A study on the adhesion of HTPB liner and PCP propellant (HTPB 라이너와 PCP 추진제와의 접착에 관한 연구)

  • The study of compatible liner with ADP-505 propellant based PCP was performed. HTPB/DDl was chosen as a binder of liner in order to prohibit migration of nitroester plasticizer from propellant. The possible formulations for liner were screened by peel test of EPDM insulation/liner, propellant/liner and insulation/liner/propellant. Also, the adhesion tests including tension and shear were conducted. The adhesion of liner and propellant fumed out to be very good. The peel value was shown 1.5∼1.8 daN/cm, tensile force was 5.5∼6.0bar and shear force was 4.2∼5.0bar. In the samples of insulation/liner/propellant, they also have shown good adhesion properties. The peel, tensile and shear strength were 1.8 daN/cm, 5.0∼6.0bar and 4.5∼5.0bar, respectively.

  • This paper described the structural design and the fabrication procedure of KSR-III composite pressure tank. The type of the composite pressure tank was COPV(Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessel). A non-load sharing liner was made of aluminum 6061-0 and the liner provided a helium gas seal. The composite pressure tank was winded using T700 carbon/epoxy on the liner. Because the aluminum liner was thin, multiple cure cycles were applied to the filament winding technique. The multiple cure cycles prevented the liner-cylinder from losing a circular shape. A fitting force at the metallic boss was spread to the carbon fiber by a boss ring. The boss ring also prevented a local deformation at the boss part.

  • Cooling characteristics of a liner were investigated by a film cooling method using a gas nitrogen in a rocket engine. High temperature gas of this test was made by mixing liquid nitrogen with combustion gas of a liquid rocket. A supply system of gas nitrogen was additionally constructed to the existing test facility of liquid rocket engine, and a new test section consisted of a liner and a gas injection ring was manufactured. A 10 second firing test for finding cooling characteristics of the liner was successfully conducted and liner surface temperatures and hot gas temperature was obtained.

Effect of Liner Component Coatings by Oxidized Starch on Properties of Corrugated Board (라이너지의 산화전분 코팅이 골판지의 물성에 미치는 영향)

  • Coating was carried out on liner components of B flute, single-wall corrugated board(SK180/S120/K200) to examine the effect of liner component coatings by oxidized starch on the properties of corrugated board. Both bursting strength and edgewise compression strength(ECS) of corrugated board were improved by coating of its liner components with oxidized starch. Bursting strength of corrugated board rapidly increased with an initial increase of coating weight, but as the coating weight further increased, there was no increase in bursting strength. The results showed 30.3% improvement for $2.32g/m^2$ coating on outside liner component, 36.8% improvement for $4.84g/m^2$ coating on inside liner component and 39.9% improvement for $7.16g/m^2$ coating on both liner components in bursting strength of corrugated board. Regardless of treated liner components, ECS of corrugated board was improved by coating of oxidized starch, and especially greater improvement was accomplished when corrugated board was coated on inside liner component or both liner components at low level of coating weight - 11.3% improvement for $1.58g/m^2$ coating on Inside liner component and 11.9% improvement for $2.99g/m^2$ coating on both liner components.

  • This study aims to analyze the effects of design parameters of the slotted cooling liner for air-breathing propulsion system. The three kinds of design parameters of the slotted cooling liner were selected and were investigated effect on the cooling performance of the slotted cooling liner. In this paper calculation results for inner wall temperature of cooling liner from heat transfer calculations were presented.

  • In manufacturing process of composite cylinders with metal liner, the autofrettage process which induces compressive residual stress on the liner to improve cycling life can be applied. In this study, a finite element analysis technique is presented, which can predict accurately the compressive residual stress on the liner induced by autofrettage and stress behavior after. Material and geometrical non-linearity is considered in the finite element analysis, and the Von-Mises stress of a liner is introduced as a key parameter that determines pressure cycling life of composite cylinders. Presented methodology is verified through fatigue test of liner material and pressure cycling test of composite cylinders.

  • The smokeless liner, was required to propulsion system of gas generator, was developed by appling oxamide as a filler and HTPB system as a binder. Relative quantities of smoke produced during burning of liner by propellant combustion was measured by using smoke chamber. The smoke of the smokeless liner containing 50% of oxamide as filler was reduced to 1/10 as compared with conventional liner containing silica as filler. This result was showed by ground test of gas generator.

  • A study was conducted to improve the adhesion of propellant, liner,and insulation. Insulation was shown to be more advantageous in improving the adhesion when a barrier coat was applied compared to a bare insulation layer. It was confirmed that the adhesion strength between the insulation and the propellant improves as the thickness of the liner coating increases. The liner was cured for 24 h. If the liner is cured for a long time, it will adversely affect adhesion. Adhesion is also improved when a bonding agent is applied. As the bonding agent content increases, the adhesion improves. There is a change in the adhesive strength depending on the type of bonding agent used. HX-868 shows slightly more improved adhesion than HX-752.

  • Drainage pipeline system repaired by trenchless technology using liners can be defined between partial and entire collapse. The liners in the partial collapse pipeline are subjected to only uniform groundwater pressure on the surface. This research evaluates practical and useful cured-in-placed pipe (CIPP) design equations based on experimental results and finite element analysis results. Also, stability evaluation of pipe liner system with edge treatment is performed using finite element analysis. The CIPP equation should be used to design liner pipe system.

Evaluation of Fracture Toughness Using Small Punch Test for Aluminum 6061-T6 Type-3 Cylinder Liner (소형펀치시험법을 이용한 알루미늄 6061-T6 Type-3 용기 라이너의 파괴인성 평가)

  • Type-3 cylinder liner has a limitation of machining the standard specimen for fracture toughness test because it has approximately 5 mm in thickness as well as a curvature. Hence, it needs to be employed a miniature specimen test technique to evaluate fracture toughness of the cylinder liner. In this study, small punch (SP) test method was employed to evaluate fracture toughness of the cylinder liner. Load-displacement curve result measured from the SP test showed that the liner material was failed during membrane stretching in the general SP load-displacement curve. Additionally, it was shown that liner material was isotropic although the amount of plastic deformation was different depending on the direction due to manufacturing process characteristics. Fracture toughness, $J_{Ic}$, was evaluated using the SP test data. The value of fracture toughness obtained was $13.0kJ/m^2$. This value was similar to that of the same kind of materials. Therefore, the fracture toughness evaluated using the SP test data was reasonable.
