A Study on the Photorealism of Digital Architectural Rendering Images (디지털 건축 렌더링 이미지의 포토리얼리즘에 대한 고찰)

  • The production of hyper-realistic digital rendering images has been available due to radical improvements of recent digital rendering and CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) software technologies. The photorealism of digital architectural rendering images requires further studies and discussions in that architectural visualization becomes a foundation of other fields using digital rendering technology, such as movies, games, and VR industry. The principles for achieving photorealism on digital architectural rendering images were re-defined and detailed elements were analyzed through theoretical analysis of the former studies. Four principles were drawn from the architectural rendering images produced by newly-developed technologies: physically-accurate lighting calculations, accurate object geometry representation, realistic material and texture, and characteristics of photography. The sub-elements of those four principles are categorized into either essential or selective for photorealistic imagery and the randomness of the selective elements could explain the variety of photorealistic architectural rendering styles.

  • 르네상스 시대의 필리포 브뤼넬레치, 19세기의 쟝 니꼴라 루이 뒤랑, 근대 건축의 꾸르뷔지에, 귀세프 테라니, 밀르벤 데르호흐, 그리고 현대건축의 장 누벨과 같은 5명의 건축가의 예를 통해, 건축에서 늘 되풀이되어 나타나는 기하학적 형체로서의 이 격자무늬는 자신의 다면성을 보여준다. 합리적인 면은 그대로 간직한 채, 격자무늬는 순서대로, 균형잡힌 비율의 선, 축에 관한 구성체계, 조립식 건축의 구조, 합리주의의 상징, 건물의 배치와 크기를 결정하는 반복적인 조직망, 삼차원 공간에서의 프랙탈한 이미지로서 나타난다.

  • In the study of Art History and Archaeology, the paintings, sculptures, relief, and applied arts provide a vivid description of religious and historical events and everyday life. Through these descriptions it is possible to gain a greater understanding of things such as the customs, culture, and architectural styles of that period. However, if Art History and Archaeological images are very old, distorted or underexposed, it is difficult to analyze them. Using Levels and Curves is one way to tonally correct professional photographs. It is an effective method for tonal correction because of the exact numeric values which are calculated and displayed as the image is adjusted. In this paper, the usefulness of this method for correcting a distorted archaeological image was examined.

  • This study focused on the transition from modularity of a mechanical construction system to the seriality in a digital production system in architecture and arguing how digital design process affects the design of surface in the contemporary architecture and development of digital technology actively intermediate surface of architecture and expressive characteristics of media on surface. The analysis of two exhibition facilities of Herzog & de Meuron expose process of fabrication in the surface design and makes possible to implementation of the concept of code to seriality which shows images employed to reveal immediate representation of the perceptual communication with humans and architecture through the role and significance of digital design techniques.

  • The Purpose of this study is to develop color palettes for the campus environment to find an identity of various Universities in Korea. This research is focused on the Shin-chon campus of Yonsei University because it has a long history and a mixture of old and new modern buildings in the campus. It takes three steps to proceed this study. Firstly, it is needed to find the images and history of Yonsei University from the documents. In the second place, the colors should be collected from the building materials, four seasons in campus, buildings in campus. At this point, color measurement devices, NCS color system, digital camera and other appropriate devices were used for the study. The third step shows the results of the analysis and development of color palettes based on the analyzed materials from second step. This research suggests three major color groups. The typical main colors of the campus building are YR/anchromatic with middle level of value and chroma from the analysis. The sub-colors are similar to the main colors with pale/light grayish/dull/deep tone. The color palettes out of the results could be used as a standard for campus color scheme in the future to build an identity of Yonsei University.

Development of Augmented Reality Tool for Architectural Design (건축설계 검증을 위한 증강현실 설계지원도구 개발)

  • In this study we have proposed the prototype of design support device for architectural design assessment using the building information modeling(BIM) data and the augmented reality(AR) technology. The proposed system consists of novel hardware composition with the transparent display, the mock-up model and the digital architectural model in the new shape of frame. The removal of background and the correction of viewer point in the capture video are proposed in order to use the transparent display in AR application. The BIM data formats are reviewed to be converted for using in AR application. Also the proposed system can be expanded to multi-user collaboration system from two user system through the suggested hardware and software compositions. The results of this study will be applied to use the mock-up model and digital architectural model in order to carry out the design assessment process efficiently and economically in the architectural design field.

  • 과거부터 사람들은 달을 인지해왔으며, 인류는 지속적으로 달을 관찰하고 탐구를 멈추지 않았다. 지역문화와 민족문화가 다르기 때문에 달의 이미지에 관한 다른 이해를 바탕으로 미술, 건축, 종교 등에 반영되어 왔다. 영화기술의 발전과 더불어 다양한 영상콘텐츠에도 달이 등장해왔다. 하지만 달에 대한 상징성 연구가 미흡하여 영상콘텐츠에서의 달 이미지 활용에 어려움이 있어왔다. 때문에 본 연구를 통해 영상콘텐츠에서 표현된 달 이미지를 연구하여 달의 의미를 분석하고 표현 방법에 대한 전문성을 높이고자 한다. 연구방법은 첫째, 지역 및 문화별 달의 의미를 제시한다. 둘째, 달과 여성의 이미지 사이의 관계를 이론적 배경으로 제시한다. 셋째, 달의 여성상징적 의미에 관한 영상콘텐츠 작품 사례를 분석하였다. 연구결과 동서양 신화에 등장하는 달의 여성상징은 영상콘텐츠에서 등장인물의 이름과 디자인의 활용 등이 주를 이루었다. 본 연구를 통해 달에 대한 상징에 대한 동서양의 특징을 도출하고, 향후 영상콘텐츠 작품 창작에 활용되기를 기대한다.

  • The Propose of this research was to consider how the New Media Architecture was applied to contemporary architecture according to the analysis of the design method process of Toyo Ito. Sendai Mediatheque by Toyo Ito stands as one of the most symbolic statement In New Media architecture. The four principal architectural elements of the Mediatheque are the digital image, the continuous space, the tube, and the skin facade. The digital image express forms of communication, person-to-person and person-to-thing, and they vary according to the media utilized on each level. The three skin elements of the Mediatheque are a double skin of MPG, skin of louvers, skin of fine-floor decking. The tubes act as columns while enveloping light, air, water, electricity the passage of people, as well as the means of transferring material. The thirteen tubes of different sizes prevent the erection of wall and suggest places instead of rooms. Instead of being limited to certain specified actions in clearly defined rooms, people are free to choose places for their actions in the continuous space.

  • 스케치를 거쳐 생성되는 디지털 자료로 건축도면이나 제품 디자인시안 등은 수요가 많음에도 불구하고 디지털 도면 자동생성에 대한 영상처리는 아직 연구되지 않고 있다. 현행 필기인식에 대한 영상처리 연구는 주로 글자나 숫자에 국한되어 있어 본 연구에서는 선으로 이루어진 필기를 인식하여 도면이라는 이진영상의 특징을 이용해 특징점을 도출하고 디지털 도면을 생성하는 영상처리를 제안한다. 먼저 입력받은 아날로그 스캔이미지를 메디안블러링과 OSTU임계처리로 노이즈가 없는 이진영상으로 변환한 후 해리스코너검출기를 이용하여 특징점을 검출하고 좌표를 추출하고, 좌표값을 활용해 외곽선과 내부윤곽선까지 구현하여 디지털도면을 양산한다.

  • The purpose of luminance measurement in lighting design of urban scale is to prevent light trespass and light pollution, caused by over-bright. Specially, the illumination of road, tunnel and sports complex as urban infrastructure is measured by international standard for illuminance and luminance. It has been used the spot luminance meter and the image photometer to define the characteristics of qualitative and quantitative in exterior lighting. This study introduced the concept of HDR Image, procedure of HDR Image creation and analysis. Applications of HDR Image, particularly within the apartment building exterior lighting design analysis, have been demonstrated. The procedure proposed in this study is a affordable method that is useful for the assessment of luminance distribution in the scene with electric light. It also provides a measurement capability with the high resolution luminance data within a large field of view efficiently and quickly, which is not possible to achieve with a luminance meter.
