  • In this paper, we propose a coding packet group-based ARQ scheme (rNC) for file delivery in wireless networks. rNC assumes multiple network coding points between the source and the destination. Each network coding point gathers and codes a group of packets according to the queue polling system. A queue polling system makes a few or several packets available for coding in a queue while polling the other queues in the system. Thus, we assuem a queue polling system at each network coding point. We call this group of packets as coded packet group. Each coding point acknowledges the reception of every code packet group to its previous coding point for reliable delivery. Thus, the intermediate coding points including the source can release its buffer before the packet is delivered to the destination. To guarantee the ultimate file delivery to the destination, the destination sends acknowledgement to the sender. We evaluate our proposed scheme using ns-2 and compare the performance with CodeCast. The results show that rNC works better than CodeCast in terms of packet delivery ratio and control overhead in unreliable wireless networks.

  • The requirement for QoS (Quality of Service) has become an important Issue as real-time or high bandwidth services are increasing, such as Internet Telephony, Internet broadcasting, and multimedia service etc. In order to guarantee the QoS of Internet application services, several approaches are being sought including IntServ (Integrated Service) DiffServ(Differentiated Srvices), and MPLS(Multi-Protocol Label Switching). In this paper, we describe the performance analysis of QoS guarantee mechanism using the DiffServ. To analyze how the DiffServ performance was affected by diverse input traffic models and the weight value in WFQ(Weighted Fair Queueing), we simulated and performed performance evaluation under a random, bursty, and self-similar input traffic models and for diverse input parameters. leased on the results of performance analysis, it was confirmed that significant difference exist in packet delay and loss depending on the input traffic models used. However, it was revealed that QoS guarantee is possible to the EF (expedited Forwarding) class and the service separation between RF and BE (Best Effort) classes may also be achieved. Next, we discussed the performance synthesis problem. (i. e. derived the conservation laws for a DiffServ networks, and analysed the performance variation and dynamic behavior based on the resource allocation (i.e., weight value) in WFQ.

  • The growing demand of virtual computing and storage resources in the cloud computing environment has led to deduplication of storage system for effective reduction and utilization of storage space. In particular, large reduction in the storage space is made possible by preventing data with identical content as the virtual desktop images from being stored on the virtual desktop infrastructure. However, in order to provide reliable support of virtual desktop services, the storage system must address a variety of workloads by virtual desktop, such as performance overhead due to deduplication, periodic data I/O storms and frequent random I/O operations. In this paper, we designed and implemented a clustered file system to support virtual desktop and storage services in cloud computing environment. The proposed clustered file system provides low storage consumption by means of inline deduplication on virtual desktop images. In addition, it reduces performance overhead by deduplication process in the data server and not the virtual host on which virtual desktops are running.

  • In an Ad-hoc network, a method of time synchronizing all the nodes in a network centering on one reference node can be used. A representative algorithm based on a reference node is Flooding Time Synchronization Protocol (FTSP). In the process of sending and receiving messages, predictable and unpredictable delays occur, which should be removed because it hinders accurate time synchronization. In multi-hop communications, hop delays occur when a packet traverses a number of hops. These hop delays significantly degrade the synchronization performance among nodes. Therefore, we need to find a method to reduce these hop delays and increase synchronization performance. In the FTSP scheme, hop delays can be greatly increased depending on the position of a reference node. In addition, in FTSP, a node with the smallest node ID is elected as a reference node, hence, the position of a reference node is actually arbitrarily determined. In this paper, we propose an optimal reference node election algorithm to reduce hop delays, and compare the performance of the proposed scheme with FTSP using the network simulator OPNET. In addition, we verify that the proposed scheme has an improved synchronization performance, which is robust to topology changes.

  • The safe driving reward system aims to reduce the loss of life and property by reducing the occurrence of accidents by motivating safe driving and encouraging active participation by providing direct reward to vehicle drivers who have performed safe driving. In the case of the existing digital tachograph, the goal is to limit dangerous driving by recording the driving status of the vehicle whereas the safe driving reward system is a support measure to increase the effect of accident prevention and induces safe driving with financial reward when safe driving is performed. In other words, in an area where accidents due to speeding are high, direct reward is provided to motivate safe driving to prevent traffic accidents when safe driving instructions such as speed compliance, maintaining distance between vehicles, and driving in designated lanes are performed. Since these safe operation data and reward histories must be managed transparently and safely, the reward evidences and histories were constructed using the closed blockchain Hyperledger Fabric. However, while transparency and safety are guaranteed in the blockchain system, low data processing speed is a problem. In this study, the sequential block generation speed was as low as 10 TPS(transaction per second), and as a result of applying the acceleration function a high-performance network of 1,000 TPS or more was implemented.

  • Recently, with the advancement of technology, the automotive industry has seen an increase in network connectivity. CAN (Controller Area Network) bus technology enables fast and efficient data communication between various electronic devices and systems within a vehicle, providing a platform that integrates and manages a wide range of functions, from core systems to auxiliary features. However, this increased connectivity raises concerns about network security, as external attackers could potentially gain access to the automotive network, taking control of the vehicle or stealing personal information. This paper analyzed abnormal messages occurring in CAN and confirmed that message occurrence periodicity, frequency, and data changes are important factors in the detection of abnormal messages. Through DBC decoding, the specific meanings of CAN messages were interpreted. Based on this, a model for classifying abnormalities was proposed using the GRU model to analyze the periodicity and trend of message occurrences by measuring the difference (residual) between the predicted and actual messages occurring within a certain period as an abnormality metric. Additionally, for multi-class classification of attack techniques on abnormal messages, a Random Forest model was introduced as a multi-classifier using message occurrence frequency, periodicity, and residuals, achieving improved performance. This model achieved a high accuracy of over 99% in detecting abnormal messages and demonstrated superior performance compared to other existing models.

  • Information and communication and home appliance industries, which were one of South Korea's main industries, are gradually losing their export share as their export competitiveness is weakening. This study objectively analyzed export competitiveness and suggested export-promising countries in order to help South Korea's information communication and home appliance industries improve exports. In this study, network properties, centrality, and structural hole analysis were performed during network analysis to evaluate export competitiveness. In order to select promising export countries, we proposed a new variable that can take into account the characteristics of an already established International Trade Network (ITN), that is, the Global Value Chain (GVC), in addition to the existing economic factors. The conditional log-odds for individual links derived from the Exponential Random Graph Model (ERGM) in the analysis of the cross-border trade network were assumed as a proxy variable that can indicate the export potential. In consideration of the possibility of ERGM linkage, a parametric approach and a non-parametric approach were used to recommend export-promising countries, respectively. In the parametric method, a regression analysis model was developed to predict the export value of the information and communication and home appliance industries in South Korea by additionally considering the link-specific characteristics of the network derived from the ERGM to the existing economic factors. Also, in the non-parametric approach, an abnormality detection algorithm based on the clustering method was used, and a promising export country was proposed as a method of finding outliers that deviate from two peers. According to the research results, the structural characteristic of the export network of the industry was a network with high transferability. Also, according to the centrality analysis result, South Korea's influence on exports was weak compared to its size, and the structural hole analysis result showed that export efficiency was weak. According to the model for recommending promising exporting countries proposed by this study, in parametric analysis, Iran, Ireland, North Macedonia, Angola, and Pakistan were promising exporting countries, and in nonparametric analysis, Qatar, Luxembourg, Ireland, North Macedonia and Pakistan were analyzed as promising exporting countries. There were differences in some countries in the two models. The results of this study revealed that the export competitiveness of South Korea's information and communication and home appliance industries in GVC was not high compared to the size of exports, and thus showed that exports could be further reduced. In addition, this study is meaningful in that it proposed a method to find promising export countries by considering GVC networks with other countries as a way to increase export competitiveness. This study showed that, from a policy point of view, the international trade network of the information communication and home appliance industries has an important mutual relationship, and although transferability is high, it may not be easily expanded to a three-party relationship. In addition, it was confirmed that South Korea's export competitiveness or status was lower than the export size ranking. This paper suggested that in order to improve the low out-degree centrality, it is necessary to increase exports to Italy or Poland, which had significantly higher in-degrees. In addition, we argued that in order to improve the centrality of out-closeness, it is necessary to increase exports to countries with particularly high in-closeness. In particular, it was analyzed that Morocco, UAE, Argentina, Russia, and Canada should pay attention as export countries. This study also provided practical implications for companies expecting to expand exports. The results of this study argue that companies expecting export expansion need to pay attention to countries with a relatively high potential for export expansion compared to the existing export volume by country. In particular, for companies that export daily necessities, countries that should pay attention to the population are presented, and for companies that export high-end or durable products, countries with high GDP, or purchasing power, relatively low exports are presented. Since the process and results of this study can be easily extended and applied to other industries, it is also expected to develop services that utilize the results of this study in the public sector.

  • In this paper, we propose a hybrid genetic algorithm (HGA) approach to effectively solve the reverse logistics network with centralized centers (RLNCC). For the proposed HGA approach, genetic algorithm (GA) is used as a main algorithm. For implementing GA, a new bit-string representation scheme using 0 and 1 values is suggested, which can easily make initial population of GA. As genetic operators, the elitist strategy in enlarged sampling space developed by Gen and Chang (1997), a new two-point crossover operator, and a new random mutation operator are used for selection, crossover and mutation, respectively. For hybrid concept of GA, an iterative hill climbing method (IHCM) developed by Michalewicz (1994) is inserted into HGA search loop. The IHCM is one of local search techniques and precisely explores the space converged by GA search. The RLNCC is composed of collection centers, remanufacturing centers, redistribution centers, and secondary markets in reverse logistics networks. Of the centers and secondary markets, only one collection center, remanufacturing center, redistribution center, and secondary market should be opened in reverse logistics networks. Some assumptions are considered for effectively implementing the RLNCC The RLNCC is represented by a mixed integer programming (MIP) model using indexes, parameters and decision variables. The objective function of the MIP model is to minimize the total cost which is consisted of transportation cost, fixed cost, and handling cost. The transportation cost is obtained by transporting the returned products between each centers and secondary markets. The fixed cost is calculated by opening or closing decision at each center and secondary markets. That is, if there are three collection centers (the opening costs of collection center 1 2, and 3 are 10.5, 12.1, 8.9, respectively), and the collection center 1 is opened and the remainders are all closed, then the fixed cost is 10.5. The handling cost means the cost of treating the products returned from customers at each center and secondary markets which are opened at each RLNCC stage. The RLNCC is solved by the proposed HGA approach. In numerical experiment, the proposed HGA and a conventional competing approach is compared with each other using various measures of performance. For the conventional competing approach, the GA approach by Yun (2013) is used. The GA approach has not any local search technique such as the IHCM proposed the HGA approach. As measures of performance, CPU time, optimal solution, and optimal setting are used. Two types of the RLNCC with different numbers of customers, collection centers, remanufacturing centers, redistribution centers and secondary markets are presented for comparing the performances of the HGA and GA approaches. The MIP models using the two types of the RLNCC are programmed by Visual Basic Version 6.0, and the computer implementing environment is the IBM compatible PC with 3.06Ghz CPU speed and 1GB RAM on Windows XP. The parameters used in the HGA and GA approaches are that the total number of generations is 10,000, population size 20, crossover rate 0.5, mutation rate 0.1, and the search range for the IHCM is 2.0. Total 20 iterations are made for eliminating the randomness of the searches of the HGA and GA approaches. With performance comparisons, network representations by opening/closing decision, and convergence processes using two types of the RLNCCs, the experimental result shows that the HGA has significantly better performance in terms of the optimal solution than the GA, though the GA is slightly quicker than the HGA in terms of the CPU time. Finally, it has been proved that the proposed HGA approach is more efficient than conventional GA approach in two types of the RLNCC since the former has a GA search process as well as a local search process for additional search scheme, while the latter has a GA search process alone. For a future study, much more large-sized RLNCCs will be tested for robustness of our approach.
