Nowadays the information environment enables users to access the traditional library collection as well as various digital information resources. In this rapidly changing environment, the use of digital information resources such as web sites, data, and homepages has increased. In this research, highly-cited authors' research outcomes as well as the research outcomes of the people, who cited the highly-cited authors' works, were extracted then compared with information stored in the medical colleges' digital libraries and the academic information portals in the clinical medicine area by using the citation information provided by Essential Science Indicators from ISI Web of knowledge. Out of 10,000 authors,146 people's homepages, which present research outcomes, were analyzed. The research outcomes listed in the homepages included journal papers, monographs, conference proceedings, and lecture notes. About 15% of the journal papers, 32% of the monographs, 48% of the conference proceedings, and 100% of lecture notes were accessible only through the homepages. The research outcomes accessible from the homepages were almost analogous to the ones available through the medical college's digital libraries and the academic information portals. Therefore, the digital library collection will be improved and expanded quantitatively and qualitatively by collecting and using the information in the homepages of the prestigious researchers.

This study seeks to propose and develop library science courses required in the digital age by investigating overseas LIS courses and surveying field librarians. Such courses must help the future librarian develop familiarity and skill with emerging technologies. As a result, required courses in the digital era were found to be: 'Design and Management of Databases', 'Library Planning, Marketing, and Assessment', 'Understanding Information Technology for Managing Digital Collections', and 'Information and Communication in a Digital Age' in that order, and should therefore be offered as core courses. In addition, 'Service for Information Disadvantaged Users' and 'Organization and Utilization of Web resources' were derived. The study also recommends different required courses based on different librarian types and duties.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the political and functional requirements of the regional library portal and to evaluate such requirements. A literature review was carried out to discuss library portal, and introduce the best practices of the regional library portal. After analyzing the political and functional requirements of the regional library portal, AHP was applied to evaluate requirements. In the political requirements, standards, digital collection development, operation and evaluation were ranked according to importance, and copyright & licence management which belongs to digital collection development was underrated. There were differences in the importance among the functional requirements of the regional library portal, integrated search, integrated interface, information service, separated digital collection management and access management were ranked according to importance.

전자저널의 컨텐츠는 출판사의 서버에 디지털파일로 축적되어있으므로 출판사의 사정에 따라 또는 자관의 구독취소 결정에 따라 접속이 중단되는 사태가 발생할 경우 종전의 전자저널 구독분까지 이용할 수 없어 결과적으로 장서가 소실되는 결과를 가져오게 된다. 일부 출판사에서는 과월호 컨텐츠를 수록한 CD를 제공하여 이를 보완하고는 있으나 소장매체의 수명이 한시적일 뿐더러 출판사에서 계속해서 상당한 비용이 소요되는 과월호 컨텐츠 보존을 수행할 지 또한 의문이다. 이 연구는 선진 외국의 사례를 바탕으로 전자저널 컨텐츠의 영구보존에 관한 국내 도서관의 적절한 대처방안을 모색하고자 하였다.

This paper shows that digital libraries can be understood through STIN models which emphasize interactions among components in networks. The enrollment strategies in the American Memory make human and non-human factors interact. Specifically, this paper articulates that the relationships between users and collections, between users and staff, and between users and users are closely linked through the strategies . Observing the linkages among these components ,this paper found that the enrollment processes not only draw users to the American Memory, but also alter roles of components and creates new roles and players for them. The alterations of roles and the resulting changes of relationships among components mean that digital libraries lead to transform the grounding of knowledge works in a society.

This article is an overview of the digital library project, indicating what roles Koreas diverse digital collections may play. Our digital library prototype has simple architecture, consisting of digital repositories, filters, indexing and searching, and clients. Digital repositories include various types of materials and databases. The role of filters is to recognize a format of a document collection and mark the structural components of each of its documents. We are using a database management system (ORACLE and ConText) supporting user-defined functions and access methods that allows us to easily incorporate new object analysis, structuring, and indexing technology into a repository. Clients can be considered browsers or viewers designed for different document data types, such as image, audio, video, SGML, PDF, and KORMARC. The combination of navigational tools supports a variety of approaches to identifying collections and browsing or searching for individual items. The search interface was implemented using HTML forms and the World Wide Web's CGI mechanism.

Librarians regularly deal with license agreements when acquiring digital resources. This paper describes the characteristics and contents of a license agreement for purchase of digital resources in libraries. Then, after analysis of the license agreement in domestic libraries and studying problems of the agreement, there are suggestions of what should be done for an appropriate license agreement in the future.
