The research contents to achieve the research purpose are, first, to examine the current status of elderly education, and second, to suggest the direction of elderly education in the age of science and technology. Due to the current status of education for the elderly, education for the elderly continues to change and develop, and various programs and activities are provided to help the elderly enjoy a richer retirement life. According to the survey report on the elderly, 11.9% of all elderly people participate in learning activities. Senior welfare centers accounted for the largest number of institutions conducting learning activities for elderly education learning activities participants at 35.5%. First, in the direction of elderly education in the age of science and technology, education on the use of digital technology and information is necessary in the composition of elderly education contents. Second, in the case of elderly education methods, customized elderly education methods are needed. Third, in the case of operating elderly education institutions, specialized education centers for elderly education must be further strengthened and supported. The international community is already forming a consensus that the establishment of new social systems and financial investment due to the increase in the elderly population should be considered a new growth engine rather than a social crisis. Although there is a burden on the social security sector due to the increase in the elderly population, there is a shift in the direction of recognizing the potential capabilities and experiences of the elderly and returning them to social resources. Elderly education in the age of science and technology needs to change to a direction that can build a healthy and progressive society in the future.

  • Restoring lost teeth is very important in terms of both function and aesthetics. If tooth loss occurs in the posterior region and the loss of support is persistent, it may cause a gradual shift in the position of the mandible and a change in occlusion. This clinical case attempted to restore support for the posterior teeth with a fixed prosthesis using implants in a patient whose opposing teeth were erupted and the occlusal plane collapsed due to long-term loss of the maxillary left posterior teeth and mandibular right first molars. To correct the occlusal plane of remaining dentition, wax-up of maxillary left posterior teeth was duplicated with acrylic resin and placed on maxilla. Surgical template for implant placement were fabricated using digital technology. After the support of the posterior teeth was restored with the placement of the implant, stable occlusion with temporary restorations was observed for a sufficient time. Afterwards, monolithic zirconia prosthesis was placed on the patient to ensure functional and aesthetic improvement.

  • The eyeball input system is a text input system designed based on 'eye tracking technology' and 'virtual keyboard character-input technology'. The current virtual keyboard structure used is a rectangular QWERTY array optimized for a multi-input method that simultaneously utilizes all 10 fingers on both hands. However, since 'eye-tracking technology' is a single-input method that relies solely on eye movement, requiring only one focal point for input, problems arise when used in conjunction with a rectangular virtual keyboard structure designed for multi-input method. To solve this problem, first of all, previous studies on the shape, type, and movement of muscles connected to the eyeball were investigated. Through the investigation, it was identified that the principle of eye movement occurs in a circle rather than in a straight line. This study, therefore, proposes a new key arrangement wherein the keys are arranged in a circular structure suitable for rotational motion rather than the key arrangement of the current virtual keyboard which is arranged in a rectangular structure and optimized for both-hand input. In addition, compared to the existing rectangular key arrangement, a performance verification experiment was conducted on the circular key arrangement, and through the experiment, it was confirmed that the circular arrangement would be a good replacement for the rectangular arrangement for the virtual keyboard.

  • Objective : This study aimed to identify common activities with similar participation levels between community-dwelling individuals in the United States (US) and South Korea (Study 1), and analyze the changes in activity participation patterns across the adult lifespan in South Korea (Study 2). Methods : We administered the online survey-based Activity Card Sort version 3 (ACS-3) to adults living in the US and South Korea. In Study 1, we computed the average participation level and visualized 100 activities of the ACS-3 from both the US and Korean samples. The average participation level across the four age groups in Study 2 was calculated and visualized to understand the changes in patterns of involvement across the four ACS-3 domains in a Korean sample. Results : In Study 1, data from 161 Americans and 163 Koreans were analyzed. Of the 100 activities, 48 (instrumental: 20; leisure: 13; fitness/health: 6; social: 9) demonstrated similar levels of participation between the two samples. In Study 2, data from 420 Koreans were analyzed and a tendency for decreased participation with age was found in all domains, except for the instrumental domain. Conclusion : Common daily activities may be used as a means of intervention across cultures in occupational therapy. Protective approaches and support are recommended to optimize older adults' participation in daily life.

  • The rapid advancement of digital technology and the COVID-19 pandemic have significantly accelerated the growth of online commerce, highlighting the need for support mechanisms that enable small business owners to effectively respond to these market changes. In response, this paper presents a foundational technology leveraging the Online to Offline (O2O) strategy to automatically capture products displayed on retail shelves and utilize these images to create virtual stores. The essence of this research lies in precisely identifying and recognizing the location and names of displayed products, for which a single-class-targeted, lightweight model based on YOLOv8, named ESD-YOLOv8, is proposed. The detected products are identified by their names through feature-point-based technology, equipped with the capability to swiftly update the system by simply adding photos of new products. Through experiments, product name recognition demonstrated an accuracy of 74.0%, and position detection achieved a performance with an F2-Score of 92.8% using only 0.3M parameters. These results confirm that the proposed method possesses high performance and optimized efficiency.
