  • According to recent frequent local flash flood due to climate change, the very short-term rainfall forecast using remotely sensed rainfall like radar is necessary to establish. This research is to evaluate the feasibility of GIS-based distributed model coupled with radar rainfall, which can express temporal and spatial distribution, for multipurpose dam operation during flood season. $Vflo^{TM}$ model was used as physically based distributed hydrologic model. The study area was Yongdam dam basin ($930\;km^2$) and the 3 storm events of local convective rainfall in August 2005, and the typhoon.Ewiniar.and.Bilis.collected from Jindo radar was adopted for runoff simulation. Distributed rainfall consistent with hydrologic model grid resolution was generated by using K-RainVieux, pre-processor program for radar rainfall. The local bias correction for original radar rainfall shows reasonable results of which the percent error from the gauge observation is less than 2% and the bias value is $0.886{\sim}0.908$. The parameters for the $Vflo^{TM}$ were estimated from basic GIS data such as DEM, land cover and soil map. As a result of the 3 events of multiple peak hydrographs, the bias of total accumulated runoff and peak flow is less than 20%, which can provide a reasonable base for building operational real-time short-term rainfall-runoff forecast system.

  • This paper describes the localization development of an axial fan for KM-SAM multi-function radar. The multi-function radar, which is constantly affected by the external environment, is a key instrument for detecting and tracking low and medium altitude threat targets. Operating this equipment smoothly requires a fan for controlling the internal temperature and humidity. Presently, all such fans are imported. To solve these problems, localization development research was proposed. The development of localization includes analysis of requirements through review of related technical reports such as original equipment and system equipment specification, prototype design, and verification of design requirement through performance test and environmental test. The study results are described. The blower consisted of an axial fan with guide vanes and the motor was designed to generate a maximum airflow of 970 CFM and a wind pressure of 4.8 IWG. Six prototypes were manufactured for performance evaluation. In addition, for reliable data acquisition, AC power supply, fan performance tester and data acquisition equipment were designed and tested. All prototypes were verified as having design requirements equal to or better than those of imports.

  • As a radar based air surveillance hits the limit along with the growing air traffic needs, a new air surveillance technology called ADS-B has emerged. ADS-B provides more accurate position information with a shorter interval, and aircraft equipped with ADS-B transponders can check each other's location. However not all aircraft are equipped with ADS-B transponders, and aircraft with different ADS-B data links cannot check each other's location. To address these problems a TIS-B service, which broadcasts information that a radar is tracking, and an ADS-R service, which cross-broadcasts information of different ADS-B data links, have been emerged. In this paper, we design and implement a centralized TIS-B server for broadcasting air traffic situation which is capable of providing a TIS-B service and an ADS-R service at the same time. The implemented TIS-B server has been verified with a configured ADS-B ground system, by receiving ADS-B surveillance data and radar surveillance data followed by generating surveillance data for providing a TIS-B service and an ADS-R service and simulating broadcast of those generated surveillance data.

  • In this paper, a orbit determination process was carried out based on KARISMA(KARI Collision Risk Management System) developed by KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) to verify the orbit determination performance of this system, in which radar tracking data of a space debris was used. The real radar tracking data were obtained from TIRA(Tracking & Imaging Radar) system operated by GSOC(German Space Operation Center) for the KITSAT-3 finished satellite. And orbit determination error was approximately 60m compared to that of the GSOC's orbit determination result from the same radar tracking data. However, those results were influenced due to the insufficient information on the radar tracking data, such as error correction. To verify and confirm it, the error analysis was demonstrated and first observation data arc which has huge observation error was rejected. In this result, the orbit determination error was reduced such as approximately 25m. Therefore, if there are some observation data information such as error correction data, it is expected to improve the orbit determination accuracy.

  • Recently, the tracking radar continues research to develop a new operation algorithm that can acquire and track a target in various environments. In general, modeling similar to the real target and environment is used to develop a new operation algorithm, but there is a limit to modeling the real environment. In this paper, a RAW data storage device was developed to efficiently develop a new operation algorithm required for the tracking radar using millimeter wave to acquire and track the target. The RAW data storage equipment is designed so that the signal processing device of the tracking radar using millimeter wave can save the RAW data output from 8 channels to OOOMSPS. RAW data storage equipment consists of data acquisition equipment and data storage equipment. The data acquisition equipment was implemented using a commercial Xilinx KCU 105 Evaluation KIT capable of high-speed data communication interface, and the data storage equipment was implemented by applying a computer compatible with the commercial Xilinx KCU 105 Evaluation KIT. In this paper, the performance of the implemented RAW data storage equipment was verified through repeated interlocking tests with the signal processing device of the millimeter wave tracking radar.

  • The southern strait of Jeju is a divergence point of the Tsushima Warm Current (TWC), and it is the starting point of the thermohaline circulation in the waters of the Korean Peninsula, affecting the size and frequency of marine disasters such as typhoons and tsunamis, and has a very important oceanographic impact, such as becoming a source of harmful organisms and radioactively contaminated water. Therefore, for an immediate response to these maritime disasters, real-time ocean observation is required. However, compared to other straits, in the case of southern Jeju, such wide area marine observations are insufficient. Therefore, in this study, surface current field of the southern strait of Jeju was calculated using High-Frequency radar (HF radar). the large surface current field is calculated, and post-processing and data improvement are carried out through APM (Antenna Pattern Measurement) and FOL (First Order Line), and comparative analysis is conducted using actual data. As a result, the correlation shows improvement of 0.4~0.7 and RMSE of about 1~19 cm/s. These high-frequency radar observation results will help solve domestic issues such as response to typhoons, verification of numerical models, utilization of wide area wave data, and ocean search and rescue in the future through the establishment of an open data network.

  • Recently, the rapid development of GIS technology has made it possible to handle a various data associated with spatially hydrological parameters with their attribute information. Therefore, there has been a shift in focus from lumped runoff models to distributed runoff models, as the latter can consider temporal and spatial variations of discharge. This research is to evaluate the feasibility of GIS based distributed model using radar rainfall which can express temporal and spatial distribution in actual dam watershed during flood runoff period. K-DRUM (K-water hydrologic & hydaulic Distributed flood RUnoff Model) which was developed to calculate flood discharge connected to radar rainfall based on long-term runoff model developed by Kyoto- University DPRI (Disaster Prevention Research Institute), and Yondam-Dam watershed ($930km^2$) was applied as study site. Distributed rainfall according to grid resolution was generated by using preprocess program of radar rainfall, from JIN radar. Also, GIS hydrological parameters were extracted from basic GIS data such as DEM, land cover and soil map, and used as input data of distributed model (K-DRUM). Results of this research can provide a base for building of real-time short-term rainfall runoff forecast system according to flash flood in near future.

  • In this paper, we provide an embedded type non-contact bio-radar heart and respiration rate monitoring system. We implemented the rate finding algorithm into the embedded system. The high-speed and reliable real-time signal processor is then tested. To avoid null-point data loss problem, we applied quadrature demodulation. Among several other combining techniques, we suggest arctangent demodulation for quadrature channel combining and DSP is used for real-time signal processing. We also suggest DC-offset compensation technique to preserve the wanted DC components of the IQ signals for accurate demodulation while keeping the dynamic range of the ADC lower. Using Texas Instrument C6711 series DSP and external 12Bit ADC, we implemented proper elliptic digital filter and autocorrelation detection algorithm for robust commercial hand held device.

  • For an automotive surveillance radar system, fast-chirp train based FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar is a very effective method, because clutter and moving targets are easily separated in a 2D range-velocity map. However, pedestrians with low echo signals may be masked by strong clutter in actual field. To address this problem, we proposed in the previous work a clutter cancellation and moving target indication algorithm using the coherent phase method. In the present paper, we initially composed the test set-up using a 24 GHz FMCW transceiver and a real-time data logging board in order to verify this algorithm. Next, we created two indoor test environments consisting of moving human and stationary targets. It was found that pedestrians and strong clutter could be effectively separated when the proposed method is used. We also designed and implemented these algorithms in FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) in order to analyze the hardware and time complexities. The results demonstrated that the complexity overhead was nearly zero compared to when the typical method was used.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for preceding vehicle detection and tracking with motion estimation by radar-vision sensor fusion. The motion estimation proposed results in not only correction of inaccurate lateral position error observed on a radar target, but also adaptive detection and tracking of a preceding vehicle by compensating the changes in the geometric relation between the ego-vehicle and the ground due to the driving. Furthermore, the feature-based motion estimation employed to lessen computational burden reduces the number of deployment of the vehicle validation procedure. Experimental results prove that the correction by the proposed motion estimation improves the performance of the vehicle detection and makes the tracking accurate with high temporal consistency under various road conditions.
