  • In this paper, the encoder architecture of 3-D wavelet transform based on lifting scheme is designed. Architecture, here, 3 level wavelet transform for spatial decomposition and 2 level wavelet transform for temporal decomposition is adopted with efficient computation.

Performance analysis on modified integer transforms for lossless image compression (무손실 영상 압축을 위한 변형된 정수 변환들에 대한 성능 분석)

  • In this paper, we introduce modified integer transforms for lossless image compression and evaluate their performances for two-dimensional transforms. The two-dimensional extensions of the modified integer transforms show different performances in terms of coding efficiency and computational complexity. Thus, we measure performances for two-dimensional separable transforms and a two-dimensional non-separable transform. The separable modified integer transform used in H.264, the modified integer transform using the lifting scheme, and the non-separable transform in JPEG XR are evaluated in this paper. Also, experiments and their results are given. The experimental results indicate that the modified integer transform using the lifting scheme shows the best performance in terms of compression efficiency.

  • This papers describes modification of the integer transform used in H.264/AVC in order to efficiently apply to lossless compression. The previous reversible integer transform is not efficient for lossless compression due to large dynamic range of the transform coefficients. To reduce the problem, efficient and reversible integer transforms are proposed. The modified transforms are designed based on the lifting scheme for fast transforms. This paper introduces signal flow graphs for the proposed fast transforms and provides corresponding experimental results. The results indicate that the proposed modified reversible integer transform are superior to the previous transform in terms of lossless compression efficiency.

  • In this paper, we present a document image compression system based on segmentation, Quincunx downsampling, (5/3) wavelet lifting and subband-oriented SPIHT coding. We reduced the coding time by the adaptation of subband-oriented SPIHT coding and Quincunx downsampling. And to increase compression rate further, we applied arithmetic coding to the bitstream of SPIHT coding output. Finally, we present the reconstructed images for visual comparison and also present the compression rates and PSNR values under various scalar quantization methods.

  • This paper presents a fast hardware architecture to implement a 2-D DWT(Discrete Wavelet Transform) computed by lifting scheme framework. The conventional 2-D DWT hardware architecture has problem in internal memory, hardware resource, and latency. The proposed architecture was based on the 4-way partitioned data set. This architecture is configured with a pipelining parallel architecture for 4-way partitioning method. Due to the use of this architecture, total latency was improved by 50%, and memory size was reduced by using lifting scheme.

Lug Arrangement and Dynamic Analysis of Lifting Simulation for Underwater Installation of Structure in Asymmetric Position (비대칭 위치의 수중 구조물 설치를 위한 러그 위치 산정 및 리프팅 동역학 해석)

  • RGT(Riser Guide Tube) is a part of mooring on the bottom of a turret system to be connected with a production riser, and DBSC(Diverless Bend Stiffener Connector) is a latching component between them. In this paper, appropriate lug arrangement is decided mathematically for the case that a DBSC is lifted and installed on a RGT under the water while FPSO is under construction. Considering asymmetric arrangement & position of RGT and initial lug position, additional lug positions are determined by using an optimization method. The modified installation scheme with new lug points is investigated with a lifting simulation system, SIMSON. The simulation result shows that the installation of DBSC on RGT under the given conditions is quite feasible; therefore the mathematical method is proven to be appropriate.

  • The deck plates of ship block is made of thin plates in their construction. A main reason of using thin plates is that deck plates don't need to support large structural loads. Therefore, out-of-plane deformations between stiffeners are frequent in deck blocks. Because these are got right by correction heating, they continuously causes quality problems in the final dock-building process. According to preceding research, the lifting process by cranes would offset the effect of correction heating. This study finds out the remained efficiency of correction heating when tensional loads are added by a lifting to corrected parts. We used inherent strains in calculating the efficiency, and established the methodology where the positions for callings are. For getting more accurate positions, besides the structural lifting analysis, welding deformation analysis with upper block and measured data from a serial ship are also referenced.

  • In this paper, the dynamic response analysis of a floating crane with elastic booms and a cargo is performed. The objective is to consider the effects of the elastic boom in the lifting design stage. Governing equations of the motion for the system which consists of interconnected rigid and flexible bodies are derived based on the formulation of flexible multibody system dynamics. To model the boom as a flexible body, floating reference frame and nodal coordinates are used. Coupled surge, pitch, and heave motion of the floating crane with the cargo which has 3 degree of freedom is simulated by solving the equation numerically. Finally, the effects of the elastic boom for the lifting design that the floating crane is required to lift a heavy cargo are discussed by comparing the simulation result between with the elastic boom and with the rigid one.
