Implementation and Evaluation of the 100 Watt High Power Amplifier for Broadband Digital TV Repeater (광대역 디지털TV 중계기용 100 Watt 고출력증폭기의 구현 및 특성 측정에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a 100 Watt high power amplifier has been implemented and performed evaluation, which is operating at UHF band ($470\;{\sim}\;806\;MHz$) for Digital TV repeater. To achieve increase of bandwidth and high power capability, 3-way power combiner and divider of Wilkinson type was adopted. In order to measure the fabricated 100 Watt power amplifier, the estimation technique function which makes equivalent mask was used. As a result of the measurement, the existence of pilot signal is confirmed and the signal transmitted at the rated output power 100 Watt is brought out the flat feature through 6 MHz bandwidth. and it resulted that its value was less than -47 dB at the edge of radiation channel and less than -110 dB at more than 6 MHz position from channel edge.

  • 디지털 콘텐츠의 급속한 보급과 더불어 휴대용 단말기를 이용한 eBook 관련 콘텐츠의 개발이 점증하고 있는 추세에 유통 다변화를 통한 보급 확대를 위해 스마트 TV를 통한 VOD 방송콘텐츠와 연동하여 전자책을 사용자에게 즉시로 제공할 수 있는 시스템이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 스마트 TV 방송콘텐츠를 기반으로 한 eBook 콘텐츠의 VOD 서비스를 하이브리드형으로 휴대 스마트 기기에 제공하기 위한 효과적인 시스템의 구성과 DRM 전략을 위한 프레임워크를 제시하고 프로토타입 시스템을 제안한다.

Effect of infographic of TV news on audience's memory and comprehension (TV뉴스의 인포그래픽이 수용자의 기억과 이해에 미치는 영향)

  • This experimental research explores the effect of infographic, visual element of TV news, on audience's memory and comprehension. For this experimental research, 2 groups of subjects composed of 87 university students were exposed to two different types of TV news, one group was exposed to news with infographic, the other group was exposed to news without infographic. and questions which were designed to measure recognition memory, recall memory, and comprehension, were asked and analysed. This research found that subjects who watched news with infographic showed higher degree of recall memory and comprehension than those who watched news without infographic. however effect of infographic on audience's recognition memory could not be found.

An objective study on the impact of emotional elements of motion graphics on the brand preference in websites of TV products (TV 제품의 웹사이트에서 동영상의 감성요소가 브랜드 선호도에 미치는 영향력에 관한 실증적 연구)

  • The goal of this study was to contemplate the impact of emotional elements of motion graphics on the brand preference in websites of TV products. To attain the goal, the emotional elements of motion graphics in websites of TV products, i.e., color, graphic image, typography, and layout, were set as independent variables and the brand preference as a dependent variable. The variables were analyzed objectively. Samples were collected from selected design students attending technical colleges. Among 282 samples collected, 15 were discarded as unfeasible and the remaining 267 were used in the analysis. Statistical analysis techniques used in the study included factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis; and 'SPSS Win. 11.5' was used to perform the statistical analysis. From the analysis, the following two results were obtained. First, it appeared that emotional elements of motion graphics appeared in websites of TV products exerted statistically significant impacts on the brand preference. Second, the element exerting the most significant impact on the brand preference among the emotional elements were appeared as 'graphic image' and 'color'. Thus, it was concluded that it is necessary to give priority in 'graphic image' and 'color' to enhance the brand preference.

  • The potential competency from the animation industry, as known as a foundation which spawned a variety contents from the piece of work, has a high importance in the content development field. The pivotal role of the domestic animation industry has produced the term of convergence content which composed by both educational elements and entertainment features especially from the domestic kids TV animation industry. This study analysis the ideal indicator of the preferred characteristic design being broadcasted on EBS, not only presenting the status of the character proportion rates but also proposing the creative aesthetic indication where the substantial leverage would be available as the purpose of this research.

Compact Broadband Monopole Antenna for Digital TV Reception (디지털 TV 수신용 소형 광대역 모노폴 안테나)

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact broadband planar monopole antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) is studied. The proposed broadband monopole is optimized for terrestrial digital television (DTV) reception. In order to achieve broadband characteristics, the monopole and ground conductor are gradually tapered. By loading slit pairs on both monopole and ground plane, the proposed antenna is miniaturized. The monopole is fed by a CPW with 75-ohm characteristic impedance on an FR4 substrate and its size is $100mm{\times}200mm$. The optimized monopole antenna for DTV band (470-806 MHz) is fabricated on an FR4 substrate and tested experimentally to verify the results of this study.

Design of a Channel Combiner for Digital Terrestrial Television Transmission (디지털 TV 방송 송신용 채널 컴바이너 설계)

  • In this paper, a channel combiner is designed to combine two adjacent digital TV channels without interference to transmit these channels with one broadband antenna. A constant impedance type combiner, consisting of two identical bandpass filters and two identical 3 dB power combiners, is chosen as a channel combiner. The bandpass filter used in the channel combiner also suppresses out-of-band signal caused by digital transmitter's non-linearity. H-plane type bandpass filters and branch-line fewer combiners are adopted in the design. The simulated results of the designed bandpass filter and power combiner show excellent agreement with the theoretical results. Finally, a channel combiner is designed by combining filters with rover combiners and the characteristics are simulated. It is shown that the designed channel combiner shows excellent performance.

  • This paper analyzed the transmission performance when we transmited digital TV signal through analog CATV network. We considered random noise, microreflection, and composite tripple beats as channel impairment factors, and random noise and CTB( Composite Tripple Beat) are modelled as Gaussian distribution and Weibull distribution respectively. Channel modellings for microreflections are classified as three cases, and we exploited carrier recovery and blind equalizer to minimize their effects. We developed a computer simulator for the digital transmission system using DVB-C specification to analyze digital transmission performance, and found BER values according to $E_{b}$/$N_{o}$ for each configuration.

  • According to the recent developments of computer, terrestrial broadcasting, satellite broadcasting and CATV technologies, Multimedia TV application combined with such technologies will emerge. Therefore, it is demanded that high-power, wide-band, and high-frequency performance. In this paper, HPA(high power amplifier) for digital TV transmission system is proposed. The analysis and evaluation on the proposed amplifier have been performed by 2-tone signal for general performance evaluation and by 8-VSB signal for comparison with real system. In result, proposed HPA satisfies requirements of high-power, wide-band, and high-frequency performance.

  • In this paper, measurement methods for the characteristics of antennas for indoor digital TV (DTV), having 75-ohm port impedance, are introduced. Reference impedance of typical radio frequency (or microwave) systems and measurement equipments is 50 ohm. However, the reference impedance of antennas for indoor DTV is 75 ohm, and the characteristics of the antennas cannot be measured directly using the measurement equipments. Measurement methods, using test equipments with reference impedance of 50 ohm, for the characteristics(impedance, radiation patterns, and gains) of antennas designed to fit for 75 ohm port are introduced.
