chronic respiratory disease, CRD)과 칠면조의 전염성부비동염(infectious sinusitis)을 일으킨다. MS는 처음에 육계에서 전염성활막염(infectious synovitis)을 유발하는 병원체로만 알려졌으나, MG에 감염되지 않은 육계의 기낭염 병변부에서 빈번히 분리됨으로 인해 최근에는 원래의 전염성활막염보다 기낭염과 관련하여 많은 관심이 고조되고 있다. 아시아지역의 마이코플라즈마 감염상황을 대변하는 많은 문헌자료가 있으나, 대부분이 자국의 언어로 출판되어 있는 관계로 자료분석에 많은 애로가 있어 주로 해독이 가능한 영문자료를 근거로 하여 각국의 닭에서의 MG 및 MS 감염증의 발생상황과 방제현황에 대하여 언급하고자 한다. 비록 개략적이 나마 이를 토대로 국내 마이코플라즈마 방역상황을 되돌아볼 수 있는 계기가 되었으면 한다.

Henoch-Schönlein purpura associated with Mycoplasma infection (마이코플라스마 감염증과 관련된 Henoch-Schönlein 자반증)

  • Purpose : The cause and pathogenesis of Henoch-Sch$\ddot{o}$nlein purpura (HSP) are unknown, but recently the hypothesis that immunoglobulin A may have an important role in the pathogenesis of HSP is being published and HSP associated with mycoplasma infection has been also reported. The aim of this study is to discover relation between HSP and mycoplsma infection. Methods : From Jan. 2002 to Dec. 2005, we retrospectively evaluated 98 children who were diagnosed as HSP at Ilsan Paik Hospital. 84 patients were not associated with mycoplasma infection (group A) and 14 patients were associated with mycoplasma infection (group B). We compared both groups about clinical features. Results : The ratio of male to female patients in group A and B were 1.21:1 and 1.80:1. The number of patients in group A was most in November and December, and in group B was most in November. All patients had non-thrombocytopenic purpura concentrated on the buttocks and lower extremities and joint involvement was most common on the feet and ankle in both groups. 57 (67.9%) cases in group A and 9 (64.3%) cases in group B complained of abdominal pain. And 21 (25.0%) cases in group A and 5 (35.7%) cases in group B had nephritis. Elevated mycoplasma antibody titer (${\geq}1:320$) or 4 fold-rise were noted in 14 of 98 patients (14.3%). In this study, there was one child with HSP preceded by typical mycoplasma pneumonia (mycoplasma antibody titer 1:1280). Conclusion : In this study, elevated mycoplasma antibody titer (${\geq}1:320$) or 4 fold-rise were noted in 14 of 98 patients and the difference of clinical features between group A and B was not specific. The role of mycoplasma infection in the etiology of HSP may have been implicated, so the association with mycoplasma infection should have to be proved by further controlled studies.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia in Korean children, from 1979 to 2006-a meta-analysis (국내소아에서 발생한 마이코플라스마 폐렴 메타분석)

  • Purpose : This study aimed to perform a systematic review of the reports on Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia in the last 30 years (1980-2006) to investigate the intervals between outbreaks, change in the peak incidence age, and diagnostic methods. We also aimed to validate the proper diagnostic criteria for M. pneumoniae pneumonia. Methods : We reviewed 62 original articles on M. pneumoniae pneumonia in Korean children. We analyzed the annual or seasonal variation, study areas, patient age, journal names, and the date of each report. Further, we checked the methods and criteria used for the diagnosis of M. pneumoniae pneumonia. We also confirmed the proper mycoplasma antibody cutoff using the mycoplasma IgM titer as the gold standard. Results : In the last 30 years, epidemic outbreaks of M. pneumoniae pneumonia occurred every 3 years, except in 1993-1994 and 1996-1997. Seasonal variations were also present and were most prevalent in October and November. The number of preschool children, especially those aged 3 years or younger, with M. pneumoniae pneumonia has increased (P<0.05). The mycoplasma antibody titer of 1:640 or greater was appropriate for diagnosing M. pneumoniae pneumonia, with an acceptable sensitivity and specificity of detection. Conclusion : We analyzed the results of studies on M. pneumoniae pneumonia in Korean children during the last 30 years. Infection in younger children is increasing, and further research is required to reveal the major cause of the changing epidemics.

Mycorrhizal Colonization Effects on Some Physiological Parameters Related to Drought Stress in White Clover (화이트 클로버에서 마이코라이자 접종이 가뭄 스트레스와 관련된 생리학적 요인에 미치는 영향)

  • To investigate the physiological effects of mycorrhizal colonization on drought stress tolerance in white clover, the responses of leaf water potential (${\Psi}_{PL}$), relative water content (RWC), leaf dry mass, photosynthesis rate, transpiration, stomatal conductance, proline and ammonia were assessed periodically during 7 days in non-AM and AM plants under wellwatered or drought-stressed conditions. Under well-watered conditions, the examined parameters were not significantly changed or very little affected by AM symbiosis. Drought decreased water potential, relative water content, photosynthesis rate, transpiration and stomatal con ductance by 68.6%, 22.7%, 97.7%, 83.9% and 84.9%, respectively, in non-AM plants, meanwhile 46.8%, 13.4%, 50.3%, 44.8% and 54.7%, respectively, in AM plants. In addition, drought increased ammonia and proline by 31.8% and 162%, respectively, in non-AM plants, while 20.9% and 76.9%, respectively, in AM plants. These results clearly showed that mycorrhizal colonization significantly relieved the responses of physiological parameters to drought stress in white clover.

Distribution of Mycoplasma in Witches'-broom Infected Jujube Tissue (빗자루병(病)에 감염(感染)된 대추나무 조직내(組織內)의 마이코플라스마 분포(分布))

  • Distribution of mycoplasma-like organisms (MLO) in the phloem tissue of witches'-broom infected jujube trees was investigated by fluorescence microscopy applying new fluorochrome DAPI (4'-6-diamidino-2-phenylindole, 2HCl). MLO were detected from the phloem of leaf and stem sections of diseased branches exhibiting typical witches'-broom symptom but not detected from those of symptomless branches of an infected tree. MLO were also present in the healthy looking leaves frequently found in the diseased shoots. Fluorescence microscopy revealed the presence of MLO in the phloem of root sections of infected trees.

  • We analyzed RNA polymerase beta subunit gene (rpoB) mutation of rifampin-resistant Mycobacteria through analysis of nucleotide sequence of rpoB DNA (351 bp) containing rifampin resistant region, $rif^r$. For this study, we collected rifampin-resistant Mycobacteria that were identified by conventional culture methods from Masan National Hospital and The Korean Institute of Tuberculosis. We performed sequencing of DNA nucleotides and analyzed rpoB gene of those rifampin-resistant Mycobacteria. From this analysis, we invcestigated diverse mutations of rpoB gene included rifampin-resistant gene, which were not reported, from those rifampin-resistant Mycobacteria.

Production of Mycoplasma-Free Jujube Trees through In vitro Micrografting (기내미세접목(器內微細接木)에 의(依)한 대추나무의 마이코플라즈마 무병주(無病株) 생산(生産))

  • For the production of mycoplasma-free jujube trees from mycoplasma-infected trees in vitro micrografting visas carried out using apical meristems of in vitro grown plantlets as scions. The rootstocks were hypocotyl segments of in vitro germinated seedlings of Zizyphus jujuba Mill. which is widely used as rootstocks in the field grafting. Ten percent of scions showed normal growth and grew into plants. The presence of mycoplasma was tested using transmission electron microscopy and fluorescence microscopy. Mycoplasma was not found in the tissues of scion parts and seedlings, whereas it was found in in vitro grown plantlets. This suggests that the production of mycoplasmaa-free jujube trees is possible by the in vitro micrografting technique.

미국의 마이코 플라즈마 실태

  • 마이코플라즈마는 양계 산업에 경제적 손실을 임하는 질병중의 하나이다. 그 중에서도 마이코플라즈마 갈리셉티컴(MG, mycoplasma gallisepticum)은 호흡기 질병을 유발하고 산란율을 떨어뜨리며, 마이코플라즈마 시노바에(MS, mycoplasma synoviae)는 호흡기와 관절이상을 가져온다. MG는 MS보다 더 큰 경제적 손실을 입히고 있다. 본 고에서는 MG에 대한 일반 이해와 미국에서의 예방 실태를 알아 본다. MG는 축제를 떠나면 덥고 건조한 조건에서는 불과 몇 시간밖에 생존하지 못하는 유기체이다. MG는 감염 닭과의 직접접촉, 가까운 거리에서는 공기를 통해, 또는 오염된 기구나 작업자들을 통해 수평 감염되거나 종란을 통해 수직감염 된다. MG 감염은 만성호흡기(CRD, Chronic respriatory disease)의 원인이 되는데 특히 어린 병아리와 브로일러에서 그러하다. CRD 즉 만성 호흡기증의 정도는 MG병원성, 전염성 기관지염(IBV, intectious bronchitis virus), 그리고 대장균증과 같은 2차 감염에 의해 더욱 악화 되게 된다.

A Study on the Distribution of Mycoplasma pneumoniae Infectious Disease in Children from 2016 to 2018 According to Age (2016년에서 2018년의 소아 마이코플라즈마폐렴균 감염질환의 연령별 발생분포에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the recent age distribution of Mycoplasma pneumoniae in patients with respiratory infections and the differences in diagnostic usefulness according to the methods used in these patients. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients aged ≤18 years with respiratory infectious diseases who underwent polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or a specific immunoglobulin M (IgM) test between July 2016 and February 2019. The diagnosis of M. pneumoniae infection was confirmed by a positive result in the PCR or IgM test. Results: Of the 2,721 patients tested for M. pneumoniae, 2,197 underwent IgM, and 1,144 underwent PCR, with positivity rates of 17% and 20%, respectively. Among the 620 patients tested for both IgM and PCR tests simultaneously, 35% had M. pneumoniae infection, with 14% under 1 year old and 13% under 1-2 years old. The positive rate increased with age in both tests. Higher positive rates were observed in the IgM test before 3 years of age and in the PCR test after 3 years of age. The agreement rate between the two tests was 77.9% (Cohen's kappa 0.402). Conclusions: As age increased, the rates of M. pneumoniae infection also increased. In patients under 2 years of age, 4¬-14% of infections were confirmed depending on the method used. The moderate agreement between the PCR and IgM tests suggests that the simultaneous use of PCR and the IgM test for the early diagnosis should be approached with caution.
